16 Connecting the po wer cor d After completing all connections, connect the AC po wer cord to an AC pow er outlet Note: When the player is in the “ST ANDBY” mode, it is still consuming some power . If you wish to disconnect your player completely from the power , press the PO WER button.
17 General explanation About this manual This manual giv es the basic instructions for operating this D VD pla yer . Some D VDs require specific operation or allo w only limited operation during pla yback. In these cases, the play er may not r espond to all operating commands.
18 T urning On the po wer 1 Switch on the TV and select the video input channel for y our D VD-Video pla yer . 2 Pr ess PO WER button. Initial Setup General In ‘Initial Setup’ you ma y hav e to set your pr efer ences for some of the pla yer’ s featur es.
19 Countr y Select y our countr y . This also is used as input for the ‘Par ental Control’ featur e (see ‘Access Control’). Note: All these items may have to be set dur ing ‘Initial Setup’. After that, they can always be changed in the P er sonal Pref erences Menu.
20 Sound - Digital output Factor y setting: ALL. This means that both coaxial and optical outputs ar e switched on. If you ar e not connecting equipment with a digital input, change the setting to OFF . If y our equipment doesn't include a digital multi-channel decoder , set the digital output to PCM only .

22 Access contr ol; P arental contr ol (D VD-Video only) Movies on D VDs may contain scenes not suitable f or children. Ther efore, disc ma y contain ‘Parental Contr ol’ information which applies to the complete disc or to certain scenes on the disc .
23 Changing the 4-digit code 1 When disc pla yback is stopped, select Access Control in the featur es menu using the w / v k eys. 2 Enter the old code. 3 Mov e to Change Code using the w key . 4 Press the u key . 5 Enter the new 4-digit code. 6 Enter the code a second time and reconfirm b y pressing OK.
24 Loading discs 1 Pr ess OPEN/CLOSE on the front of the pla yer . The disc tra y opens. 2 Load your chosen disc in the tra y , label side up (also when a double sided D VD is inser ted). Mak e sure it is sitting pr operly in the correct r ecess. 3 Pr ess OPEN/CLOSE , to close the tra y .
25 Pla ying a Video CD Pla ying a disc - After inser ting the disc and closing the tra y , pla yback star ts automatically and the status window and the pla yer displa y show the type of disc loaded, as well as inf ormation about the disc’ s contents and pla ying time .
26 Still Picture and F rame-by-frame pla yback ● Select e (pictur e by pictur e) in the menu bar . ● Use the w k ey to enter the pictur e by pictur e menu. ➤ The pla yer will now go into P AUSE mode. ● Use the cursor k eys t u to select the pr evious or next pictur e frame.
27 ● T o exit the sequence, press REPEA T A-B . Note: This function is not available with video CD’ s ver sion 2.0 when PBC under P er sonal Preferences is set to ON. Shuffle D VD-Video discs This shuffles the pla ying order of chapters within a title, if the title has more than one.
28 FTS (Fa vorite T rack Selection) -Video - The FTS-Video function allows you to store y our fa vorite titles and chapters (D VD) and fa vorite tracks and index es (VCD) for a particular disc in the pla yer memor y . - Each FTS program can contain 20 items (titles, chapters).
29 Special D VD featur es Checking the contents of D VD-Video discs: Menus For titles and cha pters, selection menus ma y be included on the disc . The D VD’ s menu feature allows y ou to make selections fr om these menus. Press the appr opriate numerical k ey; or use the w , v , u , t keys to highlight y our selection, then press OK .
30 Special VCD-F eatures Pla yback Control (PBC) ● Load a Video CD with PBC and press 2 . ● Go thr ough the menu with the k eys indicated on the TV screen until your chosen passage starts to pla y . If a PBC menu consists of a list of titles, you can select a title directly .
31 Shuffle ● Press SHUFFLE during pla y . ➤ The order of the tracks is changed. ● T o return to normal pla y , press SHUFFLE again. Repeat track/disc ● T o repeat the track curr ently pla ying , press REPEA T . ➤ REPEA T TRA CK appears on the displa y .
32 FTS (F a vorite T rack Selection) Pro gram - FTS Pr ogram allows you to stor e your fa vorite tracks for a particular disc in the pla yer memor y . - Each FTS Program can contain 20 tracks. Storing an FTS Pr ogram 1 Load a disc and stop pla yback. 2 Use w to go to the list of a vailable tracks.
33 Symptom Remedy No po wer Mak e sure the mains cor d (A C) is pr operly connected. Check if there is po wer at the AC outlet b y plugging in another appliance. No picture Check if the TV is switched on. Check the video connection. Distor ted pictur e Check the disc for fingerprints and clean with a soft cloth, wiping from center to edge.
34 Cleaning discs Some pr oblems occur because the disc inside the pla yer is dirty . T o a void these pr oblems clean your discs regularl y , in the following wa y: ● When a disc becomes dirty , clean it with a cleaning cloth. Wipe the disc fr om the center out.
