– 6 – Getting Started Supplied Accessories Make sure that you ha ve all the follo wing items. The number in the parentheses indicates the quantity of the pieces supplied. • AM loop antenna (1) • FM antenna (1) • Remote control (1) • Batteries (2) If anything is missing, consult your dealer immediately .
– 7 – 1 If cords are co vered with insulation, twist the core of the cord at the end of each cord, then remo ve the insulation. 2 Connect the AM loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminals as illustrated. 3 T urn the AM loop antenna until you ha ve the best reception.
– 8 – CD OPTICAL DIGIT AL OUTPUT Connecting Other Equipment Y ou can connect both analog and digital equipment. • DO NOT connect any equipment while the power is on.
– 9 – Common Operations T urning On or Off the Power T o turn on the unit, press (or ST ANDBY/ON on the remote control) so that the lamp on the button goes of f. T o turn off the unit (on standby), press (or ST ANDBY/ON on the remote control) again so that the lamp on the b utton lights up.
– 10 – Selecting the Sources T o listen to the FM/AM broadcasts, press FM/AM. (See page 12.) T o play back discs, press CD 3¥8 . (See pages 13 – 19.) T o play back tapes, press T APE 2 3 . (See page 20.) T o select the external equipment as the sour ce, press A UX.
– 11 – Surround modes* D ANCE : Increases resonance and bass. HALL : Adds depth and brilliance to the sound. ST ADIUM : Adds clarity and spreads the sound, like in an outdoor stadium. SEA (Sound Effect Amplifier) modes R OCK : Boosts lo w and high frequency .
– 12 – Listening to FM and AM Broadcasts T uning in to a Station 1 Press FM/AM. The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the previously recei ved station (either FM or AM). • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM.
– 13 – This unit has been designed to play back the follo wing discs: • CD (Audio CD) • CD-R (CD-Recordable) • CD-R W (CD-ReWritable) • MP3 disc (MP3 files recorded on a CD-R or CD-R W) When playing a CD-R or CD-RW User-edited CD-Rs (CD-Recordable) and CD-R Ws (CD-ReWritable) can be played back only if they are already “f inalized.
– 14 – How are MP3 files recorded and played back? MP3 “tracks (files)” can be recorded in “group”—folders or directories, in PC terminology . During recording, the tracks and groups can be arranged similarly to the tracks and folders/directories of computer data.
– 15 – Loading Discs On the unit ONL Y : 1 Press 0 f or the disc tray (CD1, CD2, or CD3) you want to load a disc onto. The unit automatically turns on and the disc tray comes out. 2 Place a disc correctly on the cir cle of the disc tray , with its label side up.
– 16 – Basic Disc Operations While playing a disc, you can do the follo wing operations. T o exchange discs during playback of another Press 0 corresponding to a disc, not playing or selected currently , to eject and exchange the disc.
– 17 – 4 Select a track from the selected disc in the abov e step. On the unit: Tu r n 4 / ¢ to select the track number , then pr ess SET/DISPLA Y . On the remote contr ol: Press the number b uttons. • For ho w to use the number buttons, see “T o go to another track directly using the number buttons” on page 16.
– 18 – Playing at Random—Random Play The tracks of the currently selected disc will be played at random. • T o use Repeat Play (see page 19) for Random Play , press REPEA T after starting Random Play . Only REPEA T 1 and REPEA T ALL can be selected for Random Play .
– 19 – Prohibiting Disc Ejection—T ray Lock Y ou can prohibit disc ejection from the unit and lock discs. • This operation is possible only when the source is the CD player . On the unit ONL Y : T o prohibit disc ejection, press 0 for any disc tray while holding down 7 .
– 20 – Y ou can play back type I tapes without changing any settings. Playing Back a T ape 1 Press 0 EJECT f or the cassette deck. 2 Insert a cassette with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Close the cassette holder gently . 4 Press T APE 2 3 .
– 21 – Recording Recording on a T ape 1 Press 0 EJECT and insert a r ecordable cassette with the exposed part of the tape down. 2 Close the cassette holder gently . • If you want to record on both sides of a tape, see “T o record on both sides—Re verse Mode.
– 22 – Synchronized Recording By using Synchronized Recording methods, you can start and stop both disc play and tape recording at the same time. Synchronized Recording consists of the follo wing:.
– 23 – T rac ks to be recorded on the re verse side (SIDE-B) appear . SET / DISPLA Y REVERSE MODE CD REC ST ART 7 Auto Edit Recording (only for audio CDs) Using Auto Edit Recording, you can record the tracks on a CD onto both sides of the tape.
– 24 – Using the T imers There are three timers av ailable—D AIL Y (Daily T imer), REC (Recording T imer), and SLEEP (Sleep T imer). Y ou can set the timers w hether the unit is on or of f; howe ver , if Ecology Mode is activ ated, you cannot set the timers while the unit is of f.
– 25 – 4 Set the off-time y ou want the unit to turn off (on standby) at. 1) Tu r n 4 / ¢ to set the hour , then press SET/DISPLA Y . “SET” appears for 1 second. 2) Tu r n 4 / ¢ to set the minute, then press SET/DISPLA Y . “SET” appears for 1 second, then the unit enters source selecting mode.
– 26 – 4 Set the on-time y ou want the unit to turn on at. 1) Tu r n 4 / ¢ to set the hour , then press SET/DISPLA Y . “SET” appears for 1 second. 2) Tu r n 4 / ¢ to set the minute, then press SET/DISPLA Y . “SET” appears for 1 second, then the unit enters off-time setting mode.
– 27 – SLEEP 10 SLEEP 60 SLEEP 30 SLEEP 20 Canceled SLEEP 120 SLEEP 90 T o turn on or off Recording Timer after its setting is done 1 Press CLOCK/TIMER r epeatedly until “REC” appears on the display . The REC (Recording T imer) indicator starts flashing on the display and the (Timer) indicator remains lit.
– 28 – Maintenance T o get the best perfor mance of the unit, keep your discs, tapes, and mechanism clean. Handling cassette tapes • If the tape is loose in its cassette, take up the slack by inserting a pencil in one of the reels and rotating. • If the tape is loose, it may get stretched, cut, or caught in the cassette.
– 29 – If you are having a problem with your unit, check this list for a possible solution before calling for service. If you cannot solve the problem from the hints gi ven here, or the unit has been ph ysically damaged, call a qualified person, su ch as your dealer , for service.
