12 Fence to T a ble Clearance 1. Chec k the cl earance bet w een the t able and the bot tom of the f ence (Figure 10) . The f ence should not rub against t he tabl e surf ace but be sl ightly abov e i t. Thi s gap should be t he same at the front o f t he tabl e as it is at t he bac k.
13 4. Use a gauge to caref ull y measure t he dist ance f ro m m iter sl ot to str aight edge. Tak e measurem ents at bot h f r ont and back of t ab l e – these should be t he sam e.
14 Dust Coll ection The use of a du st col lec tion system i s s t rongly recom mended f o r this band s a w . It will hel p keep t he shop clean, as well as reduce potent i al healt h hazards cau s ed by i nhalat ion of w ood dust. T he collec tor should hav e a capacity suffi cient f or this size m ach i ne – 400 CFM is recom mended.
15 Ext ensi on C o rd s The use of e xt ensi on c or ds i s di scouraged; try t o posit ion the m achine wit hin r each of the power source. I f an ext ension cord bec omes necessary, make sure t he cord rating is suit able f or the am perage li sted on the m achi ne’s mot or plat e.

Aft er bei ng properly t ens i oned, the bl ade m ust be tr acked. “Tr acking” ref ers to the position of the bl ade on t he wheel s w hi le t he machi ne is i n operat ion. T racking shoul d be checked peri odically , and is m andat ory after ev er y blade change.

27 Resawing Resawing i s the pr ocess of sli cing stock t o reduce i ts thic kness , or to produc e boards that are t hinner t han the ori g i nal workpi ece, such as v eneers. The i deal blade f or resawing i s the wide s t one the m achine can handle, as the wider the blade the bet t er it can hold a strai ght l i ne.

Failure to comp ly may cause seriou s inju ry. Clean t he band sa w regular ly t o remov e any resinous de po sit s and sawdust.
29 Blade S election Using t he proper blade f or the job will incr eas e the oper ating ef fi ciency of your band saw, help reduce nec essary saw mai ntenance, and im pr o v e your pr oduc t iv ity. Thus, i t is im portant t o f o ll ow cer tai n guideli nes w hen select ing a saw blade.
