07 3-1 246 Rev . B 4 © 2009 Apple Inc . All rights reserved. 8-Cor e Memor y Eight-core comput ers have eight memory slots, four per proce ssor . Y ou can install 1 GB, 2 GB, or 4 GB DIMMs for a total of up to 3 2 GB of memory . Each processor’ s memor y controller has thr ee memor y channels.

07 3-1 246 Rev . B 6 © 2009 Apple Inc . All rights reserved. 3 Holding tray by latches , lift it out of computer . Place tray DIMM side 4 up on soft, clean cloth. Important: W hen removing or installing DIMM, be careful of nearby heatsink ns , as they can be sharp.

Push both ends of 2 DIMM down until ejectors snap back up into place . Note: If a black sticker covers bar code label on DIMM you are replacing , remove sticker bef ore returning DIMM to Apple .

07 3-1 246 Rev . B 9 © 2009 Apple Inc . All rights reserved. Memor y Diagnostic LEDs Important: The quad- core and 8-core pr ocessor boards include a set of diagnostic memor y LEDs. After re-installing or replacing a DIMM, alwa ys use the LEDs to verify the DIMM is correctly seated.
07 3-1 246 Rev . B 10 © 2009 Apple Inc . All rights reserved. How to T roubleshoot Memor y LEDs F ollow this procedure when tr oubleshooting each DIMM identied by a red LED: Remove and re seat DIMM. 1. Restart computer . I f associated LED is no longer illuminated , issue is re solved.
