Ge tting Sta rted 8 1 Changing Modes This machine is both a fax and a copi er. If the machine is n ot i n Facsim ile m ode, press the { { { { Facsimi le } } } } key to use fax function. You can se t this mac hine to d isplay facsim ile mode immedia tely afte r the op er- ation switch is turned on.
R eading the Display 9 1 Reading t he Display The mach ine status and instruc tions are shown on the display. Note ❒ All procedures in this manual assume you are in Facsimile mode. If the ma- chine is not in Facsim ile mode, press the { { { { Facsimile } } } } key to change to Facsim- ile m ode.

When the indicator of the { { { { Memo ry Trans. } } } } key is not lit, Immediate Transmission is selected.
S etting Originals 13 2 Setting O riginals You can set your originals either in the Do cument F eeder o r on the expo - sure glass. Some types of o riginals are unsuitable for the Docu ment Feeder so they mu st be set on the exposure glass.
Faxing 14 2 Placing a Single Ori ginal on the Expos ure Glass Set orig inals that cannot be p lac ed in the Document Feeder, such as a book, on the e xposure glass one page at a time .
Setti ng Orig inals 15 2 A A A A Adjust the document guide to match the size of your originals. Align the edges of your originals and stack them in the Docum ent Feeder face up. Adj ust the docu- ment guide t o matc h the si ze of the originals again .
Faxing 16 2 Memory Tr ansmission Memory Transmissi on is convenien t because: • Fax documents can be scanned much m ore quickly. Your scanned docum ent is stored in the memory, and then sent automatically, meaning you do not have to wa it for your document to send.
Memory Trans mission 17 2 B B B B Set the original. Lim ita tion ❒ You can send the first pages from the exposure glass, and then the remaining pages from the Docume nt Feeder . After you place the last pa ge on the expo- sure glass, you have 60 second s to in se rt the rema inin g page s in the Document Feeder.

F axing 24 2 Scan Settings You may wish to send many different types of fax messages. Some of these may be d iffic ult to rep roduce a t the other end. However , yo ur mach ine has three settings that you can adjust to help you transmit your document with the best p ossible im age qual ity.

Dialing 27 2 Note ❒ If a mem o ry file is awaiting transmis- sion and t he "Exceeded th e Max.Canno t Add" message is dis- played when diali ng with the num- ber keys, you cannot dial any more num bers. That is becau se the fax numbers have been dialed with the num ber keys for some of the files awaiting transmission.

Faxing 32 2 - - - - Distin ctive Ring Two numbers (telephone number and fax number) c an be assign ed to one line by maki ng a contract with your tel ephone co mpany for Distinc- tive Ring. Each number will have a different ringing pattern. This is use- ful for distinguishi ng a fax from a tele pho ne ca ll.

Groups 49 3 Grou ps If you regularly broadcast documents to the same set of destinations, you can combine these numbers into a group. Then just selec t the group and each number will be dialed in se- quence automati cally.

1 1. Transmission Options Sending at a Speci fic Time (Send Later) Using the Send Later function, you can delay transmis sion of your fax message until a specified time. This allows you to take advantage of off- peak telephone line charges without having to be by the machine at the time of transmission.
