11 Attach to Your Network Using Radio Signals Install a wireless network adapter in each computer that will be connected to the Internet or your local network via radio signals. SMC currently offers several wi re less network cards, including the SMC2602W a nd SMC2632W W ireless cards.

Disable Proxy Connection You will also need to verify that the HTTP Proxy feature of your web browser is disabled. This is so that your we b browser will be able to view the Wireless Ba rricade configur ation pages.

Use the Setup Wizard if you want to quic kly se t up the Wireless Barricade for use with a cable modem or DSL modem.
Setup Wizard 31 Setup Wizard Time Zone Click on the Setup Wizard pictu re. The first item in the Setup Wizard is Time Zone setup. For accurate timing of client filtering and log events, you need to set the time zone. Select your ti me zone from th e drop-down list, and click NEXT.

Setup Wizard 33 Fixed-IP xDSL Some xDSL Internet Service Providers may assign a fixed (static) IP address. If you have been provided with this informat ion, choose this optio n and enter the assigned IP address, gateway IP address, DNS IP ad dresses, and su bnet mask.

For security you sh ould assign one before exposing the Wirel ess Barricade to the Intern et. Passwords can contain fro m 3–12 alp hanumeric characte rs and are not case sensitive.
Advanced Setup 39 Remote Management Remote Manage ment allows a remote PC to configure, man age, and monitor the Wireless Barricade using a standard We b browser. Check Enable and enter the IP address of the remote host. Click APPLY. Note: If you specify 0.

The default MAC ad dress is set to the WAN’s physical interface on the Wireless Barricade. Use th is address wh en registering for Internet service, and do not change it unless require d by your ISP.
Advanced Setup 41 Point-to-Point Over Ethernet (PPPoE) Enter the PPPoE User Name and Password assigned by your Service Pro vider. The Service Na me is normally optional, but may be required by some service providers. The MTU (Maximum Transm ission Unit) governs the maximu m size of the data pack ets.

Advanced Setup 45 DNS Domain Name Servers map numerical IP addresse s to the equivalent domain na me (e.g., www.smc. com ). Your ISP should provide the IP address of one or more dom ain name servers.

Advanced Setup 47 Wireless To configure the Wireless Barricade as a wireless access point for wireless clients (eithe r stationary or roam ing), all you need to do is define the radio ch annel, the Service Set identifier (SSID), and encryption option s.

Advanced Setup 49 You may automatically gene rate encryptio n keys or manually enter the keys. For automa tic 64-bit security, ente r a passphra se and click Generate. Four keys will be genera ted (as shown below). Choose a key from th e drop-down list or accept the default key.

Note that Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) protects data transmitted between wireless n odes, but d oes not protect any transmissions over you r wired network o r over th e Internet .
Advanced Setup 51 Virtual Server If you configure the Wireless Barricade as a virtual server, remote users accessing services such as Web or FT P at your local site via p ublic IP addresses can b e automatically redire cted to local servers configured with private IP addresses.
Configurin g the Wireless Ba rricade Rout er 52 Special Applications Some applications, such as Internet gaming, videoconfe rencing, Internet telephony and others , require mult iple connect ions. These applications cannot wo rk with Network Address Translation (NAT) enabled.
Advanced Setup 53 Firewall The Wireless Barricade fire wall can provide access control of connected client PCs, blo ck commo n hacker attack s, including IP Spoofing, Land Attack, Ping of Death, IP with zero length, Smurf Attack, UDP port loopback, Snor k Attack, TCP null scan, and TCP SYN flooding.

Advanced Setup 55 MAC Filtering Table The MAC Filtering feature of the Wi reless Barricade allows you to control access to your network to up to 32 clients based on the MAC (Media Access Control) Address o f the client machine. This ID is unique to each network adapte r.

Advanced Setup 59 Intrusion Detection Firewall Configuration • SPI (Stateful Packet Inspec tion) and A nti-DoS firewa ll protection (Default: Enabled) – the Wireless Barricade’s Intrusion Detection feature limits access for incoming traffic at the WAN port.
Configurin g the Wireless Ba rricade Rout er 60 DMZ (Demilitar ized Zone) If you have a client PC that cannot run an Internet application properly from behind the firewall, then you can open the client up to unrestricted two-way Internet access. Enter the IP address o f a DMZ host to this screen.
Advanced Setup 61 DDNS (Dynamic DN S) Settings Domain Name is a series of alphanumeric string s separated by periods, that is the ad dress of a network con nection and that identifies the owner of th e address. Dynamic DNS provides us ers on the Intern et with a method to tie their domain name (s) to computer s or servers.

With a DDNS connection you can host your own web site, email se rver, FTP site, and more at your own location even if you ha ve a dy namic IP address.
