Introduction 1 - 5 Management Features The 6400- S is con figured an d managed through the Conf iguratio n Menu, a web-based Graphical User Interface. Access the Configuration Menu by entering a URL in a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Firefox.

2 - 1 2 Installing the 6400-S Physical Installation 1 Anchor the equipment ra ck that will contain th e 6400. The equipment rack must be anchored to an unmovable support to prevent it from fallin g over when one or more syst ems are extend ed in front of the rack on slides.

Configuring Network S ettings 4 - 3 T o configure provider interface settings: 1. In the navigatio n bar, select Network 2. In Provider Interface Settings, select Static IP Address (the most common config uration) , or DHCP i f a DHCP se rver assign s the 640 0-S's i nternal address.
User G uide V 2 IU 6400-S Converged Network Applianc e 4 - 4 If needed, configure the rate of the physical Ethernet port on the 640 0-S. The default setting for the Ethernet port is autonegotiate, and it applies to both the link speed and duplex with locally at tached devices.
Configuring Network S ettings 4 - 5 5. Press Submit. Configuring the Network Use network setting s to configure the default gateway address, and the primary and second ary DNS servers. Packets destined for IP addresses not known to the 6400-S are forwarded to the Default Gatewa y for handling.

5 - 1 5 Configuring V oIP An application- layer gateway provides bas ic proxy features for voice and video over IP traff ic. Serving as an ALG proxy , the 6400-S provides Netw ork Address Translation (NAT) services for the protected softswitch, gatekeeper or other media devices.

Administrative O ptions 7 - 7 Running a ping test The Ping Test is the mos t common test used to verify basic connectivity to a networking device. Successful pin g test results indicat e that both physic al and logical path connection s exist between the 6400-S and the test IP address.
