8 Front Panel Power Button T o activate the device, press thi s Po wer button for 2 seconds after connecting the device to an appropriate power outlet with the provided power cord. T o power off , press the button for two se cond s until P ower LED starts to blink.
9 Rear Panel Reset to Default Button Press and hold the R eset Default Button fo r 4 seconds to re set all configurations to factory default setti ngs. Note: 1. All configurations that are done by users will be removed from th e device. 2. The device also supports restoring fact ory default settings by software.
10 Installa tion Guide Hardware Inst allation Install a Hard Disk Drive for the Device 1. Lie the device down as the fo llowi ng picture. Please make sure that the device is oriented correctly . 2. Unscrew the screws on both the to p and botto m side of the device.
11 4. Please make sure that the HD jumper should be located for Master oper ation mode. Note: The jumper locations di ffer from each HD; for the co rrect Jumper settings, please refer to the instru ction that came with your Hard Di sk. 5. Insert the IDE conn ector i nto the IDE socket on the Hard Dri ve.
12 8. Place the to p cover back on to th e device and screw the cover on. Connect this device to your Local Area Network (LAN) 1. Connect one end of a RJ-45 cabl e to the LAN port on the device.
13 2. Insert the other end to your USB storage or USB printer. Power on the device 1. Connect the incl uded power cord with the power adapter 2. Connect the connector end to the device and the plug to an outlet.
14 Sof tware Inst allation Installing the PNMD This PNMD progra m helps users to get acce ssed to those NAS in your LAN. Please follow the in structions to install t he software. 1. Insert the CD- Rom that came with this produ ct to your CD-Rom drive.

19 How to configure th e TCP/IP network protoc ol Windows 98/Me: 1. Click on Start Settings Control Pa nel Network. 2. Click “T CP/IP (Y our Ethernet Adaptor)” then click the “ Properties ” butto n.
20 3. Click th e “ IP Addre ss ” tab and click on “ Specif y an IP Addr ess ”. 4. Fill in the IP address. State th e subnet mask to be 255.255.255.0. 5. Click OK and OK. Now, the system may ask for your Window s disc, follow the steps then restart your computer .

25 Connecting the device with PNMD 1. Double click t he shortcut on your desktop . The PNMD begi ns scanning NAS in your LAN. The welcome window pops up. Please click “ Next ” to proceed. Note: This window pops u p only when there is no device detected.
26 3. Connect the LAN port to your switch or IP sharing router . T he PNMD s canning the device again. 4. After scanning, the me nu shows the NA S in your LAN.
27 5. The window shows the connectio n status of the NA S in your LA N. Y ou may cl ick on each NAS to get det ailed information of each NAS . Select the NAS t hat you are going to connect to and click the button. Note: The device cannot detect your hard drive if your hard drive is not formatted a s E X T 3 f o r m a t .
28 7. After successful IP address setting, the PNMD r escans NAS in your LAN automatically . 8. Select your NAS. Y ou may: Click the button to access to folders i n the NAS or Click the button. Fill in the u sername and password and click OK to open the GUI interface.

S t arting the Graphic User Interface (GUI) The Graphic User Interface (GUI) is the ma nag ement interface of this device. Mos t parameters and settings are configured over the GUI.

36 Disk The Disk page allows users to: 1. Change the properties of folders. 2. Fo rmat the hard disk connected to the device with ID E connector . T o open the Disk page, click the “Disk” on the c.
37 The folder configur ation page show s up. This p age allows users to: Change Folder Name/ F older Description. Add or remove authorized users or groups for this folder . Chan ge folder-accessing authority level for users an d groups. To change the folder name/ folder description 1.
38 2. Fill in the new name or new description for the folder and cl ick “ Appl y ”. Note: Folder Name (0~15 char acters): The name for the folder . Description (0~48 char acters): A note for the folder . Both folder name and description are alphanumeric.
39 2. Configure the access-permission rules by groups and users: Note: Before starting, you have to click “ Current Access Permissi on for all users ” in the “ Please set us er’s lim it for th is fold er ”. By Group: Mark the checkbo x to select an authorized group .
40 Step2. Click “ Current Access Permission for all users” to allow conf iguration by groups or users. Step3. Specify the users that have different authorities. (E x, Click “ Read & Write ” for “ Fion ” and Click “ Read-Only ” for “ Eric ”).

