10 Section 1 Low Battery Indicator When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, a warning tone sounds and the “W arning Low Battery” message repe ats at regular intervals on the display . When this happens, your phone turns off the backlight to conserve the remaining battery power .

22 Section 3 Making a Call When the idle screen displays, enter the ar ea code and phone number , and press the key . Note: When you activate the Auto redial option in the Extra settings menu, the phone will automat ically redia l up to 10 times when the person does not answer the call or is already on the phone.
Section 3: Call Functions 23 Adjusting the Call Volume Section 3 1. If you ha ve typed characters on the display , press the key to return to Idle mode. 2. Press the key to display a list of the most recent numbers used in th e order you di aled or received them.
24 Section 3 Press the key to increase the volume level and the key to decrease the level. In Idle mode , you can also ad just the keypad tone volume using these keys. Answering a Call When somebody calls you, the phone rings and displays the incoming call image.

Note: T o reject an incoming call, press and hold the V olume ke ys on the left side of the phone before opening the phone, or press the Reject soft key or key .

Silent Mode Silent mode is convenient when you wish to stop the phone fr om making noise, in a theater for example.

44 Section 5 Changing the T ext Entr y Mode When using your ph one, you wi ll often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phone bo ok, creating your personal gree ting or scheduli n g e v e n t s o n y o u r c a l e n d a r. Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’s keypad.

52 Section 6 Finding a Phone Book Entry Y ou can store phone numbers and their correspondin g names in your SIM card and phone’s memories. They are physically separate but ar e used as a single entity , called Phone book. Depending on your particular SIM card, the maximum number of phone numbers the SIM car d can store may diffe r .

66 Section 7 T ext Messages Short Message Service (SMS) allows you to send and receive short text messages to and fr om other mobile phones. In addition, your phone supports the Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS ), which enables you to includ e simple pictur es, melodies, and animated images in your messages.

The message is deleted after sending. 䢇 Save and send: allows you to save a copy of the message to the Outbox and then send the message. 䢇 Save as draft: allows you to save the mess age in the Outbox so that it can be sent later .

72 Section 7 䢇 Default destination: allows you to store a default destina tion number . The number automatically displays on the Destination screen when you create a message. 䢇 Default type: allows you to set the default m essage type to T ext, Fax, E-mail, or Paging.
Section 7: Messaging 73 Picture Messages Section 7 Delete All This menu allows you to delete all of the text messages in each message box. Y ou can also delete all of your messages at one time. 1. T o select a messa ge box to clear , press the Up or Down key .

The display shows the total sp ace including the used and free space. Y ou can also view how much space is currently occupied by each message box.

Section 7: Messaging 85 Broadcast Messages (SIM Dependent) Section 7 Broadcast Messages (SIM Dependent) This network service allows you to r eceive text messages on various topics, such as th e weather or traffic. Cell Broadcast (CB) messages display as soon as they are received, pr ovided that: • the phone is in Idle mode.
86 Section 7 IM (Instant Message) Instant Messenger (I M) is a way of sending short, simpl e messages that are deliver ed immediately to users online at that moment. Before using this feat ure, you need to subscribe to a messenger service. For furt her details, contact your service provider .

It includes displ ay settings, security settings, and extra settings associated with your phone.
Section 8 88 Sound Settings Y ou can customize various sou nd settings. Ring T one This menu allows you to select a ring melody . Y ou can choose between many dif ferent melodies. If you have downloaded sounds from the Internet, you can use them in this menu.

T o turn off the sou nd, sele ct Off . Message T one This menu allows you to set up the ringer for incoming messages, text messages, multimedia mess ages, and broadcast messages.
Section 8 90 Picture Message This menu allows you to select how the phone informs you that a new m ultimedia message has been receiv ed. The following options ar e available: • T one: allows you to use one of several message tones. • Mode: allows you specify how you are informed of any incoming messages.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 91 Sound Settings Section 8 䢇 T one: the phone rings using the tone selected under the T one option. 䢇 Vibration: the phone vibrates. 䢇 Light only: the service light flashes. • Repetition: allows you to specify how often the phone informs you of a new message.
Section 8 92 Extra T ones Y ou can customize addition al tones for the phone. 1. T o turn a given to ne on, press the On soft key or the key . A ch eck mark displays in front of the option. 2. T o turn a given to ne off, press the Off soft key or the key .

Y ou can also find out what time it is in another part of the wor d. The following options ar e available: • Set time: allows you to enter the current time.
Section 8 94 䢇 Off: you need to manually set the time and date accordin g to the current time zone using the Set time menu (Menu 9.1.1). 䢇 On: the phone automatically updates the time and date according to the curr ent time zone using the network service.

When the image displays, p ress the Select soft key to display it on the idle screen . 䢇 T ext color: you can select the co lor of the text to be displayed on the idle screen. Menu Style This menu allows you to select the menu display style.
Section 8 96 Service L ight This menu allows you to sele ct whether or not the service light is used. It also allows you to selec t a color in which it flashes. Select one fr om the color combinations. When the phone is ready for use, th e service light flashes in the chos en color .
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 97 Phone Settings Section 8 Security The Security featur e enables you to restrict the use of your phone by the others and to restrict the types of calls. V arious codes and passwords are used to pr otect the features of y our phon e.
Section 8 98 The password is preset to “00000000” at the factory . T o change the phone password, se e "Change Password " on page 98. Once the correct passwor d has been entered, you can use the phone until you s witch it off.

Section 8 100 Shortcut The Up, Down, Rig ht, and Left keys can be used as shortcut keys. In Idle mode , they allow you to access specific menus directly . The Phone book, Messages, and V oice messages menus are pr eset as shortcuts for the Down, Left, and Right key s respectively .

104 Section 9 Calendar W ith the Calendar featur e, you can: • consult the calendar and check your memos. • write memos to keep track of your schedule. • set an alarm to act as a reminder , if necessary. Consulting the Calendar When you select the Calendar menu, the calendar displays with today’s date highlighted.
