Introduction 5 Introduction Congratulations on your purchase of the Samsung SCH-a610 mobile phone. The SCH-a610 off ers many f eatures such as a large, high-resolution swiv el display , PIM (P ersonal Information Manager) fun c ti ons, a built-in digital camera with flash, voice activ ated applicatio ns, and more.
6 Underst and your phone Antenna A void touching the antenna while the phone is on. Contact with the antenna affects call quality and may cause the phone to operate at a higher power le vel than necessary .
Understand your phone 7 Power save mode Nor m ally , the LCD backlight is at full brightness, dims after a minute of inactivity , and then tur ns off. With Power save enabled, the backlight starts out dim, then tur ns off afte r 15 seconds of inactivity .
8 Right sof t key Functions for the right soft k ey ( ) are defined by what appears abov e it in the display . Some functions of the r ight soft ke y are as f ollows: • Press the right soft ke y ( ) Back to retur n to the standby mode from an y main menu.

Headset connector The headset connector is the input jack f or the optional hands-free head set. Th e headset includes an earbud and microphone in a convenient, lightweight unit so you can talk without using y our hands.
10 Microphone The microphone, located just beneath on the ke ypad, is used f or conv ersation, v oice setup, and recording vo ice memos. Alpha-Numeric keyp ad Use the alpha-numeric ke ypad to enter text, numbers , and special characters. Speaker The speaker , located on the front of the flip, pla ys sounds such as ring tones and a ler ts.

Understand your phone 13 1X Protocol : Indicates your phone is using the 1X protocol. The 1X protocol is capable of high-speed data (3G). IS95-2G Protocol : Indicates your phone is using the IS95- 2G protocol. This protocol is not capable of high speed data.
14 Swivel flip The flip (or folder) on your phone conv eniently rotates clockwise up to 180° so that you can screen callers , and ev en take pictures with the flip closed. • With the flip op en, rotate the display clockwise and close the flip . The display screen automatically orients itself to the new position.

Samsung accessor ies are designed to maximize batter y life. Using other accessories may invalidate your warranty and may ca use damage.

Calls 51 Call timer View the duration of y our last call, total calls, and calls made during the l ife of y our phone using the Call timer feature. Call timer is not for billing purp oses. 1. In standby mode, press the left soft ke y () Menu , then press , .
52 Caller ID Caller ID allows you to see who is calling you b y displaying the caller’ s number . If the ca ller’s name and number are stored in your Phone Book, the name also appears. If you’v e assigned a picture to the Phone Book entr y , the picture you’v e assigned appears in the display as well.

60 Sending picture messages in camera mode Picture messages can be sent to recipients with compatible phones or devices . Y ou can ev en accompany a picture message with a voice memo or pr eloaded sound. Tip : Y ou can send a picture message t o up to ten recipients.

64 Y ou can record and inser t a v oice memo of up to 30 seconds in length if you record first bef ore attaching a picture. If a picture is attached before recording, the size of the voice memo is limited to the amount of remaining memor y .
Messages 65 Create a slide show Add multiple slides to your picture messages to create a slide show for any one in y our Send to list. When the recipients view the picture message, the attached images are presented in the order and duration that hav e been pre-set by you.

Once you’v e added the desired number of slides, press the down na vigatio n key once to highlight the No Photo image, which resembles a film slide.

86 The Camera T ake full color dig ital pictures, display them on y our phone’ s vivid color display , and instantly share them with family and friends. It’ s fun, and as easy to use as a traditional point-and- click camer a – just take a picture, vie w it on the display , and send it to up to ten people, right from your phone.

The Camera 89 Other Camera features The camera has a Gallery for bro wsing stored pictures, a delay timer that allows you to put yourself in a picture, creative imaging f eatures for pi cture enhancement, and more. View t he Gallery Sav ed pictures are stored in the Gallery .
90 Fun Frame and Colo r T one are not initially visible in the pop-up menu. Use the navigation k ey to scroll down and view these menu items . 2. Use the navigation k ey to highlight Self Timer and press . The follo wing options appear in the display .

92 Change picture resolution Y ou can pre set the size of your pictures using the Resolution setting. Options are Hi gh , Medium , and Low . The camera will only take pictures in Low resolution mode (regardless of the resolution setting in the camera Settings sub menu) with Fun Fram es enabled.
The Camera 93 Choose Normal to disable Fun F rames. 3. Once the fun frame of your choice is highli ghted, press . Y ou’ re return ed to the Settings menu. 4. Now , any pictures that you take adopt the Fun Frame theme that you’v e selected. Be creative with Color T ones Change the look of your pictures with Color T ones .

Y ou’ re retur ned to the Se ttings menu. • When you tak e your next picture, the phone’ s displa y pre views your subject image with the selected color tone.
