6 Installing the Router Place th e F rameSav e r DSL 9783 Router o n a flat s urf ace , with clea ranc e f or the rear connec tors. Proce dur e 1. Use th e suppli ed 8-pin D SL net work cab le (f o r use in the U .S.), or a 6-pin DSL network cab le ( using co nnecto rs sim ilar to RJ 11), as ap plica bl e, f or the DSL connec tion.
7 3. Use an 8-pin Ethe r net cab le for the Ethe r net connec tion. Inser t one end of the cab le into the jac k labeled ETHERNET . — Use a straigh t-throug h cab le to connect t he othe r end o f the cab le to a n Ethernet hub .
8 4. Use a VT100-com patib le as ynchr onous terminal or PC t o set up m anageme nt access t o the unit. Ins er t the D B25 end of the EIA-23 2 cab le in to the route r ’ s COM port. Tighten the s cre ws on e ach s ide of the co nnect or . Insert the other end into th e terminal or PC .
9 5. Insert the suppli ed po wer cord ’ s round end into the ja c k labele d PO WER . Plug the tra nsf ormer into an A C outlet. Install the su pplied tie w rap fo r stra in reli ef , as show n. Install ation o f the hardw are i s no w compl ete. Wh en the pow er co rd is ins talled, the router goes thro ugh a p ow er-on self- test.

11 T roubleshooting LED Sym ptom Action All LEDs are on. If the LE Ds rem ain on f or mo re than ten mi nute s, the rou ter is not funct ional. Unplug the rout er and reap ply po w er . If the ALM LED is still on, co ntact t he service pro vide r . ALM LED only remains on.
12 Conf igurat ion Setup Once t he route r is inst alled, it can be acce ssed locally through the men u-driv en use r interf ac e via an asynch ronous terminal or PC con nection, or remo tely via a T elnet sessi on, and the router ’ s int erfaces ca n be pr ovisi o ned .
