13 Remote con trol For best results, aim the remote control directly at the front of the GPS within about 15 feet, within a 60-degree arc, and with no obs tacles between the rem ote control and the remote sensor . Not used in GPS mode. For more information, see “Playi ng DVDs ” on page 52.

16 Setting up the sy stem Installing the re mote control battery 1. Pull the battery holder out of the rem ote cont rol in the direct i on of the arrow . 2. Load a new battery with the (+) side up. 3. Slide the battery holder back into the remote control.
17 Connecting po wer Using the AC power adapter The GPS has an AC adapter included for powering the GPS and charging the batter y . 1. Connect the AC adapter to the right side of the GPS in the jack marked DC 12V IN. 2. P lug the two-prong end of the pow er cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
18 Using the DC power cord The GPS has a DC pow er cord (car adapt er) f or powering the GPS while in a vehicle. 1. Connect the car adapter (DC power cord) to the right side of the GPS in the jack marked DC 12V IN.
19 • Do not open the battery . • When charging the battery pack, the charge light turns red. When charging is complete, t he light turns green. • Detach the battery when it is not in use. • When the battery is weak, the battery low icon appears on t he LCD screen.
20 Charging the battery The battery must be attached to the GPS to be recharged. 1. Att ach the ba ttery to the GPS. 2. Plug the supplied AC power adapter or DC power cord into the GPS’s “DC 12V IN” power jack (on the right side of the GPS).
21 Installing the system i n your car Use the windshield mount brack et to mount the GPS in your car . 1. Loosen the nuts on the bracket hinges. 2. Slide the mounting cradle ont o the bracket’s rotating head until it’s locked in to place .
22 Connecting ext ernal audio and video • Always make sure that the GPS, TV , and any other electrical equipment to be connected are turned off and unplugged from the power supply . • Make sure that you observe the color codi ng when connect i ng audi o and video cables.
23 Connecting to an amplifier 1. See your audio equipment’s documentation for connecting the GPS. 2. Connect your GPS as shown in the diagram below .
24 Connecting to an external v ideo source Y ou can connect this GPS to an A V si gnal source such as a video cass ette player , video camera, or video gam e. 1. Connect the audio/ video cable to the GPS A V In jack and to t he external A V signal source.
25 Connecting to head phones 1. Connec t the headphones to the he adphone jack on the right side of the GPS for private listening. When headphones are connected, the speakers autom atical l y turn off.
26 Changing sys tem settings 1. Press the SETUP button on the GPS. The screen w ill display a menu, as shown below: 2. In the menu, tap one of the six submenus: o T ap to adjust the volume. o T ap to adjust bright ness. o T ap t o adjust the c ontrast.

