4 5 SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES FOR PRUNER USE n Kickback is a dange rous reac tion that can le ad to serious injury. Kickback may occur when the moving chain con- tacts an object at the upper portion of the tip of the guide bar or when the wood closes in and pinches the chain in the cut.
4 5 SYMBOLS Gasoline and Oil Use unleaded gasoline intended for motor vehicle use with an octane rating of 87 [(R + M)/2] or higher . This product is power ed by a 2-cycle engine and requir es pre-mixing gasoline and 2-cycle oil. Some of the following symbols may be used on this tool.

8 9 UNP ACKING This product r equires assembly . n Carefully remove the tool and any accessories from the box. Make sure that all items listed in the packing list are included. n Inspect the tool carefully to make sure no breakage or damage occurred during shipping.
8 9 WARNING: T o prevent accidental starting that could cause serious personal injury , always disconnect the engine spark plug wire fr om the spark plug when assembling parts.
10 11 ASSEMBL Y CHAIN OILER Add bar and chain oil in the chain oiler tank before starting the engine of the power head. FUELING AND REFUELING FUEL MIXTURE This product is pow ere d by a 2-cycle engine and requir es pre- mixing gasoline and 2-cycle oil.
10 11 OPERA TION WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you care- less. Remember that a careless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict serious injury . WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields, a har d hat, and safety shoes when operating tools.
12 13 Fig. 8 n Work slowly, keeping both hands on the saw with a firm grip. Maintain secure footing and balance. n Keep the tree between you and the chain while limbing. Cut from side of tree opposite branch you are cutting. � n Do not cut from a ladder; this is extremely dangerous.
12 13 OPERA TION Always operate trimmer at full throttle. Cut tall grass from the top down. This will prevent grass from wrapping around the shaft housing and string head which could cause damag e fr om overhea ting. If gra ss bec omes wrapped ar ound the string head, STOP THE ENGINE, disconnect the spark plug wire, and r emove the grass.

16 17 MAINTENANCE REPLACING THE BAR See Figures 19 - 24. WARNING: T o avoid possible serious injury , stop engine before re- placing the bar , chain, or performing any maintenance operation. n Remove the bar nut and drivecase cover. n The bar cont ains a bar st ud sl ot tha t fit s over the bar stu d.
16 17 Fig. 26 REMOVE CAP REPLACE CAP CHAIN OILER T ANK IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT See Figure 25. If the chain tur ns at idle, the idle speed screw needs ad- justing on your trimmer engine. T ur n the idle speed screw counterclockwise to reduce the idle RPM and stop the chain movement.
18 19 MAINTENANCE CHAIN MAINTENANCE See Figure 27. For smooth and fast cutting, the chain needs to be main- tained properly . The following conditions indicate that the chain requir es sharpening: n W.
18 19 CAUTION: Dull or improperly sharpened chain can cause excessive engine speed during cutting which may result in severe engine damage. WARNING: Improper chain sharpening increases the potential of kickback. Failur e to replace or repair damaged chain can cause serious injury .
20 21 MAINTENANCE STRING REPLACEMENT See Figures 34 - 36. Use only monofilament string. Use original manufacturer’ s replacement string for best performance. n Stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug wire. Hold the string head and unscrew the spool r etainer .
20 21 Fig. 37 Fig. 38 MAINTENANCE CLEANING THE EXHAUST POR T AND MUFFLER Depending on the type of fuel used, the type and amount of oil used, and/or your operating conditions, the exhaust port and muffler may become blocked with carbon deposits.
