Chapter 1: Introduction 2 Welcome to ArcSoft ShowBiz® DV D 2, a powerful video application that include s everythi ng you need to edit your home videos and create spectacular DVDs. This Introduction covers the installation and system requirement s and provides an overview of the typical ShowBiz workflow.
Chapter 1: Introduction 3 1.1 Installation 1. Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive. 2. The install er should start automatically. 3. Follow the on-screen instru ctions to comple te the installa tion. Take note as to where the pr ogram is installing, an d where it can be found in the Start menu.

Chapter 1: Introduction 5 1.3 Workflow Overview ShowBiz DVD 2 is divided int o four main sect ions, or "mo dules." You can start in any module, depend ing on what you are interested in! Capture Record video from your DV ca mera or other video device.
Chapter 1: Introduction 6 When you first launch ShowB iz, the Welcome screen offer s several options for common starting places. Selecting an option takes you right into one of the four modules: Cr eate, Edit, Capture, or Quick DVD.
Chapter 2: Capture 7 2. Capture Video Capture Audio Capture.
Chapter 2: Capture 8 The Capture module is w here you record video and audio. It consists of two tabs: Video and Audio . Choose Video to record video from DV camcorders and other connected devices. Choose Audio to record sound clip s, voiceovers, and ot her sounds.
Chapter 2: Capture 9 2.1 Video Capture You can capture video from a mu ltitude of video devices, includ ing DV camcorders. The available options vary depend ing on the device. Capturing from a DV Ta pe When capturing from a DV de vice, playback contro ls appear.
Chapter 2: Capture 10 Auto Scan: Click to have the program sca n for available ch annels. Audio Device: Check the box if you would like to record audio as well. If you check the box, choose your device from the pull-down. The following buttons may also be available.
Chapter 2: Capture 11 Capturing from VFW De vices VFW ("Video for Windows") devices follow an older Microsoft multimedia f ramework. Older we bcams, USB devices, or PCI devices may use the VFW standard. To capture video from VFW devices, select your desi red VFW device from the pull-down.
Chapter 2: Capture 12 Check the Audio Device box to record audio from your selected sound source. When you're ready, clic k the red Record button. Save As For capturing from any device, after you click the red Record button, you'll be prompted with the Save As window.
Chapter 2: Capture 13 Lastly, you can set th e scene detection . Scene detect ion is discussed further in Section 3.3. If you choose to have scene d etection, you can eith er do it manually during the capt ure process (by pressing the space bar on your keyboard), or automatically.

Chapter 3: Edit 16 The Edit module is w here you assemb le various components to create a new video clip. It contains four primary tabs, one for each type of component you can add to your video clip: Media , Text, Transitions, Effect s. A fifth tab, Export, appears as soon as you have content in your video cl ip.
Chapter 3: Edit 17 3.1 Video Clip Components Everything you need to create your video clips is in one of four tabs: Medi a, Text, Tran sitions, and Effects. Media – Choose still images, video fi les, and audio files that you'd like to use to cr eate a new video clip.
Chapter 3: Edit 18 3.2 Player The Player consists of the pre view area on the right s ide of the screen and all the controls be low it . Use the Player to preview and trim your video clip as you compile it. The Player contains standard play/pause/rewind button s, along with other controls that depend on what you are previewing or recording.
Chapter 3: Edit 19 There are two timer s. The left timer ind icates the tota l playing time of the select ed component. T he right timer i ndicates the current time. When viewing an audio or video compo nent, the timer (slider) beneath the preview w indow has two markers: the Start M arker and the End Marker.
Chapter 3: Edit 20 3.3 Media The Media tab of the Edit module is where y ou browse your albums for video content. Conten t includes still images, v ideo files, and aud io files. Albums Albums are collections of shor tcuts to files st ored on your system.
Chapter 3: Edit 21 Use this pul l-down to choo se your album. To create a new alb um, choose "< New Album >". Enter a new name for your album (or rename any album) by simp ly typing over the existing nam e. Add - Click this button to add files to your albu m.
Chapter 3: Edit 22 Scene Det ection Scene detectio n makes it easy for you to break up long video clips into separate c omponents without h aving to save each c lip individu ally. The program sc ans the select ed video file and automatically breaks i t up according to changes in time or content.
Chapter 3: Edit 23 3.4 Storyboard The Storyboard is one place where you arra nge your video clip components. It serves a s the temp late for video construction. You add a still image or video clip to each spot on the Storyboard. Then, when you save your video, all of th e components ar e combined into a single file.
Chapter 3: Edit 24 All of the components on the Storyboard are swappable, meaning you can drag and drop them to swap them with other components. This makes it easy to rearrange video clips and still images, or swap transitions from one spot to another.
Chapter 3: Edit 25 the timer to the spot w here you want the split performed, t hen right-click the video component on the Storyboard or Timeline and select Split. Yo u can recombine two split v ideos by selecti ng them both on the Storyboard or Timeli ne, right-clicking, and selecting Combine.
Chapter 3: Edit 26 3.5 Timeline The Timeline is the o ther place where you arrange your video clip components. It serves a s the temp late for video construction.

