5 POWER SOUR CES USING AC POWER To pow er the CD-3316 from standa r d AC power, plug the supplied A C pow er cord i nto the AC IN j ack, t hen pl ug the other end into a standard AC outlet. Note : T he CD-3316 aut omatically dis- connects intern al batteries when you connect the AC power cord.
6 USING YO UR CAR BA TTER Y You can power the CD-3316 f r om your car battery using a DC-to-AC Inverter (such as Radio Shack C at. No. 22-132, not supp lied). Cautio ns : • Always plug the AC powe r cord into AC IN and the i nverter before you plug th e inverter into t he cig a- rette lighter s ocket.
7 RADIO OPERA T ION Warnin g : To protect yo ur hearing, set VOLUME to its l owest se tti ng bef ore you turn on the radio. 1. Set FUNCTION to RADI O to t u rn o n the radio. T he POWER ind icat or ligh ts. 2. Set BAND to FM or AM . 3. Adjust TUNING to t he desired s ta- tion.

10 6. T o remove the CD, press PUSH/ OPEN after the CD s tops turning. Cautio n : Rem ove a loaded CD b efore you move the CD-3 316 to prevent pos- sible damage to the CD o r the CD play- er.
11 CASSE TTE P LA YER OPE RA TION LOADING A CASSETTE TA P E Note : Take up any slack in the tape by turning the hu b with a pe nc il. If you do not remove exces s slack, the tape might become tangled in the record/ playback mecha nism. Avoid touching the tape.
12 RECORDING A CASSETTE T APE You can record from the CD player or radio. Notes : • Before recording, b e sure the erase-protection tabs are in place on the cassette tape you are recording onto. • Before you load a cassette tape for recordi ng, turn the cassette’s hub with you r finger or a pencil to move the tape past its leader .
13 5. Press RECORD t o begin record- ing. Note : Y ou might hear a lo w-vol- ume tone from th e CD-3316’s speakers during pla yback after you record an AM radio program. T o ins ure a t one-free recordi ng, make a test recording before you record the de sired program .
14 • Remov e all input sources so you ca n record silence over all or part of the tape. • Use a b ulk tape eraser (such as Cat. No. 44-232, not supplied), available at your local Radio Sh a ck st or e.
15 USING HEADP HONES For privat e listen ing, you can use a pair of stereo headphones (not sup- plied) with an 1/8-inch plug. Your local Radio Shac k store carries a wide se- lection of stereo headphon es. To connect the headp hones, insert the headphones ’ 1/8-inch plug into the PHONES j ack.
