Y our Phone 10 Backlight The backlight illumina tes the display a nd the keypad. Whe n you press any key or open the phone, the backlight turns on and remains on for a given period of time, depending on your setting in the Back Light menu ( Menu 9.3.6 ).
Getting S tarted 11 Getting Started Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellula r network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, any optional services , and other information.
Getting S tarted 12 If you need to remove th e SIM card, slide it, as shown, and take it out of the socket. 3. Replace the battery . Make sure that the battery is properly installed before switching on the phone.
Getting S tarted 13 Charging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li-ion battery . A travel adapter comes with your phone for charging the battery . Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask your local Samsung dealer for further details.
Getting S tarted 14 the display . If this happens, the display dims to conser ve the remaining battery power . When the battery level becomes too low , the phone automatically turns off. Check the battery indicator icon peri odically and recharge as needed to make sure the phone has enough batter y power when needed.
Call Functions 15 Call Functions Selecting Functions and Options The roles of th e soft keys vary depending on the function you are currently using. The labels on th e bottom line of the display just above each key in dicate their current role. The Left soft key can be used i n several different ways.
Call Functions 16 Back option. This action is shown in the bottom right corner of the Display Screen. ♦ In some functions , you may be as ked for a password or PIN. Enter the code and press the OK soft key . Note: When you access a list of options, your phone highligh ts the current option.
Call Functions 17 the call or is already on t he phone. For carriers that automati cally divert unanswered call to voice mail, the Auto redial feature will no t provide useful service. See “Extra settings” on page 124 for further details. Making an International Call 1.

Call Functions 19 Adjusting the V olume During a call, if you want to adjust the earpiec e volume, use the Volume keys on the left side of the phone. ♦ Press the volume key up to increase the volume leve l and down to decrea se the le vel. ♦ In Idle mode, you can also adjust the keypad tone volume using these keys .
Call Functions 20 Viewing Missed Calls When you are unable to answer a call, you can find out who called. The number of calls you missed is displayed on the idle screen immediatel y after a c all is misse d. T o view the missed call immed iately: 1. If necessary , open the folder .

Options During a Call 23 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of fe atures that you can use during a call. Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while you have a call in progress if your network supports this service.
Options During a Call 24 Note: Please contact your service provider to determine if multi-party ca lling is supported. Setting up th e Multi-party Call 1. Call the first participant in the normal way . 2. Call the second participant in th e normal way .
Options During a Call 25 Dropping One Participant 1. Press the Options sof t key and select th e Remove option and press the OK soft key . The call ends wit h that participant , but you can continue to talk to the others. 2. When you want to end the mu lti-party call, press the key .
Options During a Call 26 Muting or Sending Key T ones These options allow you to turn the key tones off or on. If the Mute keys option is selected, your phone does not transmit the DTMF (Dual T one Multi-Freque ncy) tones of the keys , which allows you to press keys without hearin g a nnoying key tones during a call.

Entering T ext 29 Entering T ext When using your pho ne, you will ofte n need to enter tex t, such as when storing a name in the Cont act list, creating your personal greeting or scheduling events on you r calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.
Entering T ext 30 built-in dictionary . Y our phone will select the most likely word based on your keystroke combinations. T o enter a w ord in T9 m ode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start entering a word by pressing the 2 to 9 keys. Press each ke y only once for each letter .
Entering T ext 31 ♦ T o enter periods, hyphe ns or apostrophes, press the key . T9 mode applies grammar rules to en sure that the correct punctuation is used. ♦ T o shift the case in T9 mode, use the key . ♦ Y ou can move the cursor by using the Left and Righ t keys.

Y ou can drag and drop files between your computer’ s and your phone’ s folders. Note: When transferring mp3 files o nto your phone place th em in the Mu sic folder on your phone.
T ran sferring Files between your Pho ne and PC 36 Note: Files transferred from the computer are st ored in your phon e’ s memory . If desired, you can transfer them from the phone’s memory to a T ransFlash card.
T ra nsferring Files between your Phone and PC 37 Note: If th is is the first time that t he T ransFl ash card is inserted into your phone, your phone will create folders for Music, Sounds, Images, etc. Note: Be sure to use only recommended memory cards (8 M B – 512 MB).

Games 71 Games Y ou can play games already stored on your phone. Get More Games This option allows you to downl oad games from your se rvice provider . Follow the online instru ctions shown on your display screen. Once you have downloaded games, they are added to your phone’ s list of games.
Games 72 Viewing Game Information 1. In Idle mode, select Menu 3 for Games . 2. Scroll to the game you want, press the Options soft key and select Proper ties . The display shows information about the game, such as the Si ze, Version, Vendor and website.
Applications 73 Applications Applications enable you to: ♦ set an alarm so that the phone rings at a specific ti me, such as to remind you of an appointment. ♦ view the calendar and organize your schedule. ♦ use the phone as a calculator for basic mathematical equations or currency exchange operations.

Media 87 Media The Multimedia menu ( Menu 6 ) provides access to the following features: ♦ take pictures and video clips using the Camera. ♦ play music with the MP3 player . ♦ record audio with the Voice recorder ♦ use the Image editor to adjust your photos.

Media 89 ♦ Print via: sends the photo to a Pictbridge printer using a USB or Bluetooth connection. ♦ Protection : prevents a photo in your photo album from being accidentally dele ted.

Media 98 Image editor The Image editor ( Menu 6.4 ) allows you to modify existing pictures stored on the phone or new photos that you take. T o modify an image 1. Press Menu 6.4 . 2. Press the Options sof t key and select New Image . ♦ T o modify an exis ting photo, select Open .
Media 99 ♦ Send via : allows you to send th e photo using mu ltimedia message, email or to a compat ible Bluetooth enabled device. ♦ Share for Bluetooth : allows the photo to be shared or released for the use of anothe r Bluetooth device. ♦ Print via: sends the photo to a Pictbridge printer using a USB or Bluetooth connection.
Fun & T unes 100 Fun & T unes The Fun & T unes menu ( Menu 7 ) is used to manage your collection of audio clips, gra phics, downloaded vide o, and other files. Images In this menu ( Menu 7.1 ), you can select a ne w wallpaper image from your collection of pictures and phot os.
Fun & T un es 101 • Caller ID : allows you t o set the photo a s a caller ID i mage for Contact list entri es. ♦ Edit : edit the photo using the Image editor . ♦ Move to : moves the photo from you r phone’ s memory to the memory card or the Favorites folder .
Fun & T unes 102 Memory card In this menu, you can navigate through the folders on your memory card and create new subfolders. Fo r more information, see “Memory card” on page 107.
