6 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Y ou can select any one of FM1, FM2, and FM3 to listen to an FM station.
7 ENGLISH Storing stations in memory Y ou can use one of the following tw o methods to store broadcasting stations in memor y . • Automatic preset of FM stations: SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memo.
8 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) manually . EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band 1 Select the FM1 band. 2 T une into a station of 88.3 MHz. See page 6 to tune into a station.

10 ENGLISH SCAN MO RPT SCAN Ÿ MO RPT J Lights up when receiving an FM broadcast in stereo . When using this unit in an area other than North or South America: Y ou need to change the AM/FM channel inter vals . See “Changing the AM/FM channel inter vals” on page 25.
11 ENGLISH CD OPERA TIONS Playing a CD 1 Inser t a disc into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws a CD and starts playback automatically . • Inser t the CD with the pr inted f ace facing upside . Note on One-T ouch Operation: When a CD is alr eady in the loading slot, pressing CD/CD-CH turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .

T o go to the next track or the previous track Press ¢ briefly while pla ying a CD , to go ahead to the beginning of the ne xt track.
13 ENGLISH T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Y ou can play bac k all tracks on the CD at random. Each time y ou press B.SKIP RND (Blank Skip/Random) while pla ying a CD , CD random pla y mode tur ns on and off alternatively .
14 ENGLISH T APE OPERA TIONS Listening to a tape 3 2 1 1 Inser t a cassette . The unit turns on and tape play star ts automatically . When one side of the tape reaches its end during play , the other side of the tape automatically starts playing. (A uto Re verse) 2 T ur n on or off the Dolb y B NR* as needed.
15 ENGLISH T o stop play and eject the cassette Press 0 . T ape play stops and the cassette automatically ejects from the cassette compartment. If you change the source , the tape play also stops (without ejecting the cassette this time). • Y ou can also eject the cassette with the unit turned off.
16 ENGLISH During playbac k 1 Specify how man y tunes ahead of or bef ore the current tune the tune you want is located. Each time you set the tune , the number changes up to ±9. When the beginning of the specified tune is located, pla yback star ts automatically .

ENGLISH 23 OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS Changing general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the following settings f or this unit by using the PSM (Pref erred Setting Mode) control. • CLOCK (H/M): Adjusts the b uilt-in clock (see below). • AUX: Selects the name which will be display ed when you press A UX (see page 24).
24 ENGLISH The current setting appears. Selecting the name of the auxiliar y source When shipped from the f actory , the auxiliar ty source name appears as “A UX” on the display . Y ou can change it to “MD” or “TV . ” 1 Press SEL for more than 2 seconds .
ENGLISH 25 Selecting the dimmer mode When you turn on the car head lights, the displa y automatically dims (Auto Dimmer). When shipped from the factory , Auto Dimmer function has been activ ated. If you w ant to cancel this function, follow the procedure belo w and select “OFF .

If you ha ve another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer f or connections. • F or example, if your CD automatic c hanger is one of the KD-MK series, you need a cor d (KS-U15K) for connecting it to this unit.

ENGLISH 31 MAINTENANCE Handling cassettes The cassette deck b uilt in this unit requires v ery little attention, but y ou will be ab le to e xtend the lif e of the cassette deck if y ou follo w the instr uctions below .
32 ENGLISH Handling CDs The CD play er buit in this unit has been designed only to pla y back the CDs bearing the COMPACT DIGITAL AUDIO mark. Other discs cannot be play ed back. How to handle CDs When removing a CD fr om its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the CD out, holding it by the edges.
ENGLISH 33 TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw a ys serious. Check the f ollowing points bef ore calling a service center. Symptoms • CD cannot be pla yed back. • CD sound is sometimes interrupted. • “NO DISC” appears on the display .
34 ENGLISH Symptoms • “RESET 8” appears on the display . • “RESET 1-RESET 7” appears on the displa y . • CD can neither be pla yed back nor ejected. • This unit does not work at all. • The CD changer does not work at all. Remedies Connect this unit and the CD changer correctly and press the reset button of the CD changer .
