6 SECTION ONE Evolution 505 Featur es and T echnology This section describes the innovative features and technology of the Evolution 505 SACD/CD Player , and defines CAST and other key terms used in this reference.
7 Revolutionary Kr ell CAST T echnology Current Audio Signal T ransmission, termed CAST , is a revolutionary method of connecting analog audio components for unparalleled sonic performance.
8 In essence, Krell Curr ent Mode maintains the integrity of the signal within the component and CAST preserves the transmitted signal between components. T ogether , CAST and Krell Curr ent Mode technologies unify separate Krell compo- nents into a single global circuit.
9 Definition of T erms The following are definitions of key terms used in this owner’ s reference: Inputs and Outputs Balanced A symmetrical input or output circuit that has equal impedance fr om both input terminals to a common ground r eference point.
10 T echnology Krell Curr ent Mode A proprietary Kr ell circuit topology in which the audio gain stages of a component operate in the current rather than the voltage domain. This unique technology pr o- vides the component with exceptional speed and a wide bandwidth.
11 Unpacking and Placement This section describes the procedur es for safely unpacking and placing your Evolution 505 SACD/CD Player . 12 Placement Before you install an Evolution 505 into your system, please follow the guidelines in this section to select a location for your component. This will facilitate a clean, trouble-fr ee installation. The Evolution 505 does not requir e a special rack or cabinet for installation.

22 SECTION FOUR Connecting the Evolution 505 to Y our System Using Balanced Connections Krell r ecommends using balanced interconnect cables. Balanced interconnect cables can not only minimize sonic loss, but are also immune to induced noise, especially with installations using long cables.
23 Connection Steps Follow these steps to connect the Evolution 505 to your system. 1. Make sure all power sour ces and components are off befor e connecting inputs and outputs. 2. Neatly or ganize the wiring between the Evolution 505 and all system compo- nents.
24 Evolution 505 Operation This section provides information about operating the Evolution 505. See Fr ont Panel /Remote Control Description, on pages 13-21, for mor e Evolution 505 play- back features. Power On Press the back panel power switch (34) labeled “1”.
25 Using the Title Button or Key (13) Use the title button (13) or key to select one of the three disc formats that the Evolution 505 plays: CD (conventional CD), SACD STEREO (two-channel SACD) and SACD MUL TI (multi-channel SACD). The currently selected format is shown in the front panel display (18).
26 Using the Filter Button or Key (17) Four filters make subtle changes to the high frequencies at ultrasonic levels, alter- ing the sonic presentation fr om your loudspeakers. Once a filter setting has been selected, it is held in memory even if the Evolution 505 is turned off and then returned to operational status.
27 Using the Repeat Key (22) Press the r epeat key once to repeat the current track. The fr ont panel display (19) reads REPEA T SINGLE . Press the repeat key twice to r epeat the whole disc. The front panel display reads REPEA T ALL . Press the repeat key a thir d time to cancel this function.
28 W arranty Krell pr oducts hav e a limited warranty . Amplifiers, preamplifiers, preamp/pr ocessors, and receivers carry a limited warranty of five years for parts and labor on cir cuitry . Loudspeakers carry a limited warranty of five years for parts and labor .
29 Krell is not r esponsible for any damage incurred in transit. Krell will file claims for damages as necessary for a product damaged in transit to the factory . Y ou are responsible for filing claims for shipping damages during the r etur n shipment.
