General Description 2-17 POST POST (Power On Self-T est) is the self-diag nosti c program st ored in the system memory . When you power on the serv er , th e system automatically runs PO ST to check the mother board, ECC mem ory module, CPU m odule, keyboard, an d mouse.
2-18 General Description POST Execution Flow The following describes the p rogress of POST in the chronological orde r . IMPORT ANT : Do not power off the server while POST is in progress. Do not m ake key entries or perform mouse operations w hile POST is in progress.

2-22 General Description When you fail to eject: When you fail to eject the tray with the Open/Clo se button and take out the disc from the server, follow the procedure below . 1. Press the POWER switch t o power off the serv er . (The POWER/SLEE P lamp goes off.

3-2 Setting Up Y our Server SETUP FLOW Follow the flowchart below to set up the server . Unpacking the system Unpack the server and accessories from the shipping carton box. Installin g optional dev ices If you have purchased any optional d evice for the server , see Chapter 9 to install it.
Setting Up Y our Server 3-3 UNP ACKING THE SYSTEM When you receive your system, insp ect the shi pping containers pr ior to unpacking. If the shippi ng boxes are dam aged, note the dam age, and if possi ble, phot ograph i t for reference . After rem oving the contents of the containers, ke ep the cartons and the packing materials.

The figure on the next page illustrates available peripheral devices for the server in the standard configu ration and loca tions of the connectors for the devices.

Setting Up Y our Server 3-1 1 The POWER/SLEEP lamp on th e front of the server comes on. In a few seconds, the NEC logo a ppears on the sc reen and the Power On Self-T est (POST) begins. The POST runs automatically when you power on the server or reset it with a keyboard operation ( Ctrl + Alt + Delete ).

Chapter 4 Configuring Y our Server Configuration and setup utilities are used to change your system configuration. Y ou can configure your system, as well as option boards you may add to your system, using the BIOS Setup utility .
4-2 Configuring Y our Server SYSTEM BIOS (BIOS SETUP UTILITY) The BIOS Setup utility is provided to make basic hardware configuratio n for the server .
Configuring Y our Server 4-3 St arting SETUP Utility A few seconds after powering on, the following message appears at bottom left on th e screen. If NEC logo appears instea d, press Esc . Press <F2> to enter SETUP or Press <F12> to boot from Network Press F2 to start the BIOS Setup utility and display its Main menu.
