2 Introduction Thank you for purchasing this unit. This Owner’s Manual explains the basic operation of this unit. DVD discs must be labeled for ALL regions, Region 1 (U.S.A model) or Region 4 (Australia model) in order to play on this Player. You cannot play Discs that are labeled for other regions.
3 English Functional Overview * Press button for about two seconds. Front Panel STANDBY/ON – turns on this unit or sets it to the standby mode Disc tray – load up to 5 discs on the disc tray / OPE.
4 Functional Overview Caution: Do not touch the inner pins of the jacks on the rear panel. Electrostatic discharge may cause permanent damage to the unit.

6 Preparation Never make or change connections with the power switched on. • Depending on the equipment you wish to connect, there are various ways you could connect this unit. Possible connections are shown in the following drawings. • Please refer to the manuals of other equipment as necessary to make the best connections.
7 English Preparation MIXED 2CH jacks Use audio/video cable supplied with this player to connect the L (left) and R (right) jacks to corresponding input jacks of your audio equipment such as Stereo amplifier. You can connect a subwoofer to the SUBWOOFER jack.
8 Getting Started 1 Open the battery compartment. 2 Insert two batteries type R06 or AA, following the indications (+ –) inside the compartment. 3 Close the cover. Using the remote control Handling the remote control • Do not spill water or other liquids on the remote control.
9 English Getting Started 4 Press 34 to highlight one of the options below: PAL Select this if the connected TV is PAL system. It will change the video signal of a NTSC disc and output in PAL format. NTSC Select this if the connected TV is NTSC system.
10 Getting Started Setting the Audio, Subtitle and Disc menu language 1 Press STOP 9 twice, then press SETUP . 2 Press 2 repeatedly to select {PREFERENCE PAGE}.
11 English Getting Started {FRONT SPEAKER, CENTER SPEAKER, SURROUND SP} OFF (only for CENTER and SURROUND) When no speaker is connected. LARGE When connected speakers can produce low frequency signals below 120 Hz. SMALL When connected speakers cannot produce low frequency signals below 120 Hz.
12 Disc Operations IMPORTANT! – If the inhibit icon ( or X) appears on the TV screen when a button is pressed, it means the function is not available on the current disc or at the current time. – Depending on the DVD or VIDEO CD, some operations may be different or restricted.
13 English Disc Operations Repeat Repeat chapter/title/disc (DVD) Each time you press REPEAT , the front display changes as follows; CHAPTER*: repeat the current chapter TITLE: repeat the current titl.
14 Disc Operations Using the Disc Menu Depending on the disc, a menu may appear on the TV screen once you load in the disc. To select a playback feature or item • Use 1 234 or numeric keypad (0-9) on the remote, then press ENTER/OK to start playback.
15 English Disc Operations Time Search (DVD/VCD) 1 Press 34 to select {TT TIME} or {CH TIME} (DVD) or {TRACK TIME} or {DISC TIME} (VCD). ➜ {TT TIME} refers to the total time of the current title, and the {CH TIME} refers to the total time of the current chapter.
16 Disc Operations Changing pages Some DVD-Audio discs contain information pages that can include photo galleries, artist biographies, lyrics, etc. Every time you press the PAGE button on the remote control, the page is turned to the next. When you change pages, the page number appears in the status window.
17 English Disc Operations Playing a disc 1 Load a disc. Playback starts automatically. ➜ The TV screen will display the current playing status and current playing track list in the area. 2 Playback will stop at the end of the disc. 3 To stop playback, press STOP 9 .
18 Disc Operations 3 Press ENTER/OK to open one option. Note: – You can select {TRACK INTERVAL} only during playback, with PBC Off. TRACK DIGEST This function will minimize the picture of every track in order to display every six of these tracks on the screen to help you know the content of every track on the disc.
19 English Disc Operations Selecting a folder and track/file 1 Press 34 to select the folder and press ENTER/OK to open the folder. 2 Press 34 to select a track/file. 3 Press ENTER/OK to confirm. ➜ Playback will start from the selected file to the end of the folder.
20 Disc Operations Zoom picture 1 During playback, press ZOOM repeatedly to display the picture with different scales. 2 Use 1 234 to view the zoomed picture. Playback with multi-angles • During playback, press 1 234 to rotate the picture on the TV screen.
21 English Setup Menu The setup is carried out via the TV, enabling you to customize the DVD Player to suit your particular requirements. 1 Press SETUP . 2 Press 1 2 to select ‘General Setup’ icon. 3 Press ENTER/OK to confirm. Selecting DVD-Audio/Video mode 1 In ‘GENERAL SETUP PAGE’, press 34 to highlight {DVD-AUDIO}, then press 2 .
22 Setup Menu To input your favorite tracks/chapter 3 Use the numeric keypad (0-9) to enter a valid track/chapter number. 4 Use 1 234 to move the cursor to the next position.
23 English Setup Menu OSD Language This menu contains various language options for display language on the screen. For details, see page 9. Screen Saver This function is used to turn the screen saver on or off. 1 In ‘GENERAL SETUP PAGE’, press 34 to highlight {SCREEN SAVER}, then press 2 .

25 English Setup Menu 96kHz Playback a disc recorded at the sampling rate of 96kHz. If the 96kHz disc is copy protected, the digital output will be muted to comply with the standards. Speaker Setup This menu contains setup options for your audio output which makes the speaker setup system reproduce high quality surround sound.
26 Setup Menu Setting the TV Display Set the aspect ratio of the DVD Player according to the TV you have connected. The format you select must be available on the disc. If it is not, the setting for TV display will not affect the picture during playback.
27 English Setup Menu Picture Setting This DVD Player provides three predefined sets of picture color settings and one personal setting which you can define yourself. 1 In ‘VIDEO SETUP PAGE’, press 34 to highlight {PICTURE SETTING}, then press 2 .
28 Setup Menu 1 In ‘VIDEO SETUP PAGE’, press 34 to highlight {CLOSED CAPTION}, then press 2 . ON To enable Closed Caption function. OFF To disable Closed Caption function. 2 Press 34 to select a setting, then press ENTER/OK to confirm your selection.
29 English Setup Menu PBC (Playback Control) You can set the PBC to ON or OFF. This feature is available only on Video CD 2.0 with playback control (PBC) feature. For details, see page 17. MP3/JPEG Menu MP3/JPEG Navigator can be set only if the disc is recorded with menu.

32 Troubleshooting Refer to the chart below when this unit does not function properly. If the problem you are experiencing is not listed below or if the instruction below does not help, set this unit to the standby mode, disconnect the power cord, and contact the nearest authorized YAMAHA dealer or service center.
33 English Troubleshooting Player does not respond to some operating commands during playback. – Operations may not be permitted by the disc. Refer to the instructions of the disc jacket. DVD Player cannot read CDs/ DVDs – Use a commonly available cleaning CD/DVD to clean the lens before sending the DVD Player for repair.
