4 Intr oduction The Stab ility Analysis Tool (SAT) is a Microsof t Excel-ba sed program th at provi des a Bod e plot o f the voltag e loo p gain of a DC-D C conv erter for a v ariety of external l oads. From this plo t, infor matio n such as cross over freq uency and gain an d phase marg ins can b e obtained .
5 Installa tion and Usage You sh ould f irst r ead an d accept the terms o f the S AT usag e. Download the file SAT_v1.3.xls from the Tyco Electron ics Power Systems web si te (gi ven bel ow) to a di rector y on y our c omputer . Downl oad one or more mo dule data file(s) to the sam e director y.
6 Using SA T W he n you start SA T, you w ill see the w indow shown i n Figur e 1. 2 Fig. 1. SAT Introd uction and Mod ule Select ion page.

8 If you w ant to choose a di fferent module dat a fil e, you can al way s go back to the Module Selection sheet t o change it. The Configuration Menu lists fiv e choic es for repr esenti ng the lo ad circui t topo logy.
9 C li c k to C alc u late St abi lit y model of the c apaci tor b ank. The load is modeled by the resista nce R L . The secon d configu rati on is similar to the firs t one except tha t the voltage sense location is mov ed from the output pi ns of the module to t he load.
1 0 SAT dr aws the B ode plot of t he vol tage lo op gain on t he rig ht hal f of the page as shown in Fig ure 5. The phas e margin, w hich is a measure of sta bility, and t he gain crossover frequency , whic h is a measure of fast transi ent response, ar e also calcu lated and prese nted be low th e Bod e plot.

1 3 cust omer app lication. SAT can be used to assess the common-mode stability characteristics of a parallel ed conv erter syste m by analyzing an equiv alent single-m odule sy stem. The single- module equi vale nt is obtaine d by scaling the load by the number of parallel ed modules .
1 4 Limitations of SA T Alth ough S AT is a p owerfu l too l, plea se ke ep in mind the followin g : 1. The lo op gain Bod e plo t and ph ase mar gin pre dicted by SA T are vali d w hen the module is op erating i n continu ous conducti on mode (CCM).
