1 ABOUT THIS GUIDE T h i s guide pro v i d es i n s t r u c t i o n s f o r u s i n g an i n d u s t r y - s t a n d ard t e l e p h o n e — a l s o k n o w n as a single line telephone (SLT)— w ith a Sa m sung DCS telep hone sy ste m . A variet y of SLTs from many different m anufacturers are av ailable.
2 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW Lifting the handset on y our p h o n e p rovides DCS dial tone. To get an outside line from the telephone com pany, dial an acces s code (usually the digit 9 in the UK). Check w ith y our system ad m inistrator if y ou are not sure of this code.
3 SYSTEM TONES The system p rovides several tones to assist you. Som e of these tones are already fam iliar to you. Dial Tone —A steady ton e that indicates you can begin dialling. Ringback Tone —Indic ates the sta tion you dial led is ri nging. Busy Tone —In d icates th e statio n you dialled is busy.
4 EXTERNAL CALLS MAKING AN EXTERNAL CALL 1. Lift th e handset and listen for internal dial tone. 2. Dial a C.O. line or lin e group access code. 3. Lis ten for external dial tone an d dial the telephone nu mber. 4. Finish the call by replacing th e handset.
5 INTERNAL CALLS CALLING OTHER STATIONS 1. Lift the handset . 2. Di al the extensi on number or group number . 3. Wait for the party to answ er. (If y o u hear several brief tone bursts instead of ringback tone, th e station y o u called is a digital key set set for Voice An nounce or Auto An swer.
6 CALL PROCESSING HOLDING CALLS When y o u are connected to any call: Press Recall, listen for transfer tone and dial 11 . The call will now be o n hold. You m ay now make or receive a s econd call. To take the caller off hold: Lift th e handset and dial 11 .
7 TRANSFERRING CALLS Transfer is used to send any call to another extens ion in one of tw o way s. You can perf orm a ‘screened’ transfer by informin g the other extens ion who is calling or y ou can perf orm a blind (‘unscreen ed’) transfer with o u t notification.
8 SETTING UP A CONFERENCE You may conference up to five parties (you an d four others) in an y com bination of exter- nal lines and intern al statio n s, in any order. 1. While you are engaged in a co n versation, pr ess Recall, listen for transfer tone and dial 46 .
9 FORWARD BUSY To forward calls to another station or group w hen you are already on a call: 1. L i f t t h e h a n d s e t a n d d i al 602 p l u s t h e e x t e n s i o n or g ro u p nu m ber. 2. W hen you hear co nfirmation t one, hang up . To cancel Forward Busy , lift the han dset and dial 600—OR— dial another call forw arding code (e.
10 FORWARD TO EXTERNAL NUMBER When y ou want to f orward all y our calls to an external nu mber: 1. Lif t the han d s et and dial 15 foll owed by 102 . 2. Dial 5 . 3 . Dial the t r unk o r t r unk g r o u p access c od e (usually 9 ) f o ll o w e d b y the exte r n al nu m - ber that you w a n t calls to f o r w ard t o .
11 DIALLING FEATURES SPEED DIALLING You can dial a preprogram med telephone n umber stored in the syst em-w ide speed dial list of nu mbers (see n ote) or from y our personal list of n umbers (00–49). 1. Lif t the han d s et and dial 16 . 2. Di al the 2-digi t personal speed dial n umber, or th e 3-digit sy stem speed dial num - ber.
12 SAVE NUMBER WITH REDIAL To save the exte rnal number you ha ve just dia lled for later use: Befo re hanging up , press Re call, li sten for co nfirmation t one and d ial 17 . To redial this saved num ber at any tim e: Lift th e handset and dial 17 .
13 PAGING AND MESSAGING MAKING AN INTERNAL PAGE To m a ke an announce m e nt through keyset speakers : 1. Lift the handset . 2. Dial 55. 3. Dial the page zone number 1, 2, 3 or 4 (i f usin g a DCS 408/408i sy stem , dial 1 or 2 only ) —OR— dial 0 to page all internal zones.
14 CALL PARK AND PAGE When you hav e an extern al call for someone w ho is aw ay from their desk, y ou can park the call and pag e the requested party: 1. While in conv ersatio n , p ress Recall and dial 55 . The call is autom atically parked at your sta tion.
15 CANCELLING A MESSAGE You can cancel a m essage indication that you have left at anot her station . 1. Lift the handset . 2. Dial 42 plus the extens ion number of that station. To cancel all message in dications left at your phone : 1. Lift th e handset and dial 42 p lus your extensio n num b er.
16 CONVENIENCE FEATURES DO NOT DISTURB Use Do Not Disturb (DND) mode wh en you w ant to blo ck incoming calls to y our keyset: Lift th e handset and dial 401 . To cancel DND: Lift th e handset and dial 400 . You can still m ake calls while in DND m ode.
17 If you m ake an error, repeat the procedure w ith the correct code. Only the last account code dialled will be recorded. To enter an account code af ter the external party hangs up: 1. Press Recall, listen for confirmation tone an d dial 47 . 2. Dial the account code (a m axim um of 12 ch aracters, which can include # but not *).
18 ANSWERING AN ALARM When the alarm rings, you w ill hear a series of sh or t rin gs, repeated three times. Lif t the handset to answ er the alarm. If y ou do not answer, th e alarm w ill alert y ou tw o more tim es at pre-determined in tervals.