42 Disk- HD Configuration T o format your hard disk in EXT3 format: 1. Mark the “ Swap enable ” check box or leave it blank. The Swap function allow s the device to tr ansform the HD space as virtual memory while t here is not sufficient virtu al memory for pe rforming efficient oper ation.
43 3. After confirmation for HD formatti ng, the system starts formatting the hard disk. It may take several minutes according to the storage size of your hard disk.
44 Network The Network page allows users to: 1. Configu re general device information 2. Configure the network setting for the device. T o open the Netw ork page, click the Network on the configur ation categories list. Host- Host Name Setting Host Name (1~15 char acters): Define the user-def ined device na me.
45 To Configure the IP Addresses for the Device The IP Address Setting contai ns parameters of the device network setting. T o modify , fill in each bl anks and click “ A pply ” to execute.
46 System The System page allows users to: 1. Configuring Superuser name and password. 2. Synchronize system time 3. Add, delete and configure a user 4. Add, delete and configure a group T o open the System page, click the System on the configuration categories list.
47 Time- System Time Setting The Time page provides time sync hronizing function. Y ou can synchronize the time by applying the ti me on your computer to the device or by con necting to a time server .
48 User- User Configuration The User page allows users to: Add users Delete users Modify user properties To Configure a User 1. Move the cursor onto the icon of the user that you are going t o configure. 2. Y ou can change the user’s properties by modifying the settings on each item.
49 3. T o change the user name, click the “ Change Name button ”. T h e c h a n g e username page shows up. Fill in t he new user name in the “ New User Name ” box. Cli ck “ Apply ” to ex ecute. To Add a New User 1. Click th e “ Add ” button on the user li st 2.
50 3. Click “ apply ” to add the new user . To delete a user 1. Select the user that you are going to remove from the device. Mark th e check box of the user .
51 Group- Group Configuration The Group page allows users to: Add groups Delete groups Modify group properti es To add a new group 1. Click “ Ad d ” button. 2. Configure the properties for this group. G r o u p N a m e (0~15 characters) Enter a group name as the group ID .
52 3. Click “ Apply ” to add the new group, click ” Undo ” to reload previous configuration and click “ Back ” to return to group list. To delete a group 1. Mark the check box of the grou p that you are going to delete. 2. Click “ Delete ” to remove the group or click “ Back ” to return to group list.
53 To configure a group 1. Click the icon of the group to configure. 2. Modify the properties for the group . Click “ Apply ” to execute the modification, click ‘ Undo ” to reload previous configuration or click “ Back ” to return to group list.
54 Option The Option page allows users to: 1. Configure FTP settings. 2. Ensure the device security by IP and MAC filter . 3. Download files with this device. T o open the Option page, click Option on the configuration categories list FTP- FTP Configuration The device embeds a FTP server that allows users to acces s this device by FTP client.
55 Security IP- IP Filter Setting The Security IP function provides access ma nagement by IP address filtering. T here are three modes for the IP filter . 1. Disable: Disable the IP Fi ler function. All IP add resses are allowed to access the device. 2.
56 Security MAC- MAC Filter Setting The Security MAC function provid es acce ss management b y MAC address filtering. There are three modes for the MAC filter . 1. Disable: Disable the MAC Filer function. All MAC addresses are allowed to access the device.
57 File Download- File Download Configuration The File Down load page allows users to download files with thi s device. Note: Before using this f unction, you should load th e “ ntx_libra.tgz ” first. T o get information f or installing t he “ ntx_libra.
58 Maintenance The Maintenance page all ows users to: 1. Backup/ download t he configur ation status of t he device. 2. Select Code Page for the device. 3. Upgrade the device firm ware. 4. Re start the system 5. Re set factory default. 6. Apply UP&P and Printer serv er function to the devi ce.

61 W eb Server Web Server Administration WEB The Administr ation port is the port for accessing the W eb-based management interface. T o modify the Administrati on Port, enter a port number from 1 to 65 535 then click Apply to save your configuration.
62 USB Detail The Detail page shows the in formatio n of the connected USB devices: USB Class: The USB device type. Manufacturer: The manufacturer of th e connected USB device Device Name: Name of the conne cted USB device. USB 2.0/ 1.1: The USB standard supported by the connected USB device.

64 2. Open the GUI. Click Disk Disk S etup. 3. Enter a name for the USB storage in the “ Name ” box and click “ Apply ” 4. The device is mounted. The system creates a folder for the USB stor age. 5. T o remove the USB storag e from the devi ce, click Disk Disk Setup in GUI.

68 A ppendix Using EZIP Backup to back up your files This program helps u sers to backup the fil es on you computer to your NAS. Those back-upped files are goin g to be compressed as *.zip format in your NAS. 1. Double click the shortcut on your desktop.
69 3. Click “ PC Folder Select ” button. Browse a folder that you are going to backup and click OK. The folder th at you selected shows on the list. 4. Click the “ Ch ange NAS ” button to select a NAS . Select a NAS in the NA S device drop list.
70 T rouble Shooting 1. How to shut down the device properly? Ans. T o shut down the System properly , pre ss the Power button on the front panel f or two seconds until P ower LED blinks the n go off . 2. The PNMD can’t configure My Network s etting.
