1 Introduction Thank you for purchasing t he Xant rex 150 Inverter. The 150 Inver ter is part of a fami ly of adv anced high- performance power inverter s from Xantrex, the leader in high frequency in verter des ign.
2 Important Safety Information If the 150 Inverter is connected or us ed incorrectly , hazardous cond iti ons may be created. Read and save this safety information, and pay special atten tio n to all W arning and Caution s tatements in the guide and on the inv erter itself.
Caution! Risk of damage to equip ment. The 150 Inverter is designed to be d i rectly connected to s t andard electrical and electronic equipment in the manner described in this guide. Do not co nnect it to househ o ld or R V AC distribu t ion wi ring.
Caution! Risk of d amage to rechargeable applian ces. The output of the 150 Inverter is non-sinuso idal. Certain battery char gers can be damaged if they are connected to the 150 Inverter.
3 Xantrex 150 Inverter Features This section des cribes the main features of the 150 Inverter. Figure 1 s hows the inverter’ s AC panel. Figure 1 AC Panel on the 150 Inver ter (European Ou tlet) ① AC Outlet An AC outlet is located on one end of the 150 Inver ter.
③ Power Light The green PWR light is on all the time when the On/Standby switch is on. ④ Fault Li ght The red light indicates that the inverter has s hut do w n because of low or high battery voltage, AC overload, or excessively high temper at ures.
4 Connecting the 150 Inverter Choosing a Location For best perf ormance, choose a location that is : • Dry Do not expose the inverter to water drip or spray . • Cool Operate the inverter in a mbient temperatures between 0° C and 40° C (32° F and 100° F ).
5 Operating the 150 Inverter Oper ating Stat uses This section describes normal operation as well as problems that coul d occur w h en you use the invert er .
• AC Overload Shutdown If you connec t an AC l oad that is rate d higher than 150 w atts or 0.65 amps or that draws excessive s u rge power , the 150 Inverter shuts down . The PWR light stays on , and the light comes on to indicate th at the inv erter is overloaded.
Interferenc e With Electronic Equipment Most AC loads op erate with the 150 Inverter as they would with household AC power with the following exceptions. Buzzing Sou nd Some inexpensive stereo systems and “boom boxes” have inadequ ate internal power supply filtering and buzz slightly when powered by the 150 Inver ter.
6 Battery Operating T ime The operati ng time of the 150 Inverter depends on the charg e level of the battery , the bat tery capacity , and the amount of p ower drawn by the part icular A C load being used. W ith a typical vehicle ba t tery and a 15 0 watt AC load (like a small TV), y ou can expect two to three hours o f operating time.
7 T roubl eshooting This sectio n describes problems you co uld encounter as well as possible cau ses and various remed ies. The AC load will not opera te; the light is on. Sympt om An AC load is plu gged in or turned on, oper ates for on e to t e n secon ds, an d then sh uts do w n.
Sympt om The AC load run s for more than one min ute, the alarm sounds , and the lig ht comes on. The inverter is warm or hot to touch. The AC load will not operate; no inverter lights are on. Sympt om The cigarette lighter works in the lighter socket, but the inverter does not.
Measured inver ter output voltage is too low . Sympt om The AC voltmeter reading is 5 to 15 volts too low . Battery operating time is less than expe cted. Sympt om The inver ter runs for a while, and then the light comes on. The inverter is cool or warm to tou ch.
