Loading or iginals and prin t media _3 5 CHANGING THE SIZE OF THE PAPER IN THE PAPER TRAY To load longer sizes of paper, such as Legal-sized pape r, you need to adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray. 1. Adjust the paper length guide to the desired paper length.

After inserting pape r into the tray, while pi nching the paper wi dth guide as shown, move it toward th e stack of paper un til it lightly touches the side of the stack. Do not press the guide too tightly to the edge of the paper; the guide may bend the paper.

Do not force too much, o r the paper will be bent, which will result in a paper jam or skew. 5. After loading paper, set the paper type and size for the multi-purpose tray.

68 _ Using USB memory device SCANNING TO AN US B MEMORY DEVICE You can scan a document an d save the scanned image onto a USB memory device. When you scan a document, the machine uses th e defaul t settings such as the resolution. Y ou can also customize your own scan setting.
Using USB memory device _6 9 • Scan Preset : Automa tically changes some scan options such as file format, resolution, and more. You can adjust op tions to fit each specific purpose. (See "Scan Pre s et" on page 7 0.) • File Format : Selects the file format of the scan output.

76 _ Machine status and advanced setup Redial The machine can automatically redial a remote fax machine, if it was busy. You can set the number of redial attempts and an interval between attempts. Selecting 0 for Redial Times means th at the machine will not use this featu re.

Troubleshooting _9 9 Printing quality problems If the inside of the machine is dirty or paper has been loa ded improperly, you may notice a red uction in print qu ality. See the table bel ow to clear the problem. Pages print, but they are blank. The toner cartridge is defective or out of toner.
100 _ Troublesho oting White Spots Wh ite sp ots appears on the page: • The paper is too rough and a lot of dirt from a paper falls to the inne r devices within the machine, so the transfer roller ma y be dirty. Clean the insi de of your machine . (See "Cleaning the transfer u nit" on pa ge 81.

104 _ Troublesho oting Common Windows problems Common Linux problems The machin e does not st aple correctly when printing more than one copy from Acrobat Reader with a collate option. (only in Window/ Macintosh) It might take longer to print when you print a PDF file as an image.
Troubleshooting _ 105 Some color images come out in unexpected color. This is a known bug in Ghostscript (until GNU Ghostscript version 7.xx) when the base color space of the document is indexed RGB color space and it is converted through CIE color space.
