Before Using 1 - 7 Precautions for Safety This section pr ovides precaution s for using the se rver safely . Read this sec tion carefully to ensure proper and sa fe use of the server . For sym bol meanings, see "Safet y Indications" desc ribed in the previous sectio n.
1-8 Before Using CA UTION Prevent water or foreign objects from getting into the equi pment. Do not let water or foreign objects (e.g., pins or paper clips) enter the equipment. There is a risk of a fire, electric shock, and brea kdown. When such things accidentally enter the e quipment, immediately turn of f the power and unplug the cord.
Before Using 1 - 9 Use of Power Supply and Power Cord W A RNING Do not handle a po wer plug with a wet hand. Do not plug/unplug a po wer cord with a wet hand. There is a risk of an electric shock. Do not connect the ground wire to a gas pipe. Never connect the ground wire to a gas pipe .
1-10 Before Using CAUTION Do not use nonconforming power cords. Use the power cords specified by NEC. If the rated current is exceeded, the re is a risk of a fire. You also have to observe the follo wing pr ohibitions to prevent damage to the cords. Do not pull on the cord.
Before Using 1 - 1 1 Inst allation, Relocation, Storage and Connection W A RNING Disconnect the power cord(s) before installing or removing the eq uipment. Be sure to power off the equipment and unplug its po wer cords from the wall outlet before installation/reloc ation.
1-12 Before Using CAUTION Do not connect any interface cable with the power cord of the server plugged to a power source. Make sure to power off the server and unplug the power cord from a po wer outlet before installing/removing an y optional internal devic e or connecting/disconnecting a ny interface cabl e to/from the server.

2-2 About Operating Sy stem Installing Windows Server 2003 For installing an op erating system on NEC Expr ess5800 /ft series, use NEC EXPRESSBUILDER. IMPORTANT: The NEC E xpress5800/ft series is a precision i nstrument. You sh ould ask maintenance personnel to install it.
About Operating System 2-3 IMPORTANT: Complete all the setups such as the memory expansion and the BIOS setting before installing W indows Server 2003. NEC software package, which i s to be purchase d separately , is also provided with the documentation for installation.

Chapter 3 Inst alling Server This chapter describes requi rements for usi ng the product pr operly and safely , the setup procedures to make NEC Express5 800/ft series ready for use, an d how to connect peripheral s.
3-2 Inst alling Server Inst allation This section de scribes installat ion of NEC Express 5800/ft series. T ow er Model IMPORT ANT : NEC Express5800/ft series is a preci sion instrum ent. Y ou should ask maintenance personnel to install it. Select a suitable site for tower model.
Inst alling Server 3-3 Do not install NEC Express5800/ft series in suc h places as listed below . Otherwise, the server m ay malfunction. Place where temperatures change widely (ne ar a heater , air conditioner , or refrigerator). Place that is subject to intense vibration.
3-4 Inst alling Server After fastening the main cabinet , open its front bezel to m ount the CPU and PCI m odules. For details, see the following section “Inst allation of Rack-m ount Model.” Pro cedures are basically the same for the tower model exc ept that its modul es are mounted ve rtically instead of horizontally .
Inst alling Server 3-5 Inst allation of Rack-mount Model Y ou can mount NEC Express5800/ft series on a rack t hat conforms to the EIA standa rds. IMPORT ANT : NEC Express5800/ft series is a preci sion instrum ent. Y ou should ask maintenance personnel to install it.
3-6 Inst alling Server W A RNI NG Observe the following precautions to use the server safely. There is a risk of a death or serious injury. For details, see “Notes for Safe Han dling” in Chapter 1. Do not install the equipment in non- designated places.
Inst alling Server 3-7 Place that is close to some equipment that causes power noises (e.g., sparks caused by power-on/off using a relay). If you must install the server close to such equipment, reques t your sales agent for sepa rate power cabling or noise filter installation.
3-8 Inst alling Server Connection Connect periph eral devices to NEC E xpress5800/ft se ries. The server is prov ided with conn ectors for wide variety of periph eral devices on its front and r ear .
Inst alling Server 3-9 A rack -mount model is shown here. As for a towe r model, location s of the connectors a re same though the orientation o f the equipm ent is dif ferent. IMPORT ANT : Space of 1U above the ma in unit is needed to place the USB floppy disk drive on the main unit for a rack-mount m odel.
3-10 Inst alling Server After connecting cabl es to PCI m odules, secure them with the cable ties. When completing connectio n to peripheral equipm ent, connect the two provi ded power cords to the server . After that, secure the cables with the cable tie provided in the server .
Inst alling Server 3-1 1 T o connect the po wer cords from the server to an uninterrupti ble power supply (UPS), use ser vice outlets on the rear o f the UPS. The UPS service outlets are c ategorized into two groups: SWI TCH OUT and UN-SWITCH OUT . (They may be called "OUTPUT1" and "OUTPUT 2".

