3 Wiring and Connecting the UPS 5000 VA XLI MO D E LS O NLY : H ARDWIRING I NSTRUCTIONS • Wiring must be perform ed by a qualif ied electrician. • Install a high magnetic 30/32 A utility circuit breaker. • Adhere to all national and local electrical codes.

5 B ASIC C ONNE CTORS serial com The serial connector is to be u sed for interf acing with APC Po werChute software and terminal emulation software. Use only cables appro v ed by APC. Any other interface cable will be incompatible with the UPS connector.
6 C ONNECTING E QUIPMENT AND P OWER TO THE UPS 1. Connect equ ipment to the UPS (cables not included for XLJ/XLT/XLTW models). 2. Avoid using exte nsion cords. • 3000 VA XLJ/ XLT/XLI/XL TW and 5000 VA XL J/XLT/XLTW models : Using a po wer cord, plug the UPS into a two- pole, thr ee-wire, grounded receptacle only .
7 O PERA TION Load S MART -U PS RT F RONT D ISPLAY Battery Charge Indicator Description Online The Online LED il luminates when th e UPS is drawing utility powe r and performing double con version to supply power to con nected equipment. On Battery The UPS is supplying battery po wer to the conn ected equipment.
8 Feature Function Cold Start When there is no utility po w er and the UP S is o f f, press and hold the button to power up th e UPS and connected equipment.

11 C ONNECTING THE EPO (E MERGENCY P OWER O FF ) O PTI ON The output pow er can be disabled in an emergen cy b y closing a switch connected to the EPO. Adhere to National and local electrical codes wh en wiring the EPO. The EPO switch is intern ally po w ered by the UPS for use with n on-po wered switch circuit breakers.

13 5000 VA m odels: Terminal Mode is a menu driven interface that enables configuration of the UPS by users not us ing PowerChute software or the installed Net work Management Card interfaces. Connect the serial cable to the serial port on the back of th e UP S.
14 • Press 2 and ENTE R to change the Battery Settings. • Type in the number of external battery packs (four batt ery modules per pack), and press E NTE R. (Num ber of packs: 1 = 1 S URT192XLBP, 2 = 2 SURT192XL BP etc.) • Press 3 and ENTER to accept the changes.
15 M AIN T E N AN C E AN D T RA NSPOR T Replacing the Battery Module This UPS has an easy to replace, h ot-swappable battery module. Replacement is a safe procedure, isolated from electrical hazards. You may leave the UPS and connected equipm ent on during the procedure.
