The Soft key (left) performs the function indicated by the screen text on the bottom line of the display above the key . Y our Phone 6 11. The End key hangs up the phone to end a call. The end key also switches the phone on and off when held down. In Menu mode, the end key canc el s your input and returns the phone to Idle mode. 12. In Menu mode, the navigation keys scroll throug h the menus and Phonebook.
Y our Phone 7 Display Display Layout The display has the following areas: Icons Shows the rec eived signal st rength. The gr eater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a new text message has been rece ived. Area Description Icons Displays various icons.
Y our Phone 8 Appears when a new voice mail has been received. Appears when a new m ultimedia message has been received. Appears when you set an alarm to ring at a specified time. For details, see “Alarm” on page 68. Appears when there is no ne twork coverage available.
Y our Phone 9 Selecting Functions and Options The roles of th e soft keys vary depending on the function you are currently using. The labels on th e bottom line of the display just above each key in dicate their current role. The Left soft key can be used in several differ ent ways: ♦ In Idle mode, press to access the Menu .
Y our Phone 10 ♦ In some functions , you may be as ked for a password or PIN. Enter the code and press the OK soft key . Note: When you access a list of options, your phone highligh ts the current option.
Y our Phone 11 Backlight The backlight illumina tes the display a nd the keypad. Whe n you press any key or open the phone, the backlight turns on and remains on for a given period of time, depending on your setting in the Backlight menu ( Menu 9.2.5 ).
Getting S tarted 12 Getting Started Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular ne twork, a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN and other optional serv ices. Removing the Batter y 1. If necessary , power -off the phone by holding down the key until the power-off imag e displays.
Getting S tarted 13 Make sure the gold contacts of th e card face into the phone, then slide the SIM card into the soc ket. Removing the SIM Card T o remove the SIM card, slide it awa y from the handset. See the following illustration. Installing the Battery 1.
Getting S tarted 14 3. With the battery in position on the phone, place the cover back on the handset and sl ide it in until it clicks. Charging a Battery Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li-ion battery . Use the travel adapter to charge the ba ttery , and use only Samsung approved batteries and chargers.
Getting S tarted 15 3. Press the buttons on both sides of the connector (1) and (2) pull the connector out. Note: You must unplug the adaptor before removing the bat tery from the phone du ring charging to avoid dam age.
Getting S tarted 16 The phone searches for your network and, after finding it, the idle screen appears on the display . Y ou can now make or receive a call. The display language is preset to Automatic and is dependent on the setting in the SIM as determin ed by your service provider .
Call Functions 17 Call Functions Making a Call When the idle screen displays, enter the phone number (with area code, if ne cessary), then pre ss the ke y .
Call Functions 18 Correcting the Number Ending a Call When you want to end your call, briefly pr ess the key or close the phone. Redialling the Last Number The phone stores the nu mbers you have dialed, rece ived or missed if the caller is identified.
Call Functions 19 3. Use the Up and Down keys to scr oll through the numbers until the number you want is highlighted. Making a Call from Contact list Y ou can store the phone numbers th at you use regula rly in the SIM card or the phone’ s memory , which are collectively called Contact List .
Call Functions 20 Answering a Call When somebody calls you, the phone rings and displays the incoming call im age. If the caller can be identified and is stored in your Contact list, the caller’ s phone number or name is displayed. T o answer a call 1.
Call Functions 21 T o view the missed call immed iately: 1. Open the phone. 2. Press the View soft ke y . The number for the most recent missed call displays, if available. Saving a Missed Call Number Note: When the number for the missed ca ll is not available, the Edit option does not display.
Call Functions 22 5. Choose between the Phone , SIM and SIM (FDN) locations and press the Select soft key . If you selected Phone, use the up and down keys to select the phone category and press the Select soft key . 6. Enter the Name or choose from th e provided list and press the Save soft ke y .
Options During a Call 23 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of fe atures that you can use during a call. In Call Options During a call, press the Options soft key to access the following: ♦ Loud Spkr On/Off : Allows you to enable the speakerphone option.
Options During a Call 24 T o make a call while you have a call in progress: 1. T o place a call on hold, sim ply press the Options soft key and select Hold . Y our current call is placed on hold. 2. Enter the phone number that you wish to dial. Press the key to dial the second call.
Options During a Call 25 Y ou can also add incoming callers by answering the call, pressing the Options soft key , and selecting the Joi n option. Repeat as required. Having a Private Conversation with One Participant 1. Press the Options sof t key and select Sp lit , and press the Select soft key .
Options During a Call 26 T o switch the micropho ne off temporarily: ♦ Press the Mute soft key . The other pers on can no longer hear you. T o switch the micropho ne back on: ♦ Press the Unmute soft key . The other pe rson can hear you again. Muting or Sending Key T ones These options allow you to turn the key tones off or on.
Options During a Call 27 Sear ching for a Number in the Contact s List Y ou can search for a number in the Contact list during a call. 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. Press the Down key to highlight the Contacts option and press the Select soft key .

