iBook G4 Memory Card - 2 4. Close the computer , tur n it ov er , and locate the batter y latch. Use a coin to turn the batter y latch 1/4 tur n clockwise to unloc k the batter y . Gently remov e the batter y . (Figure 1) Removing the battery will prevent you from accidentally turning on the computer.
iBook G4 Memory Card - 3 8. Release the ke yboard b y pulling down on the k eyboard release tabs (located to the left of the F1 and F12 ke ys) (Figure 3) , then lift the top por tion of the k eyboard up slightly , and tow ard the displa y . Figure 3 9.
iBook G4 Memory Card - 4 10. T ouch a metal surface on the inside of the computer to discharge an y static electricity , as shown. (Figure 5) Important: To avoid electrostatic discharge damage, always ground yourself by touching the computer’s framework before you touch any parts or install any components inside the computer.
iBook G4 Memory Card - 5 3. If an AirP or t Extreme Card is not installed, unlatch the flexib le wire holder to release the AirP or t antenna cable. 4. Remov e the four scre ws that secure the RAM shield. (Figure 7) Figure 7 5. Lift the RAM shield out of the computer .
iBook G4 Memory Card - 6 7. Locate the installed memor y card and brac kets that secure the card on both sides . (Figure 9) 8. Carefully spread the brac kets apar t until the card releases on each side. Pull the card up and out of the memor y slot. Figure 9 Installing the Replacement Memory Card 1.
iBook G4 Memory Card - 7 2. Gently push the top of the card down until the brac kets snap onto both sides of the memor y card to lock it into place . iBook G4 Memory Card - 8 7. If you do not ha ve an AirP or t Extreme Card, flip down the wire holder ov er the AirP or t antenna cable and secure it b y inser ting the prongs of the wire holder into the small slots in the RAM shield. (Figure 13) Figure 13 8.
iBook G4 Memory Card - 9 Closing the Computer 1. Flip the ke yboard back tow ard the ke yboard opening in the case. Hold the keyboard at a 45-degree angle above the keyboard opening, and insert the tabs on the bottom edge of the keyboard into the slot under the edge of the opening.
iBook G4 Memory Card - 10 5. Close the displa y and tur n the iBook ov er . 6. Replace the batter y into the battery compar tment. Hold the batter y flush and use a coin to tur n the latch counterclockwise 1/4 turn to lock the battery into place. (Figure 16) Figure 16 7.
