ii T ABLE OF CONTENTS Product Overview .................................................................... 1 Module Setup .......................................................................... 2 Jumper Settings ...................................
Product Overview The Vista Electronics LM104-P50 module provides connectivity between PC/104-based sy stems and the Echelon Local Operating Network (L ON). The module features full compliance with Echelon’s L onMark Inte roperability Guidelines, grea tly simplifying hardware a nd software integration into sy stems built around LonWorks.
Module Setup IMPORTANT NOTE! The LM104-P50 module gets all of its electrical power through the PC/104 bus connector. The module requires +5Vdc, ±10% at 420mA. Because it was designed specifically f or the PC/104 bus, the m odule does not support any exte rnal power supply, nor is it designed to run at any other supply voltage.
Jumper Settings There are five jumper locat ions, which vary slig htly depending on which network interface option is selected. Their functions are as fol lows: JP1 SERVICE Momentarily shorting this jumper causes the Neuron c hip to broadcast its Neur on I D across the network.
JP5 IRQ SELECT This jumper selects the I RQ (Interrupt Request) level used by the LM104-P50 and the interrupt- driven driver ( LM104INT.SYS ): 1 I RQ15 2 I RQ12 3 I RQ11 4 I RQ10 5 I RQ5 6 I RQ3 Defaul t: IRQ5 Note that I RQ10, IRQ11, I RQ12 and IRQ15 are only available on 16-bit sy stems (80286-class or higher microprocessors).
Softw are Driver Installation The LM104-P50 module includes two MS-DOS software drivers: one that is interrupt driven ( LM104INT.SYS ) and one that use s polling ( LM104POL.SYS ). The inte rrupt driver is used in most cases. First, copy the files on the distribution diskette to a drive and directory on the host sy stem.
For example, adding the following line to the CONFIG.SYS file: DEVICE=C:LONLM104INT.SYS /D1 /P1 /Q5 installs the interrupt-driven driver using base I /O address &h1E0 and IRQ5. Adding the following line to the CONFIG.SYS file: DEVICE=C:LONLM104POL.
Cable Grounding and T ermination To maintain data tr ansmission performa nce, network c abling must be termina ted cor rectly . Termination requirements vary depending on the type of cable used for network connections – shielded or unshielded twisted pair - and the ty pe of transceiver used.
The RS-485 standard further specifies that network cabling have a characteristic impedance of approximately 120 W . The use of coaxial or twinaxial ca ble is not recommende d.
Option 5 – Power line carrier transceivers These modules are designed to be used with couplers that interface between the node and the power line. As such, the PL T-22 transceiver and the power line coupler handle any termination issues. Any standard 50 W BNC cable may be used to connect the L M105-P50 to its line coupler.
Troubleshooting • Make sure that the sy stem has power, and make sure that all voltag es are within specification. The Neuron chip does not tolerate under- or over-voltage conditions very gracefully .
