This manual is intended to provide: • basic knowledge of the fun ctions and features of the DX-80 Cordless phone user interface. • step-by-step procedures for processing calls and controlling individual extension settings.

Overvie w 16 Comdial Ma y ‘05 1.2 Using the Displa y Y our DX-80 Cordless phone inc ludes a three-line LCD. • The first line of the display co ntains time and date information. • The second line of the display contains the ph one number of the party to whom you are speaking.
DX-80 Cordless User Ma y ‘05 Comdial 17 1.3 Using a Headset T o use a headset on the DX-80 Cordless phone, simply plug the headset into the headset j ack on the left side of the handset; the phone automatically switches to headset m ode. T o leave the headset mode and return function to the hand set, unplug the headset from the headset jack.
Overvie w 18 Comdial Ma y ‘05 1.5 Registering Y our Phone Registration programming allows you to register the handset to the base unit after it has been insta lled by your system installer . 1. Power ON the base unit and ente r the registration mode on the base unit.

Note : Up to two line cor ds can be used to connect two digital station ports fr om the KSU to the two jacks on the base.
DX-80 Cordless User Ma y ‘05 Comdial 21 1.5.2 DE-REGISTRATION Whether you want to de-register both hands ets or remove one handset only , you can de-register the handsets from the base unit. However , you must move the handset unit close to the base to receive the de- registration command from base un it.

If the de-registration is successful, the LCD displays the fol- lowing. If the de-registration fails afte r about 20-30 seconds, the LC D displays.

After using e ither method, you must remove the power from the base and re-power on the base. • Using the handset only: • If the base cannot link to th e handset, the handset still de- registers.
Overvie w 24 Comdial Ma y ‘05 1.6 Status Indicators The cordless handset provides in formation about the following sta- tuses. • Low Battery • Out of Range • No Link to Base • Ring/V ibrator • Sleep Mode • Key Lock Mode • Power On/Off • No Link to KSU 1.
DX-80 Cordless User Ma y ‘05 Comdial 25 1.6.2 OUT OF RANGE STATUS If the handset is in the talk mode and the user travels too far from the base, the handset displays O UT OF RANGE and generates a warning beep every 5 seconds. The user must move closer to the base, or the call will be dropped within 30 seconds.
Overvie w 26 Comdial Ma y ‘05 1.6.4 RING AND VIBRATOR STATUS If you set the status to Ring mode only , the phone displays the ring icon only on the LCD. If you set the status to V ibrator mode only , the phone displays the vibrator icon onl y on the LCD.

The LCD responds by displaying the firs t configurable item on the l ist. 2. Press F1 (Down) or F2 (Up) button to cycle through the menu choices.

DX-80 Cordless User Ma y ‘05 Comdial 37 2.2 Function K e y Pr ogramming Y ou can use the Func key on your DX-80 Cordless phone to control many of the DX-80 features. 2.2.1 SETTING THE ALARM CLOCK FEATURE Y ou may activate your own private alarm on your teleph one to remind you of special appointments , events, etc.

(T o use this feature, your System Administrator must enable it in database administration.) Y ou can set forward conditions for each call forward type: • Intercom (internal) calls only .

When you are finished, press Ta l k twice to exit. 2.2.7 CLEARING CUST OM PHONE SETTINGS AND REVERTING TO DEFAULT SETTINGS Y ou can clear all active modes at your extension (Call Forward, Do Not Disturb, etc.
Progra mming Y our Phone 52 Comdial Ma y ‘05 2.2.9 DISTINCTIVE RINGING Y ou may choose one of eight distinctive ring tones for your ex tension to help identify when yo ur extension is ringing. This feature can be especially helpful in open office areas where several phones may ring simulatneously .

Y ou can store any system feature code on any available Feature Button for one-button o peration. Certain programmed feature buttons light when activated (DND, Call Forward, DSS/BLF , etc.

Press the Ta l k button twice to exit Fe ature/Directory Number Lookup. 2.2.14 RESETTI NG FLEXIB LE FEATURE BUTTONS TO DEFAULT Y ou can use this feature to reset a ll Flexible Feature buttons to their factory settings.
DX-80 Cordless User Ma y ‘05 Comdial 59 2.2.15 HIDDEN CODES The Hidden Code feature allows you to store a four -digit code so you can dial it by pressing only one butto n. (T o operate, the Hidden Code must be stored on a Flexible Featur e button.) This feature is typically used to store a password for the voice mail mailbox.
Progra mming Y our Phone 60 Comdial Ma y ‘05 4. Press the four-digit code you want to store (for example, Func + 6 + 1 ). 5. Press save . 6. Press Ta l k to exit Flexible Feature Button Programming. 2.2.16 HOT KE YS Hot Key is the automatic operation of dial pad keys while the tele- phone is idle.
DX-80 Cordless User Ma y ‘05 Comdial 61 2.2.17 HOTLINE SPEED DIALING Hotline allows you to access an ex tension or Speed Dial Directory number simply by lifting the handse t. This feature is especially useful for elevator phones and applications that dictate a specific des- tination for system extensions.
Progra mming Y our Phone 62 Comdial Ma y ‘05 2. Enter the speed dial directory number or extension number to which you want to connect this extension when the handset is lifted. Then press save . The display responds as follows. 3. Select if this destination is to be immediate or delay ed.

In some cases you ma y want to di al the specific outside line (lines 740 - 756) or outside l ine group (9, 80 0-806), but in most cases, you can simply press the outside line button.
Making Calls 70 Comdial Ma y ‘05 3.4 Using Call Bac k 3.4.1 CALL BAC K – CO LINE This feature allows you to queue a busy outside line and reserve that outside line for use when it becomes available. This feature elimi- nates the need for you to observe th e line status continually for avail- ability .

Making Calls 74 Comdial Ma y ‘05 3.7 Last Number Redial The Last Number Redial (LNR) feat ure automatically dials the last number dialed from your telep hone; LNR retains 16 digits for each extension.

DX-80 Cordless User Ma y ‘05 Comdial 79 4. ANS WERING CALLS 4.1 Ans wering Calls Y ou can answer inc oming calls on your cordless phone by pressing either the Ta l k button or the Speaker button. If you press the Speaker button, the handset operates in ha nds-free mode.

Press dial to dial a logged call. 4.4 Pic king Up Calls in y our Group Y ou may a nswer calls ringing at an other extension using the Call Pick Up Group feature. PR OCESSING CALLS 5.1 Placing Calls on Hold 5.1.1 SYSTEM HOLD Y ou may plac e any outside line on System H old by pressing the Hold button. 5.1.2 HOLD – EXCLUSIVE By using the Function button and th e hold button together , you can place an outsid e call on privat e/ex clusive hold.

88 Comdial Ma y ‘05 Proces sing Calls 5.3 P arking Calls The Call Park / Call Park Answer feat ures allow you to “park” a call at any extension. It is also used to re trieve a parked call from any extension. Y o u park and retrieve calls by dialing the Call Park code ( Func + 7 + 3 ) followed by the extension number .
DX-80 Cordless User Ma y ‘05 Comdial 89 5.4 P aging Y ou can make a public announcement to all extension users or to a portion of users. The DX-80 system provides both all-call (heard by all users) and page zone (he ard by a specific group of users) pa ging that you access by dialing special codes.
