7 Chapter 1: Intr oduction Overview Thank you for choosi ng the Thecus IP S torage NA S Server. The Thecus IP storage i s an easy-to-u se storage server that al lows a ded icated approach to storin g and distribu ting dat a on a network. Data reli ability is ensured wi th RAID fea tures that provide data security an d recovery.
8 With the Thecus IP stora ge’s Pri nter Server, y ou can ea sily sh are an IPP pri nter with other PCs con nected t o your netw ork. 15 Chapter 2: Har dw are Inst allation Overview Your Thecus IP st orage is desi gned for easy i nstallati on. To h elp you get st arted, the followin g chapter wil l help you qu ickly get your Thecus IP sto rage up and runni ng. Please read i t carefull y to prevent d amagin g your uni t during in stallation.
16 2. Install HDD on the tray, as the foll owin g chart: 3. Install the tray with HDD in to N0204 mi niNAS, please note th at the HD D-1 is i n left side and HDD-2 is i n righ t side. The trian gular symbol of tray must be correspon ding wi th the trian gular symbol of back panel.

18 N2200: To connect th e N2200 t o your netwo rk, foll ow the steps below: 1. Connect an Ethernet cable from y our networ k to the LAN port on the ba ck panel of the N2200. 2. Connect th e provided p ower cord i nto the powe r socket on the back pa nel.
19 N2200PLUS: To connect th e N2200PL US to your n etwork, fol low the steps b elow: 1. Connect an Ethernet cable from y our networ k to the WAN port on the bac k panel of the N2200PLUS . 2. Connect th e provided p ower cord i nto the powe r socket on the back pa nel.
20 Chapter 3: First Time Setup Once th e hardw are i s install ed, ph ysicall y connected to your network, a nd powered on, you can c onfi gure the Thecu s IP storage s o th at it is acc essibl e to your netw ork users.
21 5. Please select your in stallati on mode, One Click Install ation or Manu al Installation . 6. After your in stalled HDDs are det ected, s elect your d esired RA ID l evel. Press Next to cont inu e. 7. The N0204/N2200 wi ll automati cally create seve ral folders.
22 8. Complete the N0204/N2 200 Smart Uti lity Wi zard. A. You can ac cess the N 0204/N2 200 Web Adm inist rator interface by cli cking the Start Brower butto n. The default password is “ admin ”. You can also setup a b ackup task at t his point by clicki ng the Setup backup task b utton.
23 C. Pr ess the Setup backup task button to config ure backup tasks on your N0204/N220 0. Single T ask Quick Backup : Perfo rm a si ngle backup by selecting the source and desti nation. NOTE The Thecus S mart Utility Wizard is des igned for in stallation on systems runnin g Windows XP /2000/7 or Mac OSX or l ate r.
24 Manually Backup and T ask List : Show all task informati on and opt ions. Thecus Setup Wi zard (N2200PLUS) The hand y Thecu s Setup Wi zard makes configu ring N2200PLU S a snap. To configu re the N2200PLUS usin g the Setup Wi zard, perform the foll owing steps: 1.
25 3. The S etup Wiza rd will start an d automati cally dete ct all Thecus storage devices on you r network. If none are f ound, pl ease check your conn ecti on and refer to Ch apter 7: Trou bleshootin g for a ssistance. 4. Select the N2 200PLUS t hat you li ke to config ure.
26 7. Change the d efault ad mini strator password. 8. Fi nished! Access th e N2200 PLUS Web Admi ni strator Interface by pr essing the Start Bro wser butt on. You can al so confi gure anothe r N2200PLUS at this poin t by cli cking the Setu p Oth er Dev ice b utton.
27 3. The USB L ED show Blinking Green: Copy activity. Solid Green: Copy Success. Solid Red: Copy Fail. N2200: 1. Plug your USB device i nto an avai lable USB p ort on the Front Panel. 2. Press the “ US B Copy But ton”. 3. The N2200 w ill start copyi ng USB d isks conn ected to th e f ront USB p ort.
28 Typical Setup Pro cedure From the Web Ad min istration Interfac e, you can begi n to setup your Thecus IP storage for use o n your network. Setting u p the Thecus IP storage typicall y follows the five steps outlin ed below. For more on ho w to use t he Web Admi ni stration Interface, see Chapter 4: Web Adm inistration Interface .

30 Chapter 4: S ystem Administra tion Overview The Thecus IP storage p rovides an easil y accessi ble Web Administr ation Interface . With i t, you can config ure and monitor th e Thecu s IP storage an ywhere on the netwo rk. Web Administrati on Interface Make sure your network is connect ed to the Int ernet.

