7 INT RODUCTION T his m anual descr ibes how to use the EDACS /ProVoice LPE-200 Portable Radio. T he LPE-200 is a sy nthesized, m icropr ocess or- based, high perf orm ance por table FM radio .

14 CLEA R/ MO N I TO R B UTTO N Serves s everal pur poses depending on the oper ating m ode. In trunk ed m ode, the CLEAR/MONIT O R button exits the cur rent operation and remove s a ll d isp lay s asso cia ted with it. The radio and dis play then return to the group rec eive state.
15 KEYPA D T he k ey pad lay out has a total of 6 or 15 k ey s. T he key s have s pecial f unctions and are labeled as suc h using a s y m bol or abbr eviated word des cribing its pr im ary f unction. Num eric entr y is a s econdar y func tion of the k ey s.

20 DISPLA Y T he radio dis play is m ade up of 3 lines (Figur e 6). Lines 1 and 2 contain eight alphanum er ic c harac ter block s and are us ed prim arily to display sy s tem and group nam es. Line 1 also dis play s r adio s tatus m es sages . The 3rd line is us ed prim arily to display radio s tatus ic ons.
21 In trunk ed m ode: ON - indicates the radio is trans m itting or r eceiving a c all on the work ing channel. FLASHING - indicates a c all has been queued. In conventional m ode: ON – indicates a call is being rec eived. ON - indicates the radio is trans m itting.
22 Auto Power m ode autom atic ally adj usts radio output power to optim ize battery lif e. Indicates battery voltage is getting low. Note: W hen or in c onjunc tion with LOW BA TT m ess age the radio will no longer trans m it. T he radio will autom atic ally power down s oon after this c ondition exis ts.
23 On - indicates selec ted group or channel is priority -one s can. On - indica tor f or c onventional c hannel is enabled with Channel Guard. FLASHING - indicates Channel G uard is tem porarily dis abled. M essages During radio oper ation, various r adio s tatus m es sages c an be display ed.
24 Message Name Description Channel Scan Indicates the control channel is lost and the radio has entered the C ontrol Channel Scan mode to search for the control channel. (Usually out of range indication.) WA SCAN W ide Area Scan - Tr unked mode only.
25 Message Name Description radio w ill automatically shutdow n. RXEMER Rec ei ve Emergency - Tr unked mode only. Indicates an emergency call is being received. This message w ill be flashing on line tw o. TXEMER Transmit Emergency - Tr unked mode only.
26 Error M essages If either of the f ollowi ng er ror m ess ages is dis play ed, the radio w as either progr am m ed incor rect ly or needs ser vicing: DSP ERR ERR=XXXX DSP ERR or DIG V ERR (Power Up.
27 Call Queued (T runked M ode O nly ) A high-pitc hed tone after pres sing the PT T button indicates the sy s tem has placed the c all reques t in the queue. T he rec eiving unit(s) also hear the tones , indicating they will rec eive a call shor tly .
28 Carrier Cont rol T imer If the pr ogram m ed tim e f or continuous trans m iss ion is exc eeded, five s hort high- pitched warning tones f ollowed by a long low-pitched tone will be heard. T he tr ansm itter will shut down shortly after hearing the aler t, interrupting c om m unications .
29 OPERA T ION T URNING ON TH E RA DIO 1. T urn on the radio by r otating the PO W ER O N- OF F/VOLUME k nob cloc k wise. A shor t alert signal (if enabled thr ough program m ing) indicates the radio is ready to use. 2. T he display shows the las t se lected sy s tem and group or a def ault s y s tem and group (depending on program m ing).
30 SYST EM /GROUP/CHA NNEL SEL ECT ION System Selection Several m ethods can be used to selec t a new sy stem. MET HOD 1: From knob: If s y s tem s election is program m ed to the SY ST EM/ GRO UP/CHANNEL k nob, selec t a sy st em by turning the SYSTEM/ GRO UP/CHANNEL k nob to the desir ed s y stem num ber pos ition (1- 16).
31 Note: If sy stem sele ctio n i s program m ed to the SY ST EM/G ROUP/CHANNEL k nob, direc t acc ess to sy s tem s will not be available. Pres sing < or > will sc roll through dif f erent s ets of 16 sy stem s each (bank s) if m ore than 16 sy stem s are progr am m ed into the radio.
32 Pre ss M . Group or Cha nnel Selec tion Several m ethods can be used to selec t a new group or c hannel. MET HOD 1: F rom k nob: If group selec tion is program m ed to the SY ST EM/G ROUP/ CHANNEL k nob, selec t a group by turning the SY ST EM/G ROUP/CHANNEL k nob to the desir ed group num ber pos ition.