4-4 Windows Setup S tep 1: Things Required for Setup The followin g explains the set up procedure using t he ft series setup pr ogram: IMPORT ANT : Do not app ly service packs to NEC Exp ress5800/f t series based on your judgment.
Windows Setup 4-5 Size of the Partition to be Created The required minimum size of a partition to install the system can be obtained from the follo wing formula: Size required for installation + paging file size + dump file size Size required for installation = 2,900MB Paging file size (recommended) = size of memo ry mo unted* × 1.
4-6 Windows Setup S tep 2: Prep are for f t series Setup Before starting ft series setup, be sure to do the f ollowing. If these pre parations are not done, setup cannot be perfo rmed proper ly .
Windows Setup 4-7 11. When restarti ng process starts , remove the ROM -DOS startup dis k from the flop py disk drive and power off. Initialization of hard disks is completed.
4-8 Windows Setup 2-2: Prepare NEC Express5800/ft series With the powe r of NEC Express5 800/ft series off , follow the steps below: 1. Prepare NEC Express5 800/ft series. • Remove all o ptional PCI boa rds. • Mount the PC I modules (f or Group1/for G roup2), and CPU modules (for Group1/f or Group2).

4-10 Windows Setup (2) Make sure that the two BMC St atus LEDs of the PCI m odules (for Group1/for Group2) are turned off. IMPORTANT: While the BMC S tatus LED is red and bli nking, do no t perform (3) and on. Ot herwise the BMC firmware m ay become damaged.
Windows Setup 4 - 1 1 S tep 3: Disable Boot Monitoring Function Check whether the power is O N and make sett ings for properly performing set up for later on .
4-12 Windows Setup 3. Confirm t hat the BMC St atus LED ( ) on both PCI m odules are of f and press the illuminated POWER switch which is located on th e front panel. * Only the lit POWER switch can be used. IMPORTANT: Do not turn off the power before the "NEC" logo appears.
Windows Setup 4 - 1 3 4. When the m essage “Press <F2> to enter SETUP” or “Press <F2> t o enter SETUP or Press <F12> to Network” on the disp lay screen, press F2 . The BIOS Setup Utility “SETUP” starts and the Main menu is displayed on the screen.

Windows Setup 4 - 1 9 CHECK: The message “The system will be rebooted.” appears on the screen momentarily . The server will restart automatica lly and no user intervention is required. After the hard disk drive is form atted, the message about co pying the NEC Exp ress5800/ft series system software to the system drive from the CD-ROM.
4-20 Windows Setup The additional ft Update CD will be used. Are you sure [Y ,N]? The additional ft Update CD will not be used . Are you s ure [Y ,N]? If you have an additional ft Upd ate CD and wish to use it, insert the CD-ROM into the CD -ROM drive.
Windows Setup 4 - 2 1 IMPORT ANT : When the usage of the “NEC Express 5800/ft series ft Update C D” is not selected, the abov e message will not appear . Go on to 17 . 17. A message prompting you for wh at language version of Windows Server 2003 to in stall will appear.
4-22 Windows Setup 22. The confirmatio n message for input size of the partition to install the OS will appear . When it is correct, enter “Y”. If it is wrong, enter “N” and press Enter .
Windows Setup 4 - 2 3 26. When the completion of copying Microsoft HotFix, the following message will appear . Follow the instruction on the screen, insert appropriate CD-ROM and press any key . 27. The following message will app ear . W ait until copying process completes.
4-24 Windows Setup 29. When copyin g is complete, the installa tion of W indows Server 2003 will be started automatically . IMPORT ANT : During the automatic installat ion process (fro m 28 to 38) a window may be displayed showing the progress as well as app lication installation wizards.

