Managing Synology Server Entering Web Management UI System administrator can manage the Sy nology Server by entering the web management UI. There a re two options for you to enter the management UI: Usi ng Setup Utility [Windows User] 1. Insert the Inst allation C D in to CD/DV D-Rom Drive.
4. After inst allation, double click o n t he desktop icon to execute the program. 5. Choose the server you want to mana ge and click “Manage” to e nter the Web Manag e ment UI. 6. Click on “Management”. Choose “login as system administrator (admin )”, input password and click “Enter”.
3. Double-Click "MacOSX" thumbnail. 4. Double-Click "Synology Assi stant-SY NOLOGY .dmg" thumbnail. 5. Double-Click "Synology Assistant " thumbnail to run setup wizard. 6. Choose a Synology Server and click "Manage" to enter the Web Management UI.
Connecting from Two Different Network* Synology Server supports dual LAN tha t allows you to connect to the network with two LAN cables at the same time, or to set the Synology Server using t wo IP addresses under dif ferent subnet s. Please go to the "System > Network" p age of the Web Man ageme nt UI for setup.
24 Repairin g Volume by Hot S wapping* Synology Server provides hot swapping function. When you need to replace crashed disks in Synology Server , you don’ t need to turn off the server .
Resetting Administrator Password Pressing the “RESET” button and hold it for about 4 seconds before you heard a beep sound will restore IP , DNS, p asswords for the "admin" account to default value, and reset the “guest” accou nt to the “enabled” st atus.
Accessing Synology Server Data File sharing service is one of the Synology Server's major functions. Administrator can setup access right s for users either with Windows or Mac to access share d folders. Shared Folders Syst em Built-in Below are system built-in sha red fold ers.
27 Name Description usbbackup After you connect external USB HDD to Synology Server ’ s USB port and format it for the backup purpose, system will automatically create a shared folder called “usbbackup”. Refer to “Server Backup and PC Backu p Solutions> Local Backup” section for det ails.
Adminis trator-C reated Apart from the above system built-in shar ed folders, Administrator can create shared folders on the page “ Priv ileges > Shared Folder” of the W eb Management UI. Shared folders created by Administrator can be deleted or renamed at any time.
Setting Encoding Synology Server uses Unicode to manage f iles. The benefit of using Unicode is to avoid file inaccessibilit y between users who use diff erent languages. However , for users without Unicode sup port on their PC, Administrator can set the encoding method of the files to over come the problem.

From di fferent network Through FTP Synology server provides FTP service. Administrator can enable FTP service on the “Network Service > FTP” p age of the Web Mana gement UI. Windows users and Mac users can thus access dat a in Synology Server by FTP Protocol.
33 33 Server Backup and PC Backup Solutions Synology Server provides complete backup solutions: 1. By using “Local Backup”, Admini strato r can back up Synology Server ’ s data to external USB or SA T A HDD.
3. Go to the page “Backup > Local Backup ” to set up your backup ta sk. Network Backup Network Backup allows Administ rator to back up Synology Server’s data to another Synology Server or an rsync-comp at ible server throu gh network. Please ensure Network Ba ckup is enabled on the t arget server before performing the task.
Backing up Personal Data Windows users can inst all “S ynology Dat a Replicator 3” backu p software which can be found on the installation CD. They can back up client PC data to Synology Server to maintain a good cop y of data whenever ne ede d. Using Synology Data Repli cator 3, users can: 1.
Installing Synology Data Replicator 3 Insert Install ation CD into Wind ows user CD/DV D-Rom drive. Click on “Syn ology Data Repli cator 3”, and follow on-screen instructions. Using Synology Data Replicator 3 After inst allation, double click on the sof t ware icon to execute the prog ram.
Backing up Synology Server Settings There are two options for you to back up Synology Server ’s “User”, “Grou p”, “Shared Folder” setting s for easy mai ntenance and restoratio n.

Extra Features Audio Station By connecting a set of verified USB speakers a nd the Synology Remote receptor to the USB ports on the Synology Server , users will be able to enjoy the music stored on the Synology Server with the music player in the Audio S tation web interface, or by the dire ction-free remote cont rol.
40 40 iTunes Service When “iT unes Service” is enabled, us ers can pl ay music files stored on Synology Server with any iT unes client s on the sam e subnet. For the detailed information and its limit ation, please refer to Help on “Network Services > iT unes” page of the Web M anag ement UI.
41 41 Multimedia Service When “UPnP Service” is enabled, users who have UPnP DMA (Digital Media Adapter) can browse multimedia files on Synology server .
42 42 Download Station Synology server can download files from Internet through BitT orrent, FTP , and HTTP . PC users and Mac use rs can either inst all Download Redirector or go to the “Download S tation” section of the Web Manage ment UI to add download tasks and ma nage the d ownload queue.
43 43 Web Station Personal or corporate website can be easily setup using “Web S tation.” By integrating with PHP and MySQL, users can also setup onlin e shop. PHP support is turned on by default, MySQL requires manually enabling. Enabl ing Web Stati on and MySQL Go to the “Network Services > W eb Services” p age.
44 44 Photo Station 3 “Photo S tation 3” is the new online album function integrating a blogging syste m. After uploadi ng the folder which cont ains photos and video s to the "photo" shared folder , Photo S tation 3 will st art to create thumbnails automatically .
Surveillance Station By using "Surveillance S tation", you can monitor th e live image of various IP cameras att ached on the network, flexib ly control the video recording options and record the videos. The supported camera number varies from dif ferent models for the best performance.
USBCopy* When a USB Device is connected to the USB port at the front panel, by pressing the “COPY” button all the data in the USB Device will be copied to Synology Server ’ s internal HDD. Setting USBCopy Target Location Y ou can setup USBCopy t arget location on the “External Devices > USBCopy” page of the W eb Management UI.
47 47 Mail Notifi cation Administrator can enter email address on the page “System > Notification”. Synology Server will send email to the address whenever an import ant event occurs to notify Administrator .
Firmware Update T o keep your Synology Server up to date, Administrator can go to “System > Firmware Update” page to upgra de firmware. Note: Normally , upgrading the firmware of the Synology server will not affect data on the Synology serve r .
Expanding Storage Capacity Administrator can expand t he storage capaci ty by connecting external hard disks, replacing the internal hard disk with a larger one, or adding a hard disk to the volume.
Replacing Larger Internal HDD When the internal HDD st orage is run out, Administ rator can follow the ste ps to replace a larger HDD and keep u sing the original data: Basic and RAID 0* Volume 1. Replace the original internal HDD with a large r one. 2.
