12 Operating the S A DV 1245 R Switching on Press the button on the front panel of the unit. The g reen indicator LED above the b utton lights up, as does the display screen. The u nit is now ready for use. For Stereo pl ayback (C D /SACD) switch ON your HiFi system and select the audio input the SADV 1245 R is connected to.

The SACD l ayer should always contain the music i n a pure ste reo format. Additionally it may c ontain the music in multi c hannel format.

18 Menu Functi ons of the S ADV 1245 R General During operation of the SADV1245R two different m enus are available: the disc menu a nd the player menu.
19 DVD / VCD Dis c Menu (menu operation and navigation) A DVD may c ontain a Disc Menu with selection facilities for individual titles and / or chapters . Depending on th e DVD, the disc may also contain games, bonus material o r alternatives for camera an gle, synchronous languages or sub-titles, which can be s et or called up via th e Disc Menu.

22 Menu Toolbar In this menu the playback options fo r the disc can be selected. Menu Pla y Option Disk-Navigation Submenu for title / chapter selection. Audio / Subtitle Submenus for the s election of audio l anguage and subtitle language. Only languages pr esent o n t he disc can be selected.
23 Menu Search Time This submenu lets you enter a ti me position on the disc where playback shall be started. Use t he numerical bu ttons of the remote con trol to enter hour, minutes and seconds. Then press t o confirm your selection.

26 Menu Preference s Menu Picture The men u Picture lets you adjust the picture parameters to your personal preferences. 28 Menu Features Wake up time r The SADV 1245 R w ill be switch ed on a t the selected period o f time. If the wake up timer i s active t he timer- LED in the display window will light up. Status win dow If the sta tus window is switched on, the c urrent operation mode and time information is displayed on the screen of the video monitor.

30 Menu Setup If t he SETUP menu is opened during pl ayback, the disc is stopped. The playback will continue after closing the SETUP on screen menu. Menu Language In this men u you can select the default values for the languages for sound track, s ubtitles and On-Screen- Menus.
31 Menu TV TV-System The SAD V 1245 R is compatible with both NTSC and with PAL video monitors. PAL Use this setting, if the picture shall be displayed on a PAL TV. DVDs in NTSC form at are converted to PAL by the SADV 1245 R and ou tput in standard PAL video mode.

33 Menu Speakers In th is menu you can adjust speaker sizes, delays and the volume le vel for each speaker c hannel. These adjustments help to optimize the response of your system. Note: These settings have no effect for SACD playback, if in menu ' Se tup /Audio Menu ' 'SACD output' = 'ON' is selected.
34 Menu Features PBC The play back con trol function c an be set to 'On' or 'OFF' . If 'On' is selected, the disc menu (if avail able on the disc) c an be accessed and will displayed on the TV. Note: This function is a vailable for video CDs (VCD) version 2.

47 CD A Compact Disc (CD) is a digital data medium that requires a little care in handling: • The surface of a CD m ay only b e cleaned using a soft, d ry cloth. Wipe in straight lines from the cent re towards the edge. • Never use p etrol, paint thinners, disc cleaning fluids or similar agents.

51 Problem: Surround decoder / receiver fails to recognise digital surround programs (Dolby Digital or dts). Cause: The dig ital output of the SADV 1245 R is wrongly configured ( PCM instead of ALL ). Remedy: Set t he di gital output to the correct ALL setting (see 'Basic device settings' ).
52 Problem: If the SA DV 12 45 R is co nnected t o a TV s et directl y using a SCART l ead, this can resu lt in a sc rolling DVD picture appearing on all programme memories. This problem may occ ur with man y t ypes of TV. Cause: The TV se t is analysing the A/V switching signal from the DVD player incorrectly, or not at all.