32 To return to the favorite screen, si mply cli ck “My Favorite” l ocated at the l eft hand corner of the main screen. Menu Bar The Menu B ar is where you will find all of the i nformation sc reens and system settings of Th ecus IP st orage.
33 Message Bar You can get i nformation about system status qu ickly by movi ng mouse ov er. Message Bar Item Status Description RAID Informat ion. Display th e sta tus of created RAID vol ume. Cli ck to go to RAID informati on page as short cut. Disks Informat ion.
34 System Informatio n Information pr ovides viewi ng on cur rent Product i nfo, System Statu s, Ser vice Status and Logs. The m enu ba r al lows yo u to see variou s asp ects of the Thecu s IP storage. From here, you can disc over the sta tus of the Th ecus IP st orage, and also other detail s.
35 Service Stat us Item Description AFP Status The status o f the Apple Filing Proto col server. NFS Status The status of the Netw ork Fi le Service Server . SMB/CIFS St atus The status o f the SMB/C IFS server . FTP Status The status o f the FTP se rver.
36 Sort Descending Shows logs by date in descending order. |<< < > >>| Use the forward ( > >>| ) and backward ( |<< < ) b uttons to browse the log pages.
37 Notification configuration From the m enu, choose the Notification item, and the Notific ation Configuration screen ap pears. Thi s screen l ets you have th e IP STORAGE noti fy you in case o f any syste m mal function. Press Apply to confirm al l settin gs.
38 Schedule Power On/Off (N0204/N220 0) Using the Thecus IP stora ge System Manag ement , you can save energ y and m oney by sch edulin g the Thecus I P sto rage t o tu rn i tself o n and off duri ng c ertai n tim es of the day. From the m enu, choose the Schedule Power O n/Off item an d the S chedule Power On/Off screen appears.
39 System will turn on at 8:00 AM on Mo n day, and will not shu t down un less powered down manua lly. You may al so choose tw o on ti mes or two off ti mes on a parti cul ar day, and the system wil l act accordi ngly. Example - M onday: O ff: 8:00; Off: 16:00 System will turn off at 8 :00 AM on M onday.
40 Utility ˙ Administrato r pas sword From the m enu, choose the Administr ator Pa ssword i tem and the Chan ge Administrato r Password screen appe ars. Enter a n ew passwo rd in th e New Password b ox and con firm your new pa ssword in t he Confirm Passw ord box.
41 ˙ F actory def ault From the m enu, choose the Factory D efault item an d the Reset to Factor y Default scr een appears . Press Apply t o reset th e IP STORAGE to facto ry defaul t settings. ˙ Rebo ot & Shut down From the m enu, choose Reboot & Shut down i tem, and the Shutdow n/Reboot System s c reen app ears .
42 Once the syst em has re booted, you wi ll be returned to the Fi le Syste m Check prompt. Che ck the desi red RAID vol umes and cl ick Next to p roceed wi th the fil e system chec k. Click Re boot to rebo ot with out running the check. Once you cl ick Next , yo u will see the followi ng screen: Click Start t o begin the file system ch eck.

44 WAN/LAN1 Configuration Item Description Host name Host name that identifies the N2200PLU S on the network. Domain name Specifies the domain name of the N2200PLUS WINS Server To set a serve r name fo r NetBIOS c omputer. MAC Address MAC address of the network interface.
45 LAN2 (Only for N2200PLUS) LAN2 Configurati on The Thecus IP storage s upports two Gigabi t Ethernet ports fo r high er service availabili ty. To config ure these po rts, choose LAN 2 from the S ystem Net work menu, and th e LAN2 C onfiguration screen ap pears.

47 A descripti on of each i tem foll ows: Apple Network Configuration Item Description AFP Server Enable or disable Apple File Service to use the I P STORAGE with MAC OS-based systems. MAC CHARSET Specifics the code page from drop down list Zone Specifies Zone for Applet Talk service.
48 A descripti on of each i tem foll ows: FTP Item Description FTP Enable FTP Service on the N2200 PLUS. Security FTP Enable or disable Security FTP, be sure the client FTP software has also security FTP setting enabled. Port Specifies the port number of an incoming connection on a non-standard port.
49 A descripti on of each i tem foll ows: Web Service Item Description HTTP (WebDisk) Support Enable or disable WebDisk support. Enter the port number if this option is enabled. The port number is default 80. HTTPs (Secure WebDisk) Support Enable or disabl e secure WebDisk support.

