1 INTRODUCTION Welcome to NS7 – a profess ional motorized DJ s oftware mixing syst em. NS7 gives you outstand ing high-resolution control of Sera to™ ITCH (included in this pack age).
2 PLATTER ASSEMBLY 1. Remove NS7 from the packaging. Remove the two pl atter assembl ies from package (underneath NS7). Place NS7 on a flat, stable surface for oper ation. Ensure unit has ade quate air flow to all ventilation por ts (especially if i nstall ed in a case).
3 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION Free updates to the Serato ITCH software are avai lable online at http://www.serato.com/itch . We recommend che cking the website for the latest update of Serato ITCH bef ore installing it on your computer. WINDOWS (XP & VISTA) 1.

7 TRANSPORT CONTROLS PLAYBACK CONTROLS 13. PLATTER / SLIPMAT / VINYL – This motorized platter (with slipmat and vinyl) controls the Audi o Pointer in the software. 14. PLAY / PAUSE – Starts or resumes playback if the Deck is paus ed. Pauses play back if the Deck is playing.
8 26. MODE – Press this to switch between Manual Mode and Autoloop M ode, which changes the functions of the bottom four LOOP CONTROL buttons. In Manual Mode, t he LOOP CONTROL buttons fu nction as IN, OUT, SELECT, and RE LOOP (explained above). In Autoloop Mode, the LOOP CONTROL buttons will set 1-, 2-, 4-, and 8-beat lo ops, respectively.
9 USING SERATO ITCH WITH THE NS7 GETTING STAR TED STARTING THE SOFTWARE Serato ITCH will be installed to the followin g locations: Windows XP: Start Programs ITCH Windows Vista: Windows Menu All Programs Serato ITCH Mac OSX: Applications (on your hard drive) Connect NS7 before opening Serato ITCH.
10 Showing Your iTunes™ Library: Serato ITCH can read your iTunes library and sho w it while browsing i n ITCH. To enable this feature, click Setup to go to the Setup screen, then under the Library tab, select “Show iTunes Library.” You will be able to access your iTunes Library.
11 SOFTWARE OVERVIEW More complete descriptions of these features are given in later se ctions of this manual, but this is a brief overview of the ke y features in Serato ITCH: 1. Album Art: Displays the cover art for the album selected. 2. Files: Displays the Files Panel, whic h enables you to search fo r tracks on your hard drive.

13 SOFTWARE SETUP The Setup screen has controls to personalize and mainta in your Serato ITCH system. Click the “Set up” button to enter the Setup screen. From here, you can click to enter any of the following tabs: Hardware, Playback , Library , Display or Mixer .
14 LIBRARY Show iTunes Library: When checke d, the current default iTunes library and iTunes playl ists will be shown in Serato ITCH. ( See the IMPORTING MUSIC section for more information.) Note: ITCH cannot play files that have been protecte d by Digital Rights Management systems like th ose sold thr ough the Apple iTunes Music Store.
15 THE LIBRARY Serato ITCH can support an unlim it ed number of tracks, s o the only limitation is th e size of your computer’s hard drive. A num ber of features are included to help keep your musi c organized and find your son gs quickly and easily.
16 Browse To browse through your files, just scroll up or down wi th the SCROLL KNO B or FWD and BACK buttons on the NS7. Clicking Browse in the software will open the Browse panel above the Mai n Library. T he filters are GENRE, BPM, ARTIST, and ALBUM.
17 Tip: To edit text, press “Control ” and “E” on your keyboard. Y ou can also ho ld down “Control” and mov e with the keyboar d’s arrow keys to change to a different field while staying in Edit Mod e. When you have more th an one file selec ted, editing tags change s all the files in your selection.
18 MIXING WITH THE NS7 PLAYING Y OUR FIRS T TRACK This section describes the basic steps to start playing tracks with the NS7 and Serato ITCH so you can start mixing. RESETTING THE MIXER It’s a good idea to set the NS 7 to the default settings befor e play ing.
19 EQUALIZATION Equalization (EQ) is used to b oost and cut specific frequencies. EQ is us ed to balance the soun d of 2 tracks that have been ma stered differently, to make a track sound “right” on your particular system, or for creative mi xing techniques.
20 Main Waveforms This view provides a close-up view of the track, including color-codin g to show the frequency of the sound; red r epresenting low-freque ncy bass sounds, green repr esenting mid-frequency sou nds and blue representing high-frequency treble s ounds.
21 DROPPING A TRACK IN The NS7’s PLATTERS are touch-sensitiv e. When a PLATTER’s motor is off, that PLATTER is in Nudge Mode (the SCRATCH OFF button should also be lit). In Nudg e Mode, moving the PLATTER backwards or forw ards will tempor a rily bend the speed of the tra ck faster or slower (respectively).
22 USING PITCH / TEMPO CONTROLS The following functions allow you to mani pulate the pitc h and speed of a track to aid the mixing process. P i t c h This number is the c urrent percentag e pitch difference from 0%. The amount by which you ca n increase or decr ease this interval w ill vary with the Pitch Range .
23 LOOPING Use the NS7’s LOOP CONTROLS area to create loops in your tracks. The bottom four L OOP CONTROL buttons have two modes. In Manual Mode, the MODE button is l it red, and the four buttons are IN, OUT, SELECT, and RELOOP. In Autoloop Mode, th e MODE button is lit white, and the four buttons c an create 1-, 2-, 4-, and 8-beat loo ps.
24 RECORDING Serato ITCH can capture recordings of your Program Mix or MIC / AUX INPUT channel. Recording controls are gr ouped into a menu above Deck B in the software. To record: 3 4 1 2 4 5 5 1. In the software, click the Record Source Selector and se lect your source from the drop -dow n menu.
25 USING THE NS7 AS A SOUND CARD The NS7 is equipped with a USB port which allows you to play cont ent and control the Serato ITCH software using the NS 7.
26 UPDATING THE FIRMWARE Occasionally, there may be an available fir mware update for the NS7. If your computer is connected to the int ernet, Serato ITC H will automatically detect if you need to update it. Follo w these steps when you need to update your firmware: Note: Audio output will stop during a firmwar e update.
27 NS7 CALIBRATION If you load new firmware to the NS7, or if you ever experience probl ems with your knobs or faders (a very rare occurrence), the NS7 can be recalibrated.
28 6. Set all faders and knobs to the minimum or left-most position. T he PITCH FADERS should be at the top, which is their minimum. The left Deck’s HOT CUE BUTTON 1 will light up. 7. Press the lit left Deck’s HOT CUE BUTTON 1. It will flash twice.
29 10. Set all faders and knobs to the middle/cente r posit ion. The left Deck’s HOT CUE BUTTON 1 will light up. 11. Press the lit left Deck’s HOT CUE BUTTON 1. The left Deck’s HOT CUE BUTTONS 1-5 will flash, indicating that calibration is complete.
30 TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM CAUSE SOLUTION The USB cable is not pr operly connected to your computer or NS7. Make sure both USB connection s are secure. The software was opened before NS7 was connected. I'm seeing a “Hardware Disconnected” message in the software.