T he Express Repo rt Service Setup wizard starts an d installation is done autom atically . 38. The fo llowing screen will appear and installatio n of W indows HotFix will begin .
4-28 Windows Setup 39. After installation of W indows HotFix is complete, installation is co ntinued. User intervention is not required. Wh en the NEC Express580 0/ft series software is installed, the NEC Expr ess5800/ft series will be restarted automatically .
Windows Setup 4 - 2 9 40. After restarting, the [W elcome to the W indows Setup W izard] screen will app ear . Click [Next>] and follow the in struction of the wizard. After completing operation s in the wizard, the NEC Express5800/ft series will be restarted automatically .
4-30 Windows Setup 43. The following screen will appear . Follow the instruction in the screen and remove the CD from the drive, and then press any key .
Windows Setup 4 - 3 1 S tep 5: Set Dual LAN Configuration The NEC Express5800/ft ser ies builds a dual LAN conf iguration by using "Stratus emb-82559 10/100 Enet Adapte r" (100Base) and "S tratus emb-82544GC C opper Gigabit Adapter" (1000Base) mounted as st andard on the P CI module.
4-32 Windows Setup [T eam #1: Adaptive Fault T olerance Mode] is added to Netwo rk Component T ree. 4. Select [S tratus em b-82559 10/100 Enet Adapt er] from Network C omponent T ree. The pop-up me nu appears. Select [T eam #1: Adaptive Fault T olerance Mode] fr om [Add to T eam], a nd add th e adap ters.
Windows Setup 4 - 3 3 7. Click [OK] . The [Intel(R)PROSet II] dialog box closes afte r a while, and the settings become ef fective. IMPORT ANT : The [Digital signature not found] dial og box may appear (several times). If it appears, click [Y es].
4-34 Windows Setup S tep 6: Set Dual Disk Configuration NEC Express5 800/ft series secures data by sett ing dual disk c onfiguration usi ng “Disk Management ” or “RDR (Rapid Disk Resync) fu nction”. Be sure t o make dual dis k settings by referring to the procedure.
Windows Setup 4 - 3 5 4. Confirm that the hard disk to be converted is the hard disk where the system is installed and click [Convert]. If the selected hard disk contains a system partition, you will have to restart the computer to complete the upgrade of t he hard disk.
4-36 Windows Setup 6. If the in serted hard disk i s not a dynam ic disk, right-clic k the disk and per form “Convert t o Dynamic Disk”. 7. Right -click the dynam ic disk volum e for creati ng mirror and cli ck [Add Mirro r…].
Windows Setup 4 - 3 7 9. Confirm that the mirroring of the HDD has been started in the disk manager . 10. When the “Resynching” shown in 9 chan ges to “Healthy”, disk mirroring has completed. Continue the operation by following the instru ctions on the screen.
4-38 Windows Setup Setting Dual Disk Configuration by the RDR (Rapid Disk Resync) function On a model supporting the R DR functio n, dual disk configuration is se t for each pair of disks by the RDR function of the ft control software.
Windows Setup 4 - 3 9 Registering RDR key When using the RDR function for the first time, follow the steps below to register the key: 1. Insert “RDR Key FD” that ca me with th e server into the flopp y disk drive.
4-40 Windows Setup 3. When RDR is successfully configured, th e followi ng two pop-up messages appear . On the “W arning” pop-up, click [OK], and on the “System Restart W arn ing” pop-up, click [Y es]. IMPORT ANT : Clicking [Y es] on the “System Restart W arn ing” pop-up will restart the system in 2 minutes.
Windows Setup 4 - 4 1 6. Start “RDR Utility”, right-click the mounted disk and click [Add RDR V irtual Disk]. IMPORT ANT : If the mounted disk has not been initialized on W indows, RDR will be configured and synchronization will b e performed automatically .
4-42 Windows Setup 7. Select [Logical Disk In formation] then [RDR V irtual Disk] and con firm that the duplication process has be en started. TIPS: It takes about 16 minutes to set dual disk confi guration for a n 18GB disk.

Windows Setup 4 - 4 5 S tep 10: Set Network fo r NEC ESMPRO Agent NEC ESMPRO Agent is required for continuous oper ation, and it is automatically installed by “ft series setup”. T o operate NEC ESMPRO Agent, you need to make setting the SNMP . T o change the settings of the SNMP Service: 1.