29 Using the Main Me nu 1. T ap Menu on the map to enter the m ain menu. The main map menu opens. 2. T ap Go T o A ddress to ent er an address and create a route to an address. 3. T ap M y Favorites , Recent Locations , o r Gas, Foo d, Lodgin g, etc. to sele ct a d estina tion fro m a list .
30 Using the front knob control The knob on the front of your GPS can perfor m several f unctions, depending on the active GPS mode. GPS mode Knob function Map Zoom the map i n (rotate cl ockwis e) an d out (r otate counte r-clock wise). Menu Scroll t hrough l ists and menus.
31 3. T ap Enter to select the state (or Canada) and open the Cit y screen, then enter names the same way you did in the previous st ep. 4. T ap Enter to select the city and op en the Street screen, then enter names the same way you did in the previous steps.
32 Setting search order fo r entering addre sses 1. T o change t he order in which address inf orm ation is entered, tap the Search By button after you have entered a state. The Sear ch By screen opens. 2. T ap Cit y -Street to searc h for an address by entering in the sequence of city , st reet, then t he number .
33 3. In the driving list, tap Route to see the route overvie w . The overview shows inform at ion about the current route, including the distance, the time to travel, and the destinat i on address. The ic on represents the route origin and the icon represents the destinat i on.
34 Driving demo 1. Instead of tapping Go at the end of your address entry , tap the Demo button to run a demonstration of navigat ing the currently selected rout e in the map view . When nearing each turn, a vis ual notice and a voice prompt will infor m you about the direction change.
35 4. If you need to reset the point of origin, tap the map screen to open the dial og, then sel ect Set A s Origin . All new route calcul ations will use this as the starting point, but only if you do not have a GPS signal (typic ally only indoors). In Navigation Mode, your c urrent GPS location is always your origin.
36 3. T o rest rict the area in which the POI is searched for , tap Near , set the search radius, then tap Done . Y ou can also choose t o search near where you are (Current Location) or near your des t i nati on if you have set a navigation rout e. 4.
37 Navigating to a recent location The Recent Locations list all ows you to select an existing dest i nation from a list of previousl y traveled or ent ered address es or POIs.
38 Using Favorites Saving a Favorite When selecti ng a Desti nation which you may us e regularly , you can save it to your personalized Favorit es list. Method one: 1. On the map, tap any point in the map screen. A context menu appears. 2. T ap A dd T o M y Favorites .
39 Method t w o: 1. T ap a POI, t hen tap A ctions . The Actions menu opens. 2. T ap A dd to M y Favorites . 3. In the Favorites editing m enu, use the on-screen keyboard to type the name for the Favorite and select the Favorite group to add it to. 4.
40 Navigating to a Favorite Y ou can select a destinati o n from your list of stored Favorites . A Favor ite is an address or dest ination previous ly stored by you for quick and easy retrieval . Y ou can also save, edit, or delet e destinations from this folder .
41 Map o ptions Y ou can customize your map view with s everal rout e and map options. 1. In the main menu, tap Map O p tion s . The map options menu opens. The Map Options menu provides choices for dis pl ay mode, avoiding roads, displaying your driving direc tions, a rout e overview , playing and recording a rout e.
42 Day and night modes 1. I n the Map Options menu, tap Day Mode or Night Mode to choo se between the two color sc hemes for viewing maps. Day mode is the brightest displ ay , and uses white and yellow . Night Mode is the darkest displa y , but shows streets and landmarks in bright colors, which is best for nighttime navi gation.
43 3. T ap Next to list all the roads in a highlighted group. 4. T o spec ify restrictions for a particular road, highl i ght it and tap A llow or Av o i d . 5. T o previ ew a highlight ed road on the map sc reen, tap A ctions and selec t Show on the map .
44 Settings Y ou can easily change the default settings of maps, views, and route parameters to suit your personal pref erenc es. 1. Fro m t he m ap, tap Men u , Map Options , then tap Settings . The Settings m enu opens. 2. T ap More for addi tional settings options.
45 Route Sel ect Faster or Short er for your desi r ed route. For dri ving, th e Faster setting us uall y selects the best rout e and optimi zes the use of highwa ys while minim i zing unnecessa ry turns.
46 2. T o define your hom e loc ation, you c an ent er an address or the nearest POI. For example, you can enter your home address here for quick navigat i on. When you select T o Nearest POI Category , you can, f or exam ple, locate the closest gast station each time you tap the Home icon on the right side of the map screen.
47 Setting language, voice, and appearance 1. In the Settings menu, tap Look & Feel . The Look & Feel m enu opens. 2. Change settings f or l anguage text and voic e gui dance t o select between English , Spa ni sh , and French for on-screen text and voice guidanc e.
48 Setting trav el modes 1. T ap More in the Setting s menu, the screen will disp lay as below: 2. In the menu, tap Pedestrian Mode or V ehicle Mode . In Pedestri an Mode, the navigati on radius is rest ricted to 6 miles (10 kilom eters ) and some functions are not available, such as Turn by T urn, Avoid Roads, and Route overview .
49 2. The scroll list sh ows the list of e xisting trip s. If this i s the first ti me you are using Multistop Planner , you w ill need to create a Multistop route to store your trip details. Y ou can use any name. For ex ample, you can enter My trip plan .
50 7. When you’re done adding stops, tap Show or Next to see t he Multist op plan overview in the map. No route is calculated yet. Note : In this procedure, the icon represents the hi ghlighted stop in the plan list, not a destination. 8. T ap Go to navigate from the origin to t he stop w ith thi s multi stop plan.

52 Playing DVDs Read the following inst ruct i ons carefully bef ore using the GPS with DVD player for the first time. For informat i o n on caring for your DVDs, see “Caring for discs ” on page 4. WA RNI NG : Do not play poor-qualit y discs to avoid damagi ng the lens.

55 T o set up your DVD system: 1. While the player is in DVD mode, press the SETUP bu tton on th e remote cont rol. The SYSTEM SETUP menu opens. 2. Press or (direction buttons) to select a submenu that you want to set up, then press to enter that submenu.
56 Digit al Setup 1. While the player is in DVD mode, press the SETUP bu tton on th e remote cont rol to open the SYSTEM SETUP menu, t hen press to open t he DIGIT AL SETUP menu. 2. Press or (direction buttons) to select a submenu that you want to set up, then press to enter that submenu.
57 Play ing audio CDs When a CD disc is loaded, the pla yer will play it automatically by the default sequence of the disc. Y ou can use , , or number button s to sele ct a cert ain trac k to pla y . For information on caring for your CDs, see “Caring for discs ” on p age 4.

62 The p layer has poor A V performa nce. The disc is dirt y or wa rped. Clean o r change the disc . Some ob structions are betwee n the rem ote cont rol and the pl ayer. Remove the obstr ucti ons to clear the l ine of sig ht. The rem ote contr ol isn’t pointed at the pl ayer.
