If your machine is attached to a network, skip the following steps below and go on to installing a n etwork connected machine’s driver (see "Installing driver over th e network" on page 345).

46 2. Media and tray Loading originals You can use the scanner gla ss or the Dual scan document feeder (DSDF) to load an original for copying, scanning, and sending a fax.

Media and tray 2 In the Dual scan document feeder (DSDF) Preparing originals • Do not load paper smaller than 105 x 148 (4.13 x 5.85 inches) or larger than 216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14 inches). • Do not attempt to load the followin g types of paper, in order to prevent paper jam, low print qual ity, and machine damage.

50 2. Media and tray Selecting print media You can print on a variety of print media, such as plain paper, envelopes, labels, and transparencies. Always use print media that m eet the guidelines for use with your machine.
51 2. Media and tray Loading paper in the tray 4 Standard tray / optional Cassette Feeder with a Stand Load the print media you use for the majority of your pr int jobs into the standard tray. The standard tray ca n hold a maximum of 520 s heets of plain paper.

58 2. Media and tray Printing on special media The table below shows the availab le special media for each tray. The paper setting in the machine and dri ver should match to print without a paper mismatch error.
Printing on special media 59 2. Media and tray 7 Envelope Successful printing on envelopes depends upon the quality of the envelopes. To print an envelope, insert it with the flap facing up.
Printing on special media 60 2. Media and tray 8 Labels Load the paper with the side to be printed on facing down. To avoid damaging the ma chine, use only labels desi gned for use in laser machines.
Printing on special media 61 2. Media and tray 9 Card stock/ Custom-sized paper • Do not print on media smaller than 98 mm (3.8 inches) wide or 148 mm (5.8 inches) long. • In the software applicatio n, set margins to at least 6.4 mm (0.25 inches) away from the edges of the material.

Media and tray • Preprinted paper ink m ust be non-flammable and should not adversely affect machine rollers. • Forms should be sealed in a moistu re-proof wrapping to prevent changes during storage. • Before you load preprinted paper, verify that the ink used is compatible with Laser printers.
63 2. Media and tray Setting the paper size and type The paper setting in the machine and dri ver should match to print without a paper mismatch error. To change the paper setting set in the machine, from the Samsung Easy Printer Manager select (Switch to advanced mode) > Device Settings .
Setting the paper size and type 64 2. Media and tray • Paper Size: Allows you to change the paper size. - You can change the paper list on the display screen. The paper lists are divided into the available A/B type and letter type paper in this machine.
65 2. Media and tray Selecting an output location The surface of the center tray may be come hot if you print a large number of pages at once. Make sure that you do not touch the surface, and do not allow children near it. The machine sends output to the center tray by default.

An excla mation ma rk ( ) means you can select that certain option but it is not recommended, and ( ) mark means you cannot select that option du e to the machine’s setting or environment.

The screenshot may differ depending on model. 3 Basic tab Basic tab to set various printing options. Orientation This option allows you to select the direction in which information is printed on a page.

Finishing Options This option allows you to specify the staple. The Staple option is available only when the optional standard 2Bin Finisher installed .

Quality The higher the setting, the sharper the cl arity of printed characters and graphics. The higher setting also ma y increase the time it ta kes to print a document.

Output options • Print Order: This options allows you to set the sequence in which the pages will print.
Opening printing preferences 75 3. Printing 8 Eco tab The Eco tab allows you to save print reso urces and lead you to eco-friendly printing. When you select Eco Printing , you can see the eco image ( ) on some options. Also, some options are no t available to use in the eco mode.
Opening printing preferences 76 3. Printing 10 Print Mode This option allows you to ch oose how to print or save the printing file by using the HDD in your machine. The default Print Mode is Normal which is for printing without storing th e printing file on the HDD.

Printing 1 Change the settings as needed on each tab. 2 Enter a name for the item in the Favorites input box. 3 Click Save . 4 Enter name and description, and then select the desired icon. 5 Click OK . When you save Favorites , all current driver settings are saved.

