I NTR ODUCTION 1-2 encoding and then compression of the s ignal into Inter net Protocol (IP) pack ets . The V oIP R outer is equippe d with a digital signal processor (DSP), whic h segments the v oice signal into frames and s tores them in v oice pac k ets .
A PPLICATIONS 1-3 Applications Many adv anced networki ng fea tures are pro vided b y the Barricade: • Wireless and Wired LAN The Bar ricade pro vides connectiv ity to 10/100 Mbps devices , and wireless IEEE 802.11b/g compatible de vices , making it easy to create a netw ork in small offices or homes .
I NTR ODUCTION 1-4 • DMZ Host Support Allows a netw o rked computer to be fully exposed to the Inter net. This function is used when NAT and firew all security prev ent an Inter net application from functioning cor rectly .

If any of the item s are missing or damaged, contact your lo cal distributor . Also be sure that you hav e all the necessar y cabling be fore installing the Bar ricade.
I NSTALLATIO N 2-2 System Requirements T o install and connect to the Bar ricade, you m ust ha ve: • An ADSL line installed by your ISP. • An ADSL splitter (at least one). • A computer with a CD-ROM dr ive • Windows 2000 or late r, or Mac OS 9.
H ARDWARE D ESCRIPTION 2-3 Hardware Description The Bar ricade contains an integ rat ed ADSL2+ modem and connects to the Internet or to a r emote site usin g its W AN por t. T his device can be connected directly to your PC or to a local area netw ork using any of the four F ast Ethernet LAN por ts .

C ONNECT THE S YSTEM 2-7 Connect the System The Bar ricade can be posit ioned at any conv enient location in y our office or home. It can also be w all-mount ed. No special wirin g or cooling requirements are needed. Y ou should, how ev er , comply w ith the following guidelines: • Keep the Ba r ricade away from any heating devices.
I NSTALLATIO N 2-8 Warning: Do not plug a phone jack connect or into an RJ-45 port. This may damage the Barricad e. Note: Use 100-ohm shielded or unshielded twisted-pair cable with RJ-45 connectors for all Ethernet por ts . Categ or y 5 cable is recomme nded.

3-1 C HAPTER 3 C ONFIGURI NG C LIENT PC After completing hardware s etup by connecting all your netw ork devices , you need to configure y our comput er to connect to the Bar ricade. See: “Windows 2000” on page 3-3 “Windows XP” on page 3-6 or “Configuring Y our Macintosh Computer” on pag e 3-8 depending on your operating system.
C ONFIGURING C LIENT PC 3-2 TCP/IP Configuration T o access the Internet through the Barricade, yo u must conf igure the netw ork settings of the computers on y our LAN to u se the same IP subnet as the B ar ricade. The defaul t IP settings for the Barricad e are: IP Address: 192.
W INDOWS 2000 3-3 Windows 2000 1. On the Windows desktop , clic k Star t/Settings/Network and Dial-Up Connections . 2. Click the icon that cor responds to the connection to your Bar ricad e. 3. The connection status screen will open. Click Proper ties .

W INDOWS XP 3-7 Obtain IP Settings from Your Barricade Now that y ou ha ve configured y our computer to connect to your Bar ricad e, it needs to obtain new network settings . By releasing old DHCP IP settings and renewing them with se ttings from your Bar ricade, you can ve rify that you ha v e configured your computer cor rectly .
C ONFIGURING C LIENT PC 3-8 Configuring Your Macintosh Computer Y ou ma y find that the instr uctions here do not exactly matc h y our operating system. This is because thes e steps and scre enshots were created using Mac OS 10.2. Mac OS 7.x and abo ve are similar , but may not be identical to Mac OS 10.

N AVIGATING THE M ANAGEMENT I NTERFACE 4-3 Th e Bar ricade’ s manage ment interface consists of a Setup Wizard and an Adv anced Setup section. Setup Wizard: Use the Setup Wiza rd if you w ant to quickly set up the Bar ricade. G o to “SETUP WIZARD” on pag e 4-4.

S ETUP W IZARD 4-5 ADSL Setting Select your Countr y and Inter net Ser vice Provider . T his will automatically configure the Bar ricade with the co r rect Protocol, Encapsulation and VPI/V CI settings for your ISP . If your C ountr y or Inte r net Se r vice Provider is not li sted in th is scre en, you will need to manually enter settings .
