9 XL-E80 Preparation for Use Remote control ! Battery installation Precautions for battery use: " Replace all old batter ies with new ones at the same time. " Do not mix old and new batteries. " Remov e the batteries if the unit will not be used for l ong period s of time.
10 XL-E80 Preparation for Use System c onnectio ns ! FM/AM loop antenna connection Connect the FM/AM loop antenna to the ANTENNA jack. P osition the FM antenna wire and rotate t he AM loop antenna for optimum reception. Place the A M loop antenna on a s helf, or attach it to a stand or a wall.
11 XL-E80 Preparation for Use ! Speaker connec tion Connect the b lack wire to the minus (-) ter minal, and the red wire to the plus (+) terminal. Caution: " Use speakers with an impedance of 6 ohms or more, as lower impedance speakers can damage the unit.
12 XL-E80 Basic Operation Sound c ontrol ! Adjusting the v olume Main un it oper ation: When the V OLUME control is tur ned clockwise, the v olume will increase. When it is turned counterclockwise, the v olume will decrease. Remote contr ol operat ion: Press the VOLUME (+ or -) b utton to increase or decrease the vol- ume.
13 XL-E80 Basic Operation Setting t he c lock This ma y be operated only with the remote c ontrol. In this example , the cloc k is set for the 12-hour (AM 12:00) display . T o confirm the time display: Press the CLOCK button. The time display will appear f or about 7 sec onds.
14 XL-E80 CD or MP3 disc Playback List enin g to a CD or MP3 disc This system can play audio CD , CD-R and CD-R W discs, b ut cannot record. Some audio CD-R and CD-R W discs may not be pla yable due t o t he state of the disc or the equipment us ed f or recording.
15 XL-E80 CD or MP3 disc Playback T o stop playbac k: Press the button. T o remove the disc: While in the stop mode , press the OPEN/CLOSE button. Caution: " Do not place two CDs in one d isc tra y . " Do not play discs with special shapes (hear t- or octagon-shap ed) as it may cause malfunctions.

T o clear the programmed selections: While the "MEMOR Y" indicator is lit, set the CD to the stop mode and then press the CLEAR b utton.

Timer playbac k: The unit turn s on and pla ys the desired source (CD , MP3 disc, tuner , tape) at a preset time. Sleep operation: The radio , CD , M P3 disc and cassette tape c an all be turned o ff au toma tical ly .

T o cancel the sleep operation without setting the system to t he stand-by mode , press the SLEEP button until "OFF" appears on the displa y .

30 XL-E80 References Mainte nance ! Cleaning the cabinet P eriodically wipe the cabinet with a soft cloth and a diluted soap solution, then with a dr y c loth. Ca utio n: " Do not use ch emicals for cleaning (gasoline, paint thinner , etc.). It ma y damage the cabinet finish.