Using special print features 79 3. Printing 14 Printing posters This feature allows you to print a single-page document onto 4, 9, or 16 sheets of paper, for the purpose of pasting the sheets together to form one poster-size document.
Using special print features 80 3. Printing The Booklet Printing option is not available for all paper sizes. In order to find out the available paper size for th is feature, select the available paper size in the Original size opti on on the Paper tab.

For example, you use it when you want to have large gray letters reading “ DRAFT ” or “ CONFIDENTIAL ” printed diagonal ly ac ross the first page or all pages of a document.

Using special print features 84 3. Printing 20 Using overlay This option is available only when you use the PCL printer driver. What is an overlay? An overlay is text and/or images stored on the compu ter hard drive (HDD) as a special file format that ca n be printed on any docume nt.
Using special print features 85 3. Printing Using a page overlay After an overlay has been cr eated, it is ready to be printed with yo ur document. To print an overlay with a document: 1 Create or open the docume nt you want to print.
86 3. Printing Using Direct Printing Utility This chapter explains how to use Direct Printing Utilit y to print PDF files without open the files. • HDD should be installed on your ma chine, to print PDF files using this program. • You cannot print PDF files that are restricted to print.

88 3. Printing Changing the default print settings Most Windows applications will override settings you specify in the printer driver. Change all print settings available in the software application first, and change any remaining settings using the printer driver.

Set the frequently used printing settings. This feature can be useful if yo ur company has a specific printing form.

If you cannot use the optional devices you installed in this driver, you can set th e optional devices in Device Options .

This section explains ho w to print using a Mac. 26 Printing a document When you print with a Mac, you need to check the prin ter driver setting in each application you use.

Before printi ng in the duplex mode, decide on which edge you will be binding your finished document. The binding options are, as follows: • Long-Edge Binding: This option is the conven tional layout used in book binding.

Printing 33 Configuring printer properties You can change the default printing opt ions or connection type with a printing utility supplied by O/S. 1 Launch Printing utility(Go to System > Administration > Printing menu or execute " system-config-printer " command in Terminal program).

101 4. Copying Understanding the copy screen When you tap Copy from the home screen or Apps , the Copy screen appears. This screen has several ta bs and many copying opt ions. All the options are grouped by feature so you can configure your selections easily.
Understanding the copy screen 102 4. Copying 2 Copy tab Preview Display the originals type. Changing Darkness You can adjust the darkness level of a copy if needed for easier reading if the original contains faint markings or dark images. Adjust the darkness level using the control bar.

You can also tap and hold a menu icon to move it to a different position or tap Clear All to remove all the menus.

Understanding the copy screen 108 4. Copying Prints the IP Address , ID , Device Information , Comment , Page Number or Date & Time on printouts. You can set the Text Size , Opacity or Position of the stamp.
Understanding the copy screen 109 4. Copying Background Adjustment This option allows you to compensate fo r originals that contain color in the background, such as newspap ers or catalogs. You can use the options in this menu to make the copi es easier to read.
110 4. Copying Basic copy This is the usual procedure to copy your original documents. 1 Tap Copy from the home screen or Apps . 2 Place the originals face up in the DSDF or place a si ngle original face down on the scanner glass and close th e DSDF (see "Loa ding originals" on page 46).
111 4. Copying Using the Quick Copy menu The Quick Copy menu allows you to quickly set common copy options without having to open a lower level menu or an other tab. However, this menu does not offer every copy option available. 1 Tap Quick Copy from the home screen or Apps .
112 4. Copying ID card copying Your machine can print 2- sided originals on one sheet. The machine prints one side of the original on the upper half of the paper an d the other side on th e lower half without reducing the size of the original. This feature is helpful for copying a smal l-sized item such as business card.
ID card copying 113 4. Copying 5 Turn the original over and place it on the scanner glass where arrows indicate as shown. Then , close the scanner lid. 6 Tap . Your machine begins sc anning the back side. • If you do not press the button, only the front side will be copied.

If this happens, you can temporarily improve print qual ity by redistributing the remaining toner in the cart ridge.
