2 Important Safety Information Misusing or incorrectly connecting the XPower inverter may damage the equipment or create hazardous conditions for users. Read the following safety instructions an d pa y special attention to all Caution and W arning st atements in the guide.
WA R NI N G The XPower inverter housing may become uncomfortably warm, reaching 140° F (60° C) under extended high power operat ion. During operation, keep it away from ma teria ls that m ay be af fected by high temperatures.
W ARNING: Shock hazar d Use caution when inserting an AC plug into the three-prong AC outlet. The prongs of an AC plug can become bent from misuse. If an AC plug is improperly inserted into the AC outlet, a bent prong can slip outside the inve rter and become a shock hazard.
CAUTION: Output non-sinusoidal Some char gers for small nicke l-cadmium batteries can be damaged if conn ected to t he XPower inverter. Do not use the i nverter with the following appliances: • Sm.
Additional Safety Guidelines • Do not insert foreign objects in the XPower inverter outlets or ot her open ings. • Never connect the invert er to power util ity AC distribution wiring. • Do not use the XPower in verter in temperatures over 100° F (40° C).
3 Safety F eatures These advanced safety features are built into the XPower inverter: • Electronic overload pr otection with automatic shutdown • User-replaceable 10 A fus e • Low battery volt.

5 Using the Inverter Through its AC outlet, the XPower inverter is capable of continuously powering most 12 0 V AC pro ducts that use 100 W or less.
4. Plug the device you want to operate into the XPower inverter. See “I nverter Operation” on page 13. 5. When the power inverter is not in use, unplu g it from the 12 V outlet to prevent slight discharge of the battery . Using the DC Cable wi th Airplane P ower Plug 1.
Airline Compatibility T able 1 provides a list of airlines, ai rcraft, and passenger classes that have DC power sockets compatible with t he XPow er Pocket Inverter 100.
6 Inverter Oper ation 1. When properly connected to a 12 V outl et, the light will glow blue , ind icating the inverter is ready . 2. Plug the product(s) you want to operate into the AC outlet or USB port and switch them on (if necessary). Operating Guidelines • As the battery is used, voltage begins to fall.
• If an AC product rated higher than 100 W is plugged into the XPower inv erter, the inverter will shut down. The red fault light comes on. • If the XPower inverter exceeds a safe operating temperature, due to insufficient ventilation or a high-temperature environ ment, it automatically shuts down.
Battery Operating Time Operating time will vary dependin g on the charge level of the battery , it s capaci ty and th e power level drawn by the particular AC load, USB load, or combination of both. W ith a typical vehicle battery and a 80 W load, an operating time of 4 to 5 hours or more can be expected.
Buzzing sound in audio systems and radios Some inexpensive stereo systems and AM-FM radios have inadequate internal power supply filtering and “buzz” slightly when powered by the XPower inverter. Generally , the onl y solution is an audio product with a higher quality fil ter .
7 T roubleshooting PROBLEM: AC product will not operate , no in verter lights are ON . PROBLEM: Measured inverte r output is too low . P ossible cause Remedy Battery is defective. Chec k battery and replace if required. Loose connections. C heck connections.
PROBLEM: AC product will not operate , red F AUL T light ON. P ossible cause Remedy AC product(s) connected are rated at more tha n the inverter’s continuous power rating; overload shutdown has occurred. Use a product with a power rating less than the inverter’ s continuous power rating.
Replacing the Fuse The XPower inverter has a replaceable 10 A fuse. Remove the blown fuse from the back of the unit and replace it with a Littelfuse Mini ® fuse, Littelfuse catalog number 297 010. CUST OMER SERVICE HO TL INE: 1-800-394-0440 The inverter has overheated due to poor ventilation and has shut down.
