2 Read this First ˆ Read this First This audio system is made and tested to meet exacting safety stan- dards. It meets bo th UL and FC C requirements. Warnings: • This system employs a laser light beam. Only a qualified service person should remove the cover or attempt to service this device, due to possible eye injury .
3 Read this First MAKING CABLE CONNECTIONS Be careful not to bend cables over the top of the receiver. If cables are placed on top of the receiver, the magnetic field pro d- cued by the receiver’s tran sformers can cause the spe akers to pro- duce a humming noise .

7 Preparation ˆ Preparation CONNECTING COMPONENTS You must connect a TV to the receiver in orde r to use the receiver’s DVD player. You can conne ct other audio and audio/visua l compo- nents to the receiver in order to use the Home Th eater Audio Sys- tem’s surround sound capabili ties.
8 Preparation Connect the loop antenna’s wi res to AM and GND . Place the antenn a in a location (for e xample, on a shelf or windo w frame) that gives th e best reception. Keep the antenna as far away as possible from the entire system, speaker cords and the powe r cord to prevent unwanted noise.
9 Receiver Operation ˆ Receiver Operation A QUICK LOOK AT THE RECEIVER ’ S CONTROLS DISC 1, 2, 3 – Press to open or close the disc trays. Note: You cannot use these but- tons in tuner mode. DISC SKIP/TUNING MODE – Press to skip discs in DVD/CD mode.
10 Receiver Operation USING THE T UNER 1. Press POWER . The receive r defaults to the last selected fu nction. 2. Rotate FUNCTION to the tuner function. 3. Press BAND to select the desired ba nd. 4. Repeatedly press TUNING/PRESET )ý )ý )ý )ý # # # # or ,ý- ,ý- ,ý- ,ý- to tune in the desired station.
11 Receiver Operation To move forward throu gh a track , hold down TUNING/PRESET ,- ,- ,- ,- for about 2 seconds. Repeat up to two times to increase the fast-forward spe ed. T o resume playba ck, press PL A Y . Note: At the beginning or end of a track on an audio CD, the scan speed returns to normal.

13 Remote Control Operation SETTING UP THE SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM You can use your Home The ater Audio System as soon as you take it out of the packaging. If you wish to fine-tune the system (for ex ample, substitute different speakers or al ter the sound distribution), follow th e directions below.

15 Remote Control Operation Auto Preset 1. Press BAND to select the desired ba nd. 2. Hold down MEMORY for about 3 seconds. 3. The tuner automatically begins scannin g, and stores the first 30 strong signals it receives. 4. Scanning stops automati cally after radio stations have been stored in the auto preset memory .
16 Remote Control Operation Programming T racks This function allows you to program up to 32 tracks for playback in any desired order. This functio n only operates with audi o CDs (not DVDs). Note: The disc must be recognized by the receiver, so play the disc for a little while after loading, then prog ra m it.
17 DVD Player Operation ˆ DVD Player Operation BASIC PLAYBACK 1. Press POWER . The last selected function appears. 2. If necessary , press the re mote’s DVD or rotate the receiver ’s FUNCTION until DVD appears. 3. Press DISC 1 , DISC 2 , or DISC 3 to open the desired disc tray .
18 DVD Player Operation Skipping Chapters To skip forward, press TUNING/PRESET - - - - . The receiver skips for- ward one chapter each time the button is pressed. To skip backward, press TUNIN G/PRES ET ) ) ) ) . If you press TUNING/ PRESET ) ) ) ) once midway through a chapter, the receiver returns to the beginning of that chapter.
19 DVD Player Operation Press MENU during play. The DVD menu available on the disc now appears. Pressing RETURN resu mes play from the scene when MENU was first pressed. Note: The resume play option might not be possible on certain discs. Press the remote’s 8 8 8 8 , 9 9 9 9 , 6 6 6 6 , or 7 7 7 7 , then ENTER .

Notes: • Some titles do not match with the rating level describe d as above. • If you change the leve l and enter a pa ssword, playback of all DVDs with ratings higher than your selection will be blocked, unless you enter the correct p assword again.
21 Troubleshooting ˆ T roubleshooting This receiver has bee n manufactured to th e specifications of RadioShack and is covered b y a limited warranty from RadioShack. I f your receiv- er is not operating as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store or call 1-800-THE-SHACK for assistance.
22 Troubleshooting If the receiver does not operate normally due to external effects such as static electricity, discon nect the power plug from th e outlet and insert again to return to normal operating co nditions. CARE Keep the receiver dry; if it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.