54 Create a RAID On the RAID Informat ion screen, press the cr eate butt on to go to th e CREAT RAID screen . In additi on to RAID disk in formation an d status, this screen l ets you make RAID c onfigurat ion setting s. Using Create RA ID , you can select stripe size, c hoose whi ch di sks ar e RAID di sks or the Spare Di sk.
55 RAID Level You can set t he storage vol ume as JBOD , RAID 0 , RA ID 1 . RAID config uration is usuall y required only wh en you first s et up the devi ce. 56 Edit RAID On the RAID Informat ion screen, press the Edit bu tton to go to the RAI D Informatio n screen. Using Edit RAID , you c an select RA ID ID and t he Spare Di sk. . Remove RAID Click to rem ove the RAI D volume. Al l user data has been created i n select ed RAID volume will be removed .
57 Space Allocation (N2200 Plus Only ) You may sp ecify the spa ce all ocated for Target USB volumes. To do thi s, under the Sto rage menu, cl ick RAI D and the R AID List win dow appears. Sel ect the RAID vol ume you wi sh to r eallocate by cli cking on i ts radio button, and click Space Allocation .
58 Add Folder Item Description RAID ID RAID volume where the new folde r will reside. Folder Name Enter the name of the folder. Description Provide a description the fold er. Browseable Enable or disable users from browsing the fol der contents. If Yes is selected, then the share folder will be browseable.
59 setting will only apply while access via SMB/CIFS and web disk. Public Admit or deny public access to this folder. Remove Folders To remove a f older, press th e Remove but ton from th e specifi ed folder row. Th e system wil l confirm fol der deleti on.
60 NFS Share Item Description Hostname Enter the name or IP address of the host Privilege Host has either read only or writeable access to the folder. Guest System Support There are two selections available : • Unix / Linux System • AIX (Allow source port > 1024) Choose the one which best fits your needs.
61 ACL setting Item Description Deny Denies access t o users or groups who are displayed in this column. Read Only Provides Read Only access to users or groups who are displayed i n this column. Writable Provides Writ e access t o users or groups who are disp layed in this column.
62 The ACL screen also al lows you to search for a p articular user. To do thi s, fol low the steps below: 1. In the bl ank, enter the n ame of the u ser you woul d like to find. 2. From the drop d own select the g roup you w ould like to search for t he use r in.

66 Local User Configuration From the Accou nts me nu, choose th e User ite m, and the Loc al User Configuration screen a ppears. This sc r een allows you to A dd , Edit , and Remove local users. Local User Configuration Item Description Add Press the Add butto n to add a user to the list of local users.
67 Edit Users 1. Select an exi sting u ser from the Loc al User Co nfiguration screen. 2. Click on the Ed it button , and Local User Setti ng screen ap pears. 3. From h ere, y ou can ent er a new passwo rd and re -enter to confi rm, or use the << or >> but tons to h ave this use r join or l eave a group.
68 Remove Users 1. Select an exi sting u ser from the Loc al User Co nfiguration screen. 2. Click on Remo ve butto n and the use r is deleted from the syst em. Local Group Configuration From the Accou nts me nu, choose th e Group item, an d the Loc al Group Configuration screen appears.
69 Add Groups 1. On the Lo cal Group Configur ation scre en, click on th e Add button . 2. The Loc al Group Sett ing scre en appears. 3. Enter a Group Name . 4. Enter a Grou p ID num ber. If l eft bla nk, th e system will automati cally assign one. 5.
70 Remove Groups 1. On the Loca l Group Co nfiguration screen, sel ect a group name from the list. 2. Press Remove t o delet e the group from the sy stem. Batch Create Users and Groups The Thecus IP storage c an al so add users and g roups in batch mode.
71 Application Server The Thecus IP storage s upports pri nter server, and Tunes se rver. The i ntegrated Print Server a llows you to share a si ngl e USB printer will all users on the netw ork. The Th ecus I P storage provi des acti vati ng the iTunes Se rver on the devi ce.

82 Using WebDisk The Thecus IP storage p rovides a W ebDisk funct ion that allows you to a ccess the system ov er the Interne t from any b rowser. 1. In the Logi n page, type in th e User ID and p assword that were pr eviously set for you i n the Account s menu.

86 5. Click on thi s icon an d Web Publis hing Wiza rd will start. 6. Sel ect the pictu res you want to publi sh t o the Photo W eb S erver by pl aci ng a check mark on the top l eft hand corn er of the pi cture. Cli ck Next . 7. Your PC will start to con nect to the Ph oto W eb Server.
87 9. Login in to the Thecus IP storage wi th your l ocal user name a nd passwo rd. 10. Create your album by enterin g an al bum name and clicki ng on the Create Album button. 11. Select the al bum you w ant to upl oad your pi ctures to. 12. Confirm th e target alb um.

90 Managing Albums and Photos Icon Func tio n Description Make Cover Make selected photo your cover picture. Back Return to the previous screen. Add Add a new album or photos. Modify Edit the name and description of the selected album or photo. Each name is limited to 20 characters and each description is limited to 255 characters.
91 Creating Albums To create a ph oto albu m, foll ow the steps bel ow: 1. Click the Add b utton to create a new albu m. 2. Enter a name for t he album, and enter a description if you wi sh. Then, click on the Create Album b utton. Password Protecting Albums If you woul d like to put a passwo rd on a parti cular al bum, follow th ese steps: 1.
92 Slide Shows Slid e shows are a great w ay to enjoy pi ctures st ored on your Th ecus IP storag e. You can cli ck on th e Start Slide Show i con on t he top right hand corner to start t he slide show. To stop th e slide show, cli ck on the Stop Slide Show icon on th e top ri ght han d corner.

94 Chapter 6: Tip s and T ricks USB Storage Expan si on The Thecus IP storage su pports external US B hard disks through i ts f our USB ports. Once a USB ha rd disk h as success fully mou nted, the enti re volume will be linked automati cally to the def aul t USB HDD folder.
95 RAID Auto-Rebuild When u sing RAID 1 on th e Th ecus IP st orage, you can use t he auto-reb uild functi on when an erro r is detect ed. 1. When a hard disk f ai l s the system b eeps and/or an e mail notification i s sent to specifi ed recipient s.
