4 PREPARATION CONNECTING POWER You can po wer the ra dio from stan dard AC power using the s upplied powe r cord, wi th batteries (not supp lied), o r from yo ur vehi cle’s c igarette -lig hter socket (using an opti onal DC ada pter). Caution: C onnecting the rad io to AC or vehicl e battery power dis connects any internal batteries.
5 Using Batteries You can pow er t he radi o w ith four D b at- teries (not s upplied). Fo r the best perf or- mance a nd lo ngest life, w e re commend RadioShac k alka line batte ries. Cautions: • Use only fresh b atteries of the required si ze and reco mmended type.
6 Using V ehicle Battery Power You can power th e radio from a vehi - cle’s 1 2V pow er so urce ( such as ciga- ret te-l ight er so cket ) usi ng a 9V, 50 0 mA DC adapter (n ot suppl ied) ava ilable at your lo cal Ra dioSh ack sto re. Cautions: Y ou mus t use a power source tha t sup pli es 9V DC and deli vers at least 5 00 mA.
7 CONNECTING THE WI RE ANTENNA Besides the DIRECTION FINDER anten - na and the buil t-in teles coping an tenna, the radi o comes with a se parate wi re an- tenna (abo ut 10 feet long) for re ception when yo u listen to the shortwa ve bands ( SW or SW2 ).
