4 ENGLISH 1 T ur n on the pow er . 2 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Y ou can select any one of FM1, FM2, and FM3 to listen to an FM station. 3 Star t searching a station. When a station is received, searching stops. T o stop sear ching bef ore a station is received, press the same b utton y ou hav e pressed for searching.
5 ENGLISH Storing stations in memory Y ou can use one of the following tw o methods to store broadcasting stations in memor y . • A utomatic preset of FM stations: SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memory) • Manual preset of both FM and AM stations .
6 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) manually . Example: Stor ing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset n umber 1 of the FM1 band. 1 Select the FM1 band. 2 T une into a station of 88.3 MHz. See page 4 to tune into a station.
7 ENGLISH 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM) y ou want. 2 Select the number (1 – 6) for the preset station you want. T uning into a preset station Y ou can easily tune into a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. If you hav e not stored them yet, see page 5 or 6.
8 ENGLISH Scanning br oadcast stations When you press RPT/SCAN while listening to the r adio , station scanning star ts. Each time a broadcast is tuned in, scanning stops for about 5 seconds (tuned frequency number flashes on the display), and you can check what program is now being broadcast.
9 ENGLISH T APE OPERA TIONS Listening to a tape 1 T ur n on the po wer . 2 Inser t a cassette. When one side of the tape reaches its end during play , the other side of the tape automatically star ts pla ying. (Auto Re v erse) 3 Select the tape direction.
10 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS T urning on/off the loudness function The human ear is less sensitiv e to low and high frequencies at lo w volumes . The loudness function can boost these frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at low volume levels. Each time you press LOUD , the loudness function tur ns on/off alternatively .
11 ENGLISH Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the treble/bass sound and the speaker balance . 1 Select the item y ou want to adjust. Indication T o do: Range BAS Adjust the bass –6 (min.) — +6 (max.) (bass) TRE Adjust the treble –6 (min.) — +6 (max.
12 ENGLISH Storing your own sound adjustments Y ou can adjust the sound modes (BEA T , POP , SOFT: see page 10) to your pref erence and store your o wn adjustments in memory . 1 Call up the sound mode y ou want to adjust. 13 ENGLISH OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS Setting the clock 1 Press and hold the b utton f or more than 2 seconds. “CLOCK H, ” “CLOCK M” or “AREA” appears on the display . 2 Set the hour . 1. Select “CLOCK H” if not sho wn on the displa y . 2. Adjust the hour .
14 ENGLISH How to detach the control panel Bef ore detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power . 1 Unlock the control panel. 2 Lift and pull the control panel out of the unit.
15 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS W e recommend that you use one of the CH-X series with y our unit. If you ha ve another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer f or connections. • F or e xample, if your CD automatic chang er is one of the KD-MK series, you need a cor d (KS- U15K) for connecting it to this unit.
16 ENGLISH T o fast for ward or reverse the track Press and hold ¢ , while pla ying a CD , to f ast forward the tr ack. Press and hold 4 , while pla ying a CD , to re verse the trac k. T o go to the next track or the previous track Press ¢ briefly, while playing a CD , to go ahead to the beginning of the ne xt trac k.
17 ENGLISH Selecting CD playback modes T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Each time you press MO/RND (Mono/Random) while playing a CD, CD random play mode changes as follows: Mode RND Indicator Plays at random RND1 Lights All tracks of the current disc, then the tracks of the next disc, and so on.
18 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE T o extend the lifetime of the unit This unit requires v er y little attention, but y ou will be able to e xtend the life of the unit if y ou f ollow the instructions below . T o clean the heads • Clean the heads after e ver y 10 hours of use using a wet-type head cleaning tape (a v ailable at an audio store).
19 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not always serious. Check the following points before calling a ser vice center . Symptoms • A cassette tape cannot be inserted. • Cassette tapes become hot. • T ape sound is at very low level and sound quality is degraded.