Entering T ext 29 Entering T ext When using your pho ne, you will ofte n need to enter tex t, such as when storing a name in the Cont act list, creating your personal greeting or scheduling events on you r calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.
Entering T ext 30 ♦ Press the right soft key to move through the different types of text entry modes. ♦ Press to change case. Press and hold to switch to Symbol mode. ♦ Press and hold to switch b etween the current text entr y mode (Alphabet mode or T9 mode) and Number mode.

Menus 34 Menus The navigation key on your phone allows you to scroll through menus quickly and easily . The scrol l bar at the right of the menu keeps track of your positi on in the menu at all times. ♦ T o navigate through a menu, simply press the navigation key up or down.

Call History 42 Call Histor y In this menu, you can: ♦ view calls you missed, re ceived or dialed ♦ view the length of ca lls made and receiv ed Note: You can access the m ost recent numbers in the three types of call history records by pressing the key in Idle mode.

Call History 44 When a confirming mess age displays, press the Ye s soft key to confirm. Call T ime This menu ( Menu 1.5 ) lets you view the time rs for calls you made and received. Note: The actual time invoiced for calls by your service provider may var y , depending on network features, rounding-off for billing purposes and so on.

Data Volume This menu ( Menu 1.6 ) lets you view the amount of data transferred over your phone in KB.

Messages 47 Messages Y ou can send and receive a range of different me ssage type s from your mobile phone, including: ♦ T ext Message allows you to send text messages (SMS) to another text messaging-capable phone.

Games & Apps 57 Games & Apps Y ou can play games already stored on your phone, as well as download new games from your service provider . Download Games This option allows you to downl oad games from your se rvice provider . Follow the online instru ctions shown on your display screen.
Games & Apps 58 Deleting Games 1. From your list of ga mes, scroll to the gam e you want to delete and press the Options soft key . 2. Scroll to Delete and press the key . 3. Confirm that you want to dele te the ga me by pressing the Delete soft key .
Internet 59 Internet This menu ( Menu 4 ) allows you to surf the Internet, create bookmarks, configure your Intern et browser or clear your cache. Home This menu ( Menu 4.
Internet 60 Entering T ext in the Internet Browser When you are prompted to enter text, the current text input mode is indicated on the screen. See “Entering T ext” on page 29 for information. Favorites Y ou can create bookmarks for your fa vorite Internet sites to quickly and easily access it in the future.
Internet 61 7. Enter a name for this bookmark and press the OK soft key . If you leave the name bla nk, the URL will be displayed in the Bookmark list. Go to URL The Go to URL screen allows you to directly type in a web address and load that page without clic ki ng on a link.
Internet 62 ♦ Profile Name : enter a name that you wish to assign to the Brow ser profile. ♦ Home URL : set the address of your startup hom epage. When the default homepage di splays, you ca n delete it using the key and enter your own choice.
Rogers Mall 63 Rogers Mall The Rogers Mall menu ( Menu 5 ) provides a convenient place to download all your ringtunes, game s and graphics. In add ition, you can surf the Internet. Sear ch This menu ( Menu 5.1 ) takes y ou to an online search engine provided by your service provider .
Rogers Mall 64 Email/Chat This menu ( Menu 5.5 ) allows you to view email a nd instant messages using a web-based client . Follow the online instr uctions shown on your display screen. Celebrity V oicemail This menu ( Menu 5.6 ) allows you to downloa d new audio clips from your servi ce provider that fe ature celebrity voices.
Media 65 Media The Media menu ( Menu 6 ) is used to manage your collection of ring tunes and graphics. Audio The Audio menu ( Menu 6.1 ) allows you to get new tunes using the Internet browser . Y ou can download, recor d new , and save to your Downloaded Ring T unes folder .

Media 67 Downloaded Graphics This menu allows you to access your do wnloaded graphics. Scroll to the ima ge you want to view . Default W allpapers The Default W allpapers menu contai ns all the standa rd wallpapers that come with your phone. Scroll to a desired wallpaper and press the Select soft key .
To o l s 68 T ools T ools enable you to: ♦ set an alarm so that the phone rings at a specific ti me, such as to remind you of an appointment. ♦ view the calendar and organize your schedule. ♦ use the phone as a calculator for basic mathematical equations or currency exchange operations.

