5 Chapter 1. I ntroduction Thank you for purchasing an Asanté Friendly NET FM 2017 SNMP/W eb managed switch. This sw itch is designed to build high-performance switched netw o rks.
6 Ethernet Sw itching T echnology Ethernet switching technology has dramatically boosted the total bandwidth of a netw ork, eliminating congestion problems inherent with Carrier Sense M ultiple Access with Collision Detection (CSM A/CD) protocol, and has greatly reduced unnecessary transmissions.
7 Chapter 2. Hardw are Installation This chapter describes the front and rear panels of the FM 2017, and explains how to install, mount and apply pow er to the switch.
8 Rear Panel The rear panel contains the Netw ork Management module and the 3-pronged power plug. T he switch uses AC in the range of 100-240V AC, 50-60Hz.
9 • FX100-M MC • FX100-SM C15 • FX100-SM C30 • FX100-SM C60 The FX 100 modules are designed to extend the allow able distance between the switch and other netw ork devices. The max imum distance that can be achieved with fiber cabling is 2 kilometers (multi-mode fiber) and up to 15, 30 or 60 kilometers (single-mode fiber).

11 Chapter 3. Netw ork A pplication This section provides a few samples of network topology in w hich the switch can be used. In general, the switch is designed to be used as a segment switch. T hat is, with its large address table (8000 M AC address) and high performance, it is ideal for interconnecting networking segments.

13 Chapter 4. Netw ork Configurati on This chapter ex plains how to configure console management via a direct connection to the console port of the switch. Console management involves the administration of the sw itch via a direct connection to the RS-232 console port.

17 Chapter 5. Web-Based Management This section introduces the configuration and functions of the w eb-based management of switch. The FM 2017 provides an embedded HT ML w ebsite residing in the CPU module. It offers management features and allows users to manage the sw itch from anyw here on the network through a standard w eb browser .
18 Inside the System page, the follow ing information about the switch is listed: Network Setting • IP address : 192.168.0.1 • Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0 • Broadcast : 255.255.255.255 • Default gateway : 0.0.0.0 The configuration above is only a reference setting.
19 The data is automatically updated at regular interv als. Port Config Screen Y ou can use the Port Config page to disable/enable each port. By default, all the ports are Enabled . T o disable or enable a port: 1. Select the drop-down menu in the Status column.
20 T o set these parameters for a port: 1. Select the drop-down menu in Speed/Duplex column. 2. Select one of the following choices: Auto/flow control enabled, Auto/flow control disabled, 100Base- Tx /Full Duplex , 100Base-Tx /Half Duplex , 10Base-T/Full Duplex or 10Base-T/Half Duplex .
21 A gent Con fig Screen In the Agent Config page, the switch’ s current configurations are displayed. Y ou can refer to the following Agent Config page for your ow n setting. Boot Method There are three modes of Boot M ethod: • FLASH : Boot y our system by flash settings.
22 Default A gent Configuration The follow ing are the default values of the Agent Config of the switch. Y ou can change the information listed by entering new information (for example, you can change the sw itch’s IP address by directly typing in a new IP address).
