14 Getting Started 5.1 Channel Surr ound Hookups Some DVDs have a sound track with up to 5.1 channels recor ded in Dolby Digital, MPEG audio or DTS format. Using a receiver (amplifier) having 5.1 channel inputs and 6 speakers, you can enjoy a more r ealistic audio presence in the comfort of your own home.

16 Getting Started Y ou can select the language for the setup display , the Control Menu display or the messages displayed on the screen. The default setting is “ENGLISH.” 1 When the player is in stop mode, press DISPLA Y and select “SETUP” using M / m .
17 Getting Started Operation Sound Ef fects (Sound Feedback) The player beeps when the following operations are performed. The default setting of the Sound Feedback function is set to off.

20 Playing Discs Using the click shuttle and the JOG button/indicator , you can play back a DVD/CD/VIDEO CD at various speeds or frame by frame. Each time you press JOG, it changes between shuttle mode and jog mode. Playing at V arious Speeds/Frame by Frame T o change the playback speed (Shuttle mode) T urn the click shuttle.

23 Playing Discs Some DVDs have a title menu or a DVD menu that is provided with DVDs only . Using the title menu A DVD is divided into long sections of a picture or a music feature called “titles.” When you play a DVD which contains several titles, you can select the title you want using the title menu.

The time code corresponds to the appr oximate actual playing time. For example, to search for a scene 2 hours 10 minutes 20 seconds past the beginning, input 2:10:20.

If the DVD is recor ded in multiple audio formats (PCM, Dolby Digital, MPEG or DTS), you can select the audio format you want while playing the DVD.

42 Using V arious Functions with the Control Menu Using a register ed password, you can set playback restrictions for the desir ed disc. Y ou can set the same Custom Parental Contr ol password for up to 200 discs. When you set the two hundred and first disc, the first disc is canceled.

61 Settings and Adjustments Limiting Playback by Children (Par ental Control) Playback of some DVDs can be limited depending on the age of the users. The “Par ental Control” function allows you to set a playback limitation level. Select “CUSTOM SETUP” in the setup display .
