-4 2- F or Machines Mfg . Since 7/ 09 Mod el SB 1 0 1 6 / SB 1 036 OP E RA T ION The tailstock can be offset from the spindle centerline for turning tapers. The offset movement is controlled by two opposing cap screws on the front and back sides of the tailstock (see Figure 63 ).
F or Machines Mfg . Since 7/ 09 Mod el SB 1 0 1 6 / SB 1 036 -4 3- OP E RA T ION However, other tooling without lock tangs, such as the remaining four shown in Figure 66 , can still be used if the following two conditions exist: 1.
-44- F or Machines Mfg . Since 7/ 09 Mod el SB 1 0 1 6 / SB 1 036 OP E RA T ION Aligning The offset of your lathe was aligned with the spindle centerline at the factory. We recommend that you take the time to ensure that the tailstock is aligned to your own desired tolerances, especially if you have changed the offset to cut shallow tapers.
F or Machines Mfg . Since 7/ 09 Mod el SB 1 0 1 6 / SB 1 036 -4 5- OP E RA T ION 9. Use calipers to measure both ends of the workpiece. — If the machined workpiece is thicker at the tailstock end, move the tailstock toward the operator 1 ⁄ 2 the distance of the amount of taper (see Figure 70 ).
