1 Before Y ou S tar t n Make sure that you have the follow ing items ready for the installation: n 3Com Access Point 8250, 8500, or 8750 n Standard detach able antennas (Access Point 8250 or 8750) n 3.
The installation CD includes the User Guide, whic h contains more detaile d information on planning, installing and configuring the device. Additional tools and utilities are provided to assist with the management of your network. See “Documentation and Software Utilities” on page 6 for instructions.
4 T o link t he access point to your Etherne t network, plug one end of another Ethernet cable into the port labeled T o Hub/Switch on the po wer supply , and plug the other end into a LAN port (on a hub or in a wall). 7 Antenna Adjustment (Access Point 8250/8750) Position the antennas so that they tu rn away from the access point at approximately a 45-degree angle . Y o ur particular location might require additional antenna adjustment.
9 Configuration Notes n For a new access point installation, the defau lt WL AN Service Area (ESS ID) is 3Com and no security is set. Unless it detects a DHCP server on the netw ork, the acce ss point uses Auto IP to assign an IP address of the form 169.
