4 BASIC OPERA TIONS Note: When you use this unit for the first time, set the built-in clock corr ectl y , see page 26. 1 T urn on the pow er . 2 Select the source. T o operate the tuner , see pages 5 – 17. T o operate the CD pla yer , see pages 18 – 22.
5 ENGLISH RADIO BASIC OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Y ou can select any one of FM1, FM2, and FM3 to listen to an FM station.
6 1 Select the FM band number (FM1,FM2 or FM3) you want to store FM stations into. 2 Press and hold both buttons for more than 3 seconds. Local FM stations with the strongest signals are searched and stored automatically in the band number y ou have selected (FM1, FM2 or FM3).
7 ENGLISH Preset number and “MEMO” flashes alternately for a while. Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1,FM2,FM3 and AM) man ually . EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band 1 Select the FM1 band.
8 T uning into a preset station Y ou can easily tune into a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. If you have not stored them yet, see pages 6 and 7. 1 Select the band (FM1,FM2,FM3 or AM) y ou want. 2 Select the number (1 – 6) for the preset station you w ant.
9 ENGLISH What y ou can do with RDS RDS OPERA TIONS RDS (Radio Data System) allows FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular program signals . F or example, the station send their station names , as well as inf or mation about what type of prog ram the y broadcast, such as spor ts or music , etc.
10 Mode 1 (AF:on) Network-T racking is activ ated. Switches to another station, within the same network, broadcasting the same programme when the receiving signals from the current station become weak. Mode 2 (AF:off) Network-T racking is deactiv ated.
11 ENGLISH Using Standby Reception Standby Reception allo ws the unit to s witch temporarily to a programme of y our f av orite programme (PTY : Progr amme T ype) and T raffic Announcement (T A) from the current source (another FM station, CD , and other connected components).
12 Selecting Y our Favorite Programme for PTY Standby Reception Y ou can select your f a v orite programme f or PTY Standby Reception to store in memory . When shipped from the f actor y , “NEWS” is stored as the prog ramme type f or PTY Standb y Reception.
13 ENGLISH T o store your favorite pr ogramme types 1 Press and hold the button f or more than 2 seconds to call up the Pref erred Setting Mode (PSM: see page 27). 2 Select “PTY SEARCH” if not shown on the displa y . 3 Select one of twenty-f our PTY codes.
14 T o search your favorite pr ogramme type PTY 1 Press and hold the b utton f or more than 1 second while listening to an FM station. The last selected PTY code and preset number appear . 2 Select one of PTY codes stored in the preset number b uttons (1 to 6).
15 ENGLISH Other con v enient RDS functions and adjustments Automatic selection of the station when using the number buttons Usually when you press the n umber button, the preset station is tuned in. Howe v er , when the preset station is an RDS station, something diff erent will happen.
16 Automatic clock adjustment When shipped from the f actor y , the cloc k built in this unit is set to be readjust automatically using the CT (Clock Time) data in the RDS signal. If you do not w ant to use automatic cloc k adjustment, follo w the procedure below .

19 ENGLISH T o fast forward or reverse the track Press and hold ¢ , while pla ying a CD , to fast f orw ard the trac k. Press and hold 4 , while pla ying a CD , to re verse the tr ack. T o go to the next track or the previous track Press ¢ briefly, while playing a CD , to go ahead to the beginning of the ne xt trac k.
20 Selecting CD playback modes T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Y ou can play back all tr acks on the CD at random. Each time you press MO/RND (Mono/Random) while playing a CD, CD random pla y mode turns on and off alter nately .
21 ENGLISH Y ou can prohibit CD ejection and can loc k a CD in the loading slot. While pressing CD , press and hold for more than 2 seconds . “NO EJECT” flashes on the displa y for about 5 seconds , and the CD is loc ked and cannot be ejected.
22 Playing the CD T ext In a CD T e xt, some inf ormation about the disc (its disc title, performer and trac k title) is recorded. Y ou can show these disc information on the display .
23 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Selecting pr eset sound modes Y ou can select a preset sound adjustment suitable to the music genre: Each time you press SOUND , the sound control mode (SCM) changes as f ollows.

30 Contr olling the volume automatically (Audio Cruise Mode) Y ou can select the proper cr uise mode for y our car . This unit change the v olume le vel automatically (at 3 possib le le vels) based on the driving speed of your car b y detecting the alternator’ s generating frequency (A udio Cruise).
31 ENGLISH T o adjust the volume increase rate If you find A udio Cruise increases (or decreases) the v olume either too much or too little as the driving speed changes. Y ou can adjust the increase rate by changing the boost le v el. T o change it, follow the procedure belo w .
32 T ur ning on or of f the key-touch tone Y ou can deactivate the key-touch tone if y ou do not w ant to make it beep when y ou press a button. When shipped from the f actor y , the key-touch tone is activ ated. • ON: Activ ates the ke y-touch tone.
33 ENGLISH Adjusting the contrast level Y ou can adjust the display contrast lev el (among 1 to 10). When shipped from the f actory , the displa y contrast lev el is at lev el 5. 1. Press and hold SEL (Select) f or more than 2 seconds so that “PSM” appears on the lo wer par t of the display .
34 Assigning names to the sources Y ou can assign a name to a CD and the exter nal component connected to the LINE IN plugs. After assigned a name, it will appear on the displa y when y ou select it.

37 ENGLISH How to detach the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power . 1 Unlock the control panel. 2 Pull the control panel out of the unit.
38 REMOTE OPERA TIONS Bef ore using the remote controller : • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not e xpose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).

44 MAINTENANCE Handling CDs This unit has been designed only to reproduce the CDs bearing the and marks. Other discs cannot be pla yed bac k. How to handle CDs When removing a CD from its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the CD out, holding it b y the edges.