Chapter 3: Edit 28 • Drag the sliders to the l eft of the Player to a djust the brightness, contras t, hue, and satura tion. • Use the top timer to modify th e disp lay time for each still image. This is the time tha t the image remains o n the screen before changing to the next comp onent on the Timeline.
Chapter 3: Edit 29 components un editable. This is useful if you want to move aro und or edit specific areas without having to worry about unintentionally modifying ot her components. While working in t he Timeline , you have the f ollowing optio ns available: Undo – Undoes the las t command.
Chapter 3: Edit 30 3.6 Text Add text over any video clip or sti ll image. Click on any text opt ion to preview it in the P layer. Add the se lected text co mponent to your project by dragging it to the Storyboard/Timeline. The Text tab is divided into tw o categories: Style a nd Effect.
Chapter 3: Edit 31 alignment, color, and styl e (bold and italic). On the ri ght is a column of text styles. Cho se the one you like best. In Edit mode, choose eith er Move or Text. With Move sele cted, you can reposition your text by clicking and dragging.
Chapter 3: Edit 32 3.7 Transitions Transitions are specia l effects that can be in serted between video clips or still images on the Storyb oard/Timeline . In the Tran sitions tab, choose your trans ition from the avai lable categories, then click the arrow to add it to th e Storyboard/T imeline.
Chapter 3: Edit 33 3.8 Effects Special effects are included to he lp you spice up your movies. In the Effects tab, they are or ganized into vari ous categories including crop shape s, frames, and filter s. Click and drag an effect onto any video clip or still image on the Timeline.
Chapter 3: Edit 34 3.9 Export The Export tab offers various option s for saving your video. All of the components on th e Storyboard/Timeline will be combined in to a single video file. (The Export section only appears once you have components on the Storyboard/Timeline.