In this m ode the operator selec ts a c om m unic ations s y s tem and group and the audio c om m unic ation or work ing channel ( W C) is allocated thr ough digital s ignaling wi th the s ite.
36 T he initiating radio ID of the las t group c all rec eived is s hown on line one of the dis play . Us e the > to view the radio ID's of other radios that initiated group c alls. Pres sing the M ke y will display the tim e elaps ed sinc e that c all was rec eived.
37 Sending A Group Call 1. T urn on the radio and s et the POW ER ON- OF F/VO LUME k nob to the desir ed volum e level. Select the des ired s y s tem and gr oup. 2. Press and hold the PT T button. T he radio will display the sy stem and group nam es and perf orm the necess ary s ignaling required to obtain a com m unica tion channel.
38 Conventional Failsoft In the unlik ely event of a f ailur e of the EDACS or ProVoic e Sy s tem , com m unications m ay tak e plac e in conventional f ails oft m ode. T he radio will be autom atic ally dir ected to a c om m unications channel set up f or this purpos e.

T he priority level sect ion sequenc e only advanc es the group to the nex t high priority level and stops at prior ity level 1. T o s elec t a lower prior ity level, the group m u st be deleted f rom the sc an list and then added back to the s can lis t.

44 FIXED P1 A Priority 1 group has been pre- program m ed into the radio. A new Priority 1 group c annot be selec ted. FIXD LST A fixed scan lis t has been pr e- program m ed into the r adio. It is not poss ible to change the list without reprogr am m ing the radio.

49 sc anning algorithm designed to replac e Pr oSound sc anning. ProSc an provides the r adio with the ability to select a new s y s tem f or the radio to com m unic ate on, w hen the selec ted sy s tem drops below a predef ined level.
50 Pre -Programme d Keypa d Key Pres s the pre- program m ed k ey and the SYSC ON or SYSC O FF display m es sage is disp lay ed f or two seconds to s how the new s tate.
51 T o res pond after the call- back tim e- out, pr ess the # k ey . The radio's display will show the caller s ID on the fir st line and WHCI=1 on the second line. Pres sing the PT T button at this point will initiate an individual call bac k to the original c aller.

Scr oll through the list of stor ed phone num bers using the < or > k ey until the desir ed num ber is dis play ed.
54 2. Pr ess the PTT button to trans m it. turns on, turns off and the c hannel acces s tone s ounds. Line one shows the c alled individual's ID fo llowed by the logical ID num ber of the unit being called. T he m ess age *INDV* dis play s on line two.
55 W hen in the sa ved call lis t, press ing the M ke y toggles the tim e stam p on and of f. T he tim e stam p indicates how long ago the call was r eceived. W hen in the pre-s tored lis t pres sing the M k ey toggles the L ogical ID entif ication ( LID ) on and of f .
56 Pre ss the M k ey again then use the < , > k ey s to s croll thr ough the list of prestor ed num bers . 2. Pres s and release the PT T button. W hen the radio is clear to tr ansm it, turns on, turns of f and the channel ac ces s tone sounds .
57 Direct Dia ling of Phone Calls (S yste m M odel only ) 1. If the phone num ber is not st ored in the pre- stor ed list of phone num ber s, but the phone num ber is k nown, it can be enter ed direct ly f rom the k ey pad. Start by press ing the * . T hen enter the requir ed num ber fr om the k ey pad.

T he radio can handle only one ty pe of c all at a tim e; however, selec tion of either data or voic e is selec ted trans parently by the operator through norm al usage of the radio.
