The RIPv1 prot oco l imposes some lim itations o n the network design with rega rd to subnetting. When operating RIPv1, you must not configure variable length subn et masks (V LMS).

They are never timed-out, or lost over reboot, and can only be removed by manual configuratio n. Deletion (by configuratio n) of the IP int erface deletes the s tatic routes using this in terface as well.