Chapter 4: Create 36 The Create module is where you go after you have ed ited your video files, when you want to create a DVD or VCD. The module is divided into six tabs: Media – In this tab, you choose individual video files that you want to use in your DVD mov ie.
Chapter 4: Create 37 4.1 Media The Media tab is where you choose the videos you want to include in your DVD movie. Each v ideo you add is made into its own chapter in your movie. Th e preview area on the r ight side of the screen shows you your current movie layout.
Chapter 4: Create 38 4.2 Themes The Themes tab is wh ere you add background images to your projects. Themes are albums of categor ized images that ca n be used as menu backgrounds for your DVD. From the pull-down, selec t the category you want. You ca n then choose the exact men u background.
Chapter 4: Create 39 4.3 Customize The Customize tab le ts you customize t he look and feel of the chapter thumbnails seen in your menus. You can choose the thum bnail borders as well as t he thumbnail arrangements.
Chapter 4: Create 40 4.4 Text In the Text tab, you can modify any text that appears o n any menu. Simply cl ick on the text you want in the preview area, then edit as you see fit. You can alter the font, size, s tyle (b old and italic), and text color.
Chapter 4: Create 41 4.5 Set Chapters The Set Chapters tab le ts you trim video cli ps and break them up into multip le chapters. V ideos that conta in multipl e chapters will automatically be turned into the ir own submenus . Setting chapters is only ava ilable for DVD projects.
Chapter 4: Create 42 Click this button to set the current frame as the thumbnail for the chapter. Click this button to remove all chapter points from the video. Click this butt on to set the start ing point of the video at the current position of the timer.
Chapter 4: Create 43 4.6 Preview Area The preview area shows you how your DVD menu will appear. You can also use it to play your DV D. When you do, a virtual remote control appears, letting you n avigate through th e DVD menu in the same way that you would on your TV.
Chapter 4: Create 44 Click here to save your background as a reusable template unde r the Themes secti on. Click and drag audio to this spot to hav e music/narration play du ring the current menu. Check this box to anima te the menu thum bnails (t he respective chapter will play within the cha pter button for the specified time ).
Chapter 4: Create 45 4.7 Slide Shows Slide shows can be added to your movie as separate chapters. Double-cli cking the respect ive chapter butto n lets you edit an existing slide show. To start creatin g a slide show, make sure you are in the Media tab of th e Create module and click the "Create Slideshow" button below t he preview area.
Chapter 4: Create 46 Add Pan & Zoom E ffects The Pan & Zoom option lets you add a uniqu e movement effect to your slides. See Section 7.8 for mo re information. This option is only available for DVD projects. Add Audio You can attach mus ic files to each slide .
Chapter 4: Create 47 Once you have gotten this far in creat ing your slide show, click "Next." Transitions Transitions are effects t hat occur when one s lide changes to another. Choose a set effect, or "All Effec ts (Random)," to have the program randomly inser t transitions betw een each slide.
Chapter 4: Create 48 4.8 Write Disc This is the final step in creating your DVD or VCD. The top meter shows the amount of availab le and required space to creat e your movie. The lower meter shows you the progress in the creation of your movie. When you're ready, click Start.

Chapter 5: Quick DVD 50 By choosing the Quick DVD option, yo u'll have a "wizard" that will walk you through each step in order to capture and create your movie. Just follow the instructions in each st ep. The wizard is designed to guide you throughout the entire process.
Chapter 5: Quick DVD 51 5.1 Quick DVD Steps The Quick DVD wizard gu ides you through the following steps. You can start the Quick DVD wizar d at any time by selecting File > Quick DVD. 1. Choose t he driv e to whi ch your DV D will b e saved . You can choose either a DVD wr iteable (or rewriteab le) drive, or your hard drive.
Chapter 5: Quick DVD 52 - Capture one video to DVD : Enter a title for your movie. Op tionally, you can also enter the date, which wil l appear below the title. Yo u can also choos e a menu design . From the pull-dow n, se lect the cate gory you wish to view.

Chapter 6: Menus 56 The menus are located at the top of the program desktop. The menus include : File, Edit, Vie w, Options, Pla y, Extras, and Help . This chapter also in cludes info rmation on keyboard shortcuts.
Chapter 6: Menus 57 6.1 File The following commands ar e available under the File menu: New Project – Takes you to the Edit module (if you are not already there), where you can create a new video clip. Open Project – Lets you open a previou sly saved project.
Chapter 6: Menus 58 6.2 Edit The following commands ar e available under the Ed it menu: Undo – Reverses the last command. Redo – Reverses the last Undo command. Cut – Removes the se lected componen t and stores it in memory. Copy – Places a copy of the s elected compo nent in memory.

Chapter 7: How Tos 69 7.1 Capture Video Step 1. Connect your ca mera to the computer and turn the power on. Launch the program. From the welcome wizard , select "Capture, create, or e dit videos." From t he next screen, sele ct "Capture From Dev ice.

Chapter 7: How Tos 71 7.3 Create New Album In order to add content to the St oryboard/Timeline, you need to first create an albu m. Albums consis t of shortcuts that link to th e picture, music, and video files stored on your computer. There are a few sample albums included in the program.
Chapter 7: How Tos 72 7.4 Add Content to Storyboard The Storyboard is where you add content to piec e together your movie. The Storyboard consists of several squares. The larger squares are for ST ILL IMAGES and VIDEOS . The smaller squares are for TRANSITIONS.