Contact s 76 Contacts Y ou can store phone numbers a nd their corresponding names in both your SIM card and phone’ s memor y . They are physically separate but are used as a single entity , called your Contact List ( Menu 8 ). Contact List The Contact List ( Menu 8.
Contact s 77 ♦ Copy to SIM (FDN) : allows you to copy the contact information from the Phone to the SIM (FDN). ♦ Delete Entry : allows you to delete the se lected Contacts list e ntry. Searching for and Dialing a Number in the Contact List After stor ing num bers in the Co ntact List, you can search for them by name.
Contact s 78 Add New Contact There are two wa ys to store a number: ♦ From Idle mode, enteri ng a number and using the Save sof t key . ♦ From the Contacts menu, using the Add New Contact option ( Menu 8.
Contact s 79 Storing a Number Using the Contacts Menu 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu soft key to access the menu. 2. Select Contacts and press the Select soft key or the key . 3. Scroll to Add New Contact by pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft key .
Contact s 80 3. Scroll to Speed Dial by pressing the Up or Down navigation key and press the Select soft key or the key . 4. Select the key in which you wi sh to assign the speed-dialing number (from the 2 to 9 keys), and press the key . Note: Memor y location 1 is reserved for your Voice Mail server number .
Contact s 81 4. Highlight the number you want to view by pressing the Up or Down navigation key . The nu mber type is displayed. FDN List FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supported by your SIM card, allows you to restrict your outgo ing calls to a limited set of phone numbers.
Contact s 82 7. Press the up or down navigation key until the desired group is displayed on screen and press the key . 8. When you are finished, press the Back soft key or key to exit to the Idle scre en.
Contact s 83 Delete All This option allows you to delete y our contacts. Y ou may delete from All, Phone, or SIM card. T o delete entries: 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu soft key to access the menu. 2. Select Contacts and press the Select soft key or the key .
Contact s 84 Memory Status Y ou can check how many names a nd numbers are stored in the Phonebook, in both SIM card and the phone memory . Y ou can also see the capacity of both memories. Checking the Mem ory status Y ou can check how many names a nd numbers are stored in Ph one Book, in both the SIM card and phone’ s memory .
Contact s 85 Note: This option is available only when your SIM card supports Service Dialing Numbers. Samsung PC Studio Y our phone comes with Samsung’ s PC Studio 1.0 software, which allows you to transfer Contacts between your phone and a computer .
Settings 86 Settings Many different features of your phone can be cu stomized to suit your preference s. All of these feature s are accessed in the Settings menu ( Menu 9 ). Sound Settings Y ou can use the Sound Settings menu ( Menu 9.1 ) to cus tomize various settings, such as the: ♦ ring melody , volume and type.
Settings 87 Keypad T one This menu allows you to select th e tone and volume when you press the keypad. ♦ T one : Selects the type of keytone. ♦ Vol u m e : Thi s option allows you to adjust t he keypad vol ume.
Settings 88 Press the Up or D own navigation ke y to make s election. Press t he Select soft key or the key to save changes. T o turn off the sound, select Off . Quiet Mode This menu item allows you to sele ct how your phone will respond to calls, messages or alarms when it is in Quiet mode.
Settings 89 W allpaper This menu allows you to ch ange the displa y image for both the Ma in LCD and the Front LCD. The fo llowing options are available: Main LCD ♦ Download Graphics: connects you to the Internet to download new graphics. ♦ Default Wallpapers : allows you to select from the preloaded wallpapers.
Settings 90 through the selections. Press the Select soft key or the key to save selection. Skin Y ou can select a skin colour pattern for Menu mode. T o select a skin, select the pattern using the Up or Down navigation keys and press the Select soft key .
Settings 91 Dialing Display In this menu, you can se lect th e dialing font color . Choose Black or Rainbow . Press the Select soft ke y or the key to sa ve selection. Front LCD Y ou can turn the Front LCD display off or on. the display brightness to see it better in diffe rent lighting conditions.
Settings 92 Press the Se lect s oft key or th e key to save your T ime & Date settings. Note: Automat ic updates of time and date does not change the tim e you have set for alarm settings or calendar memos. Phone Settings Use this menu ( Menu 9.4 ) to configure the settings for how the phone operates.
Settings 93 Extra Settings Y ou can turn the automatic redialling or answering features on or off. The following options are available: ♦ Auto Redial : when this option is chec ked, the phone makes up to ten attempts to redial a phone num ber after an uns uccessful call.
Settings 94 Note: Th e TTY option is viewable only when inserting the TTY Adap tor into the headset jack on the left side of your phone. Use the following steps to access the TTY settings: 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu soft key to acce ss Menu mode, a nd select Se ttings .
Settings 95 1. Select a call diverting option by pressing the Up or Down navigation key , and then press the Select soft key . 2. Select the type of calls, Voice calls or Data calls , by pressing the Up or Down navigation key , and then press the Select soft key .
Settings 96 ♦ International: bars this phone from making calls to international numbers . ♦ International Except For Home: bars this phone from makin g international calls ex cept to home.
Settings 97 1. Select the type of ca lls, voice or data, to which you want to apply the call waiting option by pressing the Up or Down navigation key , and then press the Select soft key . The screen inf orms you whether call waiting is ac tivated or deactivated.
Settings 98 Y ou are connected to that network. Caller ID Y ou can prevent your phone numbe r from being displayed on the phone of the person being called. Note: Some networks do not allow the user to change this sett ing. The following options are available: ♦ Set by Network : the default se tti ng provided by the network is used.
