17 Suppressing the skip of the sound (G-PRO TECTION) The G-PR O TECTION function w as developed to p rovide a hig her lev el of s hock resi stance than that o f existing p layers in order to allo w the recorder to be used while jog ging. 19 Adjusting tr eble or bass (Digital Sound Pr eset) Y ou can adjust the treble and bass to suit you r tas te. The player ca n store two sets of treble -bass adjustme nts, which can then be selected la te r during pl ay back.

32 Recording audio data to your computer Y o u can re cord audio data to yo ur computer from sources s uch as audio CDs and the I nternet (page 40). On the computer Listening Y ou can listen to an audio CD in the CD- ROM dri ve o f yo ur co mputer , or audi o data in the hard di sk drive (page 47).
33 What is a Net MD? Net MD is a stand ard tha t enables th e transf er of audio data from a compute r to a MiniDisc de vice. T o use this Net MD wi th your computer requires a so ftware applic ation called “Son icSt age”.

41 Recording audio CDs to the hard disk drive In Soni cS tage V er .1. 5, th e ha rd disk drive is called th e “M usic Drive”. The Musi c Dri ve manag es all audio d ata st ored b y Soni cStage . 1 Insert the audio CD that yo u want t o record i nto the CD -R OM dri ve of your comp uter .

43 Labeling audio data After recor ding has comple ted, you can la bel the audio da ta in the Music Driv e. Once a udio data in the Music Driv e is labeled, the label informati on will be tran sferred to a d isc along with the audi o data, allo wing you to vi ew the data on your Net MD.
44 T ransferring audio data from your computer to the Net MD (Check-out) Audi o da ta stored on the M usic Drive can be tran sf er red to your N et MD. This proce ss is called “ C heck-out”. The n umber of times a tr ack can be checke d out is re stricted in th is soft ware f or the pr otect ion of c opyri ghts (p age 61) .

46 Notes • Make sure the batt ery power is sufficient befor e chec king out (or checking in) audio dat a. If the battery becomes e xhausted d uring a che ck-out (or check-in), the chec k-out (or ch eck-in) wil l not be compl eted . If th is ha ppe ns, repl ace the dry batt e ry with a new one and try again.
