Chapter 1. Gett ing Start ed The 9450 RASC AL ® printer is a portable, thermal-direct printer . Th is chapter tell s you ho w F to use the buttons on top of th e prin ter . F to cha rge an d use th e batte ry . F sleep mode wo rks. F to attach th e belt.
Using the Buttons –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– On the top of the pr inter , there are two bu ttons an d an LED indi cator , as sh own. [F eed] Use to F feed or advan ce the s upp ly for pr inti ng.
[O n/ Off ] Use to F turn the pri nter on an d off . F wake the p rinter from sl eep m ode. See "About S leep Mode ," later i n this chapter . F reset the pri nter to norm al opera tion mode after p rinting a test label. See Chapter 6, "T roubl eshooting," for informatio n.
If the battery l oses power in the mi ddle of a pri nting sessi on, replace or re charge the battery . The printe r remembers the pr int job. When you use or sto re yo ur ch arg er , do no t : F wrap the c ord aro und the c harg er . F pull or p ut u nusual st ress on the cord .
4. When char ging is comp lete, unplug th e charger from the battery . 5. Load the battery , as discrib ed in "Lo ading th e Battery ." 6. Press [On/Off] to resume printing.
2. Squeeze the side tabs o n the battery an d pull the b attery away fro m the prin ter . L oading th e Ba tter y T o load the battery: 1. Insert the bo ttom tabs on the ba ttery into the slots at the bottom of the battery we ll. 2. Push the to p of the battery onto the prongs until the battery snap s into plac e.
A ttaching the Belt ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Y our prin ter comes wi th a belt for po rtable pri nting. T o attach the bel t: 1. Lift on e of the clips and s lip th e bel t under it.

Chapter 2. Loading Supp lies The pri nter acce pts lab els, t ags, an d thermal pape r . La bels can b e indexe d or no n-indexe d. T hey also ca n have a core o r be corele ss. Use syntheti c (non-pap er) label s to print seri al or high -densi ty ba r codes .
L oading for P eel Mode ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– In P eel mode, use die-cut la bels onl y . Use supplies up to a max imum of 2.05 inche s. Co ntact Mo narc h at the numb er at the bac k of this manua l if y ou have s peci al labe l requ ireme nts.
3. Squeez e the tabs on both s ides of the s uppor t frame and pull it open. 4. Insert the le ading e dge of the suppl y into th e supply g uide whil e droppi ng the supply roll i nto the suppl y well . Push the suppl y agai nst the back of the well. Use your finge r to push the sup ply thro ugh th e supp ly chute .
5. Place t he su pply h olde r agai nst th e supp ly roll in the supply we ll. Make su re the supply tu rns freely in the well. 6. F eed the supply th rough the pri nter , as foll ows.

L oadin g for No n-P eel Mod e –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– In non-pe el mode , supplies can be ei ther di e-cut or butt cut with a maximum size o f 2.
4. Drop the new supply roll into the supply well un til it rests on the ba ck wall . 5. With th umb and forefinge r , insert the l eading edge of th e supply into the supp ly guide un til the printer begi ns to feed the supply . Make sure the su pply roll is fl ush agai nst the back wall when you be gin to in sert th e lea ding ed ge.
R emoving Supplies ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– T o remove suppli es: 1. Remo ve the s upply hol der as s how n. 2. Cut or tear th e suppli es as clo se to the sup ply gu ide as poss ible , and re mov e the su pply roll .
Chapter 3. Printe r Communicatio ns Syst em Administra tors On ly . Before the printer ca n receiv e a print jo b from the h ost, you must: 1. Set the com munic ations paramete rs.

Use your f ingers (n o sharp obje cts) to re move a ny jammed labels from the su pply g uide and su pply chute .
Inserting t he Supply Guide If the suppl y guide d oes com e out of the pri nter: 1. Tilt the sup ply gu ide i n a do wnwa rd slan t, an d insert the catch into th e top of the track. 2. Tilt the su pply gui de so it li nes up wi th the track, an d then gen tly slid e it al ong t he tr ack, an d int o the printe r .
Cleaning the Printhead –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Clea n the pr inthead dail y when usi ng the pr inter in exc ess ive ly dirt y , ho t, or hum id en viro nmen ts.
Cleaning the Platen R oller and P eel Blade –––––––––––––––––––––– T o cle an the pl aten r oll er and peel blad e: 1. T urn the printer off . 2. Remo ve the su ppli es, if y ou hav en’t alre ady . See "Removing Supplies" in Cha pter 2 for more information.
5. Rub t he cotto n swab back an d fort h across th e plat en roller a nd pe el blad e to remove any bu ildu p. 6. Let the pri nter dry brie fly . T hen, reload you r supplie s.
Chapter 6. Trou blesho ot ing This c hap ter ex plai ns how to F prin t a test la bel. F read the LED ind icator . F clear errors. F solve any p roble ms that may occur .
If the LED i ndicator d oes not com e on when you p rint a test label, p ress [On/O ff] and [F eed] at the same time and reattach the battery . Release [On/O ff] and w ait for the L ED indicato r to turn amb er before rele asing [F eed] . The test label prints automatica lly .
Pr oblems and Solutions –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Some common printe r probl ems and th eir soluti ons are listed belo w . Problem Solut ion Battery won’t char ge.
Problem Solu tion Print has voids or is too light. Make sur e the supplies are loaded corr ectly . Check the s upplies for damage or defects. Reload s upplies if necessary . Check the peel r oller for jammed supplies. Check the s upply type (i.e., index ed or non-index ed).
Problem Solu tion Printer does not pr int. Charge the battery . Make sur e the print job was cor rect. Make sur e the supplies are loaded corr ectly . Make sur e the printhead is clos ed. Printer does not s tart. Make sur e the battery is charged and plugged into the printer .
